These are not the best rawhide bones we have ever purchased for our dog, but they are a tremendous value. Rawhide bones are expensive, and buying in bulk is the way to go. Our dog is a chewer, and regularly destroys most toys we put in front of him. He seems to feel like any toy we bring back is a challenge to his destructive talents.

The large bones are the way to go. I cannot speak to the smaller variety, but the 8-9 are well sized, uniform, and last him quite awhile. Somehow he has figured out how to dislodge teach knot on the end, so it sort of becomes four chew toys. Each end knot, the main body, and then a little strip at the end that reminds you of a rawhide square.

I'm not sure if it's a flaw in these particular rawhide bones, or our dog's proclivities, but somehow he has figured out a way to hold the bones between his paws for manipulating them and his paws end up getting knotted with rawhide sediment. I wish this didn't happen. As someone else pointed out, I wish they didn't feel the need to put a stupid tag on each bone. Oh well. I think they are thinking about the resale crowd, so you can't fault them.

Your dog will be happy with their never-ending supply of rawhide. Ours have lasted for months.

If you're looking for quantity, these bones are a good value. However, while they are technically 4-5 inches long, the majority are closer to 4 inches, and that's extreme tip to tip. They are more like two knots. The bones in the picture are definitely deceiving and are obviously the larger size. I also don't like that each bone has it's own label that needs to be removed -excess packaging and waste. Having said that, the bones are high quality -no mess. My border collie gets about 20 minutes of chewing pleasure from each bone.

I bought the first bag of these at my vet's office. He's not a big treat fan so I was intrigued with anything he would reccommend. The man actually sugggested I give my dog an ice cube as a treat. I don't know about your dog, but an ice cube doesn't even appear on my dog's radar scope as a treat. I have a dachshund (pray for me), so he isn't a huge dog...yet. I cut the treats up into four pieces to get more mileage out of them. I would've given them 5 stars, but they stink. I guess the dog wouldn't agree, but my nose tells me differently. He sure likes them, stinky or not, so I'll be buying them again.

We have a 10 lb female Bichon/Poodle. We have a lot of different toys for her and this is not her favorite. The toy is pretty tiny compared to other small toys that she has. She rarely uses this. I am not sure if it is too tiny or because it is too hard. The toy seems real hard. I thought it would be a lot softer since these are tiny dogs. She prefers playing with other bigger Nylabone dog chews that are 3 times the size of these. We also have a 100 lb + rottweiler and he doesn't even bother with these. He usually destroys everything he puts in his mouth but this certain chew toy is still intact. Maybe this will work with even tinier dogs but they do seem a little too hard for them to chew comfortably.

I bought this bone for my 10 lb. Chihuahua. It is a nice small size for her to carry around. My two cats are also enjoying this bone. They like to slap it around the floor and chew on it as well. Read the labels of the cheap canned dog foods, and what you see might turn your stomach. Long ago we decided to feed our girls the best of available dog foods to prolong their lives, and keep them healthy and happy. For the most part I don't begrudge them the extra expense entailed. They don't have to eat those scrap heap items like necks, feet, undeveloped eggs, bones, heads, and intestines (and a small amount of feathers in the case of chicken) euphemistically called "animal byproducts." I read ingredient lists carefully so nobody can pull the wool over my eyes.

The label on the can of Artemis lamb looks like something found on people food, a pastel yellow background with a graphic of fresh foods like: tomato, lamb chops, carrots, greens, peas, fish and POTATOES. Below the attractive picture is the caption " home cook meal with natural broth." Below that ungrammatical caption and the all caps LAMB are the words "Made in U.S.A.", reassuring words indeed.

The can opens easily with its pop off lid. Though the Artemis is made with broth it's not runny or mushy, but firm in the can. Bits of veggies peak out from a food that looks almost good enough to eat and has a pleasant, mild smell. Our three dogs took to the canned lamb immediately and ate it with gusto. Since the canned food is so prohibitively expensive we give each of the girls a tablespoonful of it to add some interest to their plate of dry Artemis. This works out well for everyone because I like them to have mostly dry kibble for dental health and the added ingredients in the dry formula. Using this procedure a 13 oz can lasts us about three days.

First let me say I have a monster of a dog, 175 lb. malamute pup. The thing is, he is not a big chewer. The knotted 8" bones from Walmart (they are 3 for $9 or so but I hate shopping there so I decided to try these) last him about 4 days each. So anyway, I decided to give these a shot because I figured 13 for $16 isn't bad. But man did it turn out to be a crappy deal! They mostly measure 9" and are not as thick around as they seem in the image. In fact, some are rather thin, including one that was half the thickness of most of the others. I gave him an average size one and he ate 1/2 of it over a 20 minute period, and that was not straight chewing, he'd get up, do something else, come back and chew, do something else, you get the point.. The "beef" is just dye, you can see the whitish rawhide color once the dog starts chewing it. I have not seen any staining on the carpet yet so at least that's good. It also crumbles so there are tiny pieces all over the carpet, and he's able to "peel" off really thin pieces and leaves those all over the carpet. I will not buy these again.

If you have a small dog, this may be fine. If you have a medium-to-large, large, or giant dog, these won't last. Mine is not a heavy chewer (in fact I've had collies that chewed more) and he went through this like it's nothing. One rawhide roll should last more than 30 minutes! When you're giving two a day it really adds up. It gets 2 stars because he actually ate it sometimes I buy him foods he won't touch.

My dogs go absolutely bonkers when I go to get into the bag of these. I feel good knowing they are 100% natural too. They break in half easily so you don't have to give it to them all at once. I've been trying to find chicken jerky dog treats not made in China and these are the closest I've been able to find to this point (but I've found some made in Maine that look possible I haven't tried them yet but intend to). These are US made, but not like what comes from China. They are hard and brittle and formed in some fashion into strips/bars. One of our dogs accepts them OK (not her favorite, but will take them), the other just turns his head away and only eats them when he realizes it's all there's going to be.

But my last shipment from Amazon is going to be my last. I ordered several bags and they arrived with the pieces mostly in small shards. Don't know if Amazon shipped them in that condition or the shipper managed to mangle them en route (the box was not mangled in any way but it could have been dropped). But given the fact they're not ideal anyway, I'm not ordering any more.

Not my favorite and not really recommended. Going to keep looking. The Blue Buffalo chicken treats (Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken Dog Jerky Treats) are good, but outrageously expensive ($10 for a 3.2 oz bag!) and mostly very small pieces, so after one bag, no more.

Years ago this bone was recommended to me by the owner of a small pet store. I have a dane/lab mix, Gumbo. He literally splintered every bone i gave him. The owner recommended this bone and it has been just wonderful. Gumbo loves them and tho he can eventually chew the knuckles off, he has never been able to splinter this one.
