Loved the fact that my king Charles cavalier spaniel can now firmly hold her own elk horn and chew and play with it without having me hold it. She has learned how to position it in her bed or on her blanket as to where she can get fully to the the marrow or chew it with her back teeth. Best money i have spent on a toy..

Picked this up for our new German Shepherd puppy. Seems to be one of her favorite chew toys. The product holds the antler well so she can chew on it but she can't pull it out. Quality seems good, The Rubber body seems solid but is made in China, The Elk antler says it is a Product of the USA. Would recommend this product. Hope that helps.

My little West Highland is such a princess. With this attitude comes one finicky eater. She refuses to eat most kibble, and I have tried many, many brands. But, since I've discovered Etta's Liver Sprinkles, my pup has become a champion of almost anything that's in her bowl. With only a few shakes of the bottle, what was once so unappealing to my dog, Bugee, is now by all appearances, YUMMY. I use just three (3) shakes of the liver sprinkles on top of her kibble, and I have one happy pup who can't wait to get to her food.

My vet sells these and the dogs like them but there are too many bad ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and BHA to justify feeding these to my fur buddies. Why on earth use corn syrup for dogs when molasses could be used instead and has more nutrients. This is doggy junk food. No thanks.

I trade off foods or mix them for my dogs so they get a nice variety, to prevent boredom, and to better insure my dogs are getting good food/nutrition so I also buy Instinct Chicken, Orijen Red Meat, Evo Red Meat, and several others. Will try Ziwi Peak at some point -it is dried and expensive, but the ingredients can't be beat. I prefer US-sourced food and toys and products for my dogs -and I DO NOT BUY FROM THE MANUFACTURERS THAT MADE AND SOLD POISONED DOG FOOD AND TREATS WITHIN THE LAST 10 YEARS!! BE good to your dogs and be sure you check out the food / toy manufacturer on FDA.GOV and reputable dog-centered food sites.

Turkey & Duck flavor a hit with my dogs. Instict is in the top 10 dog food brands on the market -it rates around #6 for healthiest brand and this manufacturer DID NOT make and sell poisoned dog food.

We adopted a dog from the humane society and had tried about 6 different high quality dog foods before we tried this one, this is the first one that we really noticed a big difference! Her coat came back and her itching has reduced noticeably. She's gaining weight and loving it, as is our other (non-allergic) dog. So glad we tried this dog food, I know it won't work for every dog's allergies as everyone's are different, but this one is definitely worth trying!

I have a 78lb lab that loves antler chews and couldn't pass up this deal compared to the big box store prices. But I wasn't impressed by the size when I received it.. It measured only about 5 1/2 inches and was only a 1/3 of a split antler vs the description noting 6 inches long and the picture depicting is a 1/2 antler split.. Because of this I can't give 4 or 5 stars. But the Quality is great, has lasted a long time, the antler seems fresh and my pup loves it. Which are the important things. Would I recommend it to others? Yes, but I would set proper expectations because the item isn't quite as described in the ad.

First, my dog. He is a pointer/lab mix that weighs about 55lbs and he is a chewer. I would say he tends to chew aggressively, but he doesn't have great jaw strength. He's had a rubber bone for months now and it shows few signs of falling apart. I've given him bones from the butcher shop and he enjoys them but he was never able to crack the bone.

Second, antler chew toys. I have noticed the same difference in antler density that Chasing Our Tails claims to exist. Moose seem to be the most dense followed by deer then elk. Austin first cleans the marrow out of the antler if it's split. He cannot crack the non-split antlers which limits his interest in non-split antlers. The split moose antler I gave him showed virtually no signs of wear after three weeks (minus the marrow). next i gave him a split deer antler which he was able to gnaw down to a chocking hazard in about a month. These elk are his favorite. Only once has he crack a piece off the elk split antler.

Third, know your dog. I have read a lot of the negative reviews about these antlers and antler in general as dog treats. The biggest problem with these reviewers is they believed the line about "splinter-proof" natural bone chew toys. Chicken and cow bones can be cracked, or "splintered", into long slender pieces with pointed ends that are dangerous to dogs. It is a lie that antlers will not crack into to long splinters. The truth is most dogs are not strong enough to crack antlers because antlers are of higher density than cow bones. But these antler chews are great... if you know your dog's limits. Aggressive or not, if your dog is a powerful chewer NO bone/antler/horn is a safe product as it posses a chocking hazard if cracked. If you're not sure about your dog, then monitor the pet closely after you give them any bone/antler to determine how long the product will remain safe for your pet.

Fourth, get this chew toy. Dogs like mine, that don't shred their toys, will love, yes love these split antlers. The marrow just falls off the bone in the first few minutes, which he loves. But the calcified outer part of the bone provides residue-free, odor-free chew time for weeks so it save money on chew toys, which I love. Eventually these antlers will become gnawed down to chocking hazards, but I find this takes about a month. Of course if you think your dog is boarder line to power, you should try the moose antler. I know it's pricey but it's you're best shot at getting your money's worth.

Thanks

These Elk Splits are the perfect chew for any dog. They have no discernible odor to humans, yet my dog knew exactly what to do with it. Unlike commercially sold bones, this has no grease to mess up carpets or flooring. It does not splinter, so it is good for small or large dogs. These come not split for larger dogs, but I have found that the split antlers are best for my 20 pound puppy. He got his first split antler when he was only 5 pounds, and knew what to do with it, and loved it. Helped through the teething stage. Bought one for every room, and when he went after something, or me, to chew on, I would distract him with his antler. It worked! These are supposedly humanely "found" as deer and elk shed their antlers every year. I hope this is true, as you can't believe everything you read on the internet, but it does make sense! As they can make money doing nothing but finding cutting, and bagging these to sell. They aren't cheap, but they do last a long time. After the marrow has been chewed out, the antler can still be gnawed on, and will harmlessly flake off, and like bone, can be eaten. When the antler gets smaller, it should be replaced with a new one, as it could be swallowed whole in a smaller size. These have lasted for weeks! So the expense in my mind is well worth it. They do sell it by the weight of the dog, but use your common sense. A smaller one is not going to be any softer, than a larger one. The larger one will last longer than a smaller one, as long as it is not so large that the dog can't pick it up and carry it around. Hope these are around for a very long time.

My dog is a strong chewer; he can go through an entire rawhide in one sitting. I've switched to antlers and love the durability. Depending on the brand, the antlers can last several weeks. I've tried different sizes, brands and styles (split, whole, slices).

I'm not impressed with Chasing Our Tails Elk Splits Rack Snack. Compared to other similar products, it's smaller and is too easy to chew through. It only lasted a week, compared to 2-3 weeks for other brands.

My favorite is "Newts Chews Antler, Sliced Elk".

Please note each dog has their own "ideal" treat. This antler might be right for your dog, but just didn't work for mine.

My yorkshire is a picky eater. He ate the food the first day as if he loved it. Strangely, he would not eat it afterwards. I wondered if it was the smell. Now i think maybe it did not settle well. Really do not know why. now i have many cans left. I guess i should have tried a few first.

Ever since the pet food recall that happened a few years back I have been super careful which dog foods I buy. I have a 10 year old GSD and now a 5 month old Red Healer pup and both have sensitive stomachs. I've tried other brands of canned dog foods and they seem to enjoy them pretty well, except it really doesn't sit well with their stomachs. So, I happy to be feeding Natural Balance canned food, because here it is larger packages than the local pet store & the price is more what I can afford. I mix half a can in each bowl with some dry dog food and they both love it.

I love the not having to drive across town & carry around heavy cans of dog food. :)

A few years ago my now 19 yr old cat Squeaky stopped eating and hid under the bed. After a few days the vet kept her overnight on an IV, ran tests and unable to find anything wrong with her explained that when cats get ready to die they stop eating and hide. He wanted to keep her another night but I felt so helpless and desperate I took her home instead trying different things to get her to eat. That Sunday I power walked around the track at the gym for an hour praying so hard in between crying and when I left I stopped at a local pet store and found this product. It was high in nutrition and I knew she needed the taurine and calories soon or she would get a liver disease. I didn't think she would eat it but as soon as I got home, I squeezed some out and she lapped it up straight from the tube. A half hour later she was in the kitchen eating a can of cat food.

A few years have passed and although she has since gone deaf, she cries out for her JIT several times per day. She walks to the bedroom, cries out "NOW! NOW" over and over and waits for me to lift her up to her spot where she laps up as much of it as she wants. She did go through a spell for about 2 or 3 weeks a couple of years ago where she wouldn't eat it and we could see all the bones in her body. I feared God was ready to call her up to be Jesus' pillow cat. After a few weeks she decided she wanted it again. I truly believe this product sustains her and keeps her alive. Although she spends most of her time on a heating pad, she still likes to play on occasion and is fairly healthy. My youngest 2 yr old likes to clean up the tube after her and my 4 yr old likes it.

If you are considering this product, I would start with one tube if you haven't tried it yet. Not all cats like it. We've tried to trick our 16 yr old into it and can't get him to eat it. He can't weigh more than 5 lbs dripping wet and needs it badly. He has a hearty appetite for food but can't gain weight, is always freezing and could really benefit from it. He also has been tested for everything with the vets and is otherwise healthy. So not all cats will like it unfortunately. It also makes a difference how you store the tube. We buy 10 at a time and keep them laying down flat until a tube is over half empty. At that time we stand it up to get the product to the opening. We find if we stand it up full, it doesn't mix properly or something and Squeaky won't eat it. 3 of our 5 cats like it though and it's worth a shot if you need vitamins, nutrition and calories for your cat.

NutriCal was recommended by a vet for a week old, abandoned kitten. It stimulated her appetite. Unfortunately we lost the kitten to an infection shortly thereafter. We then decided to give it to one of our 15 year old cats that was losing weight. She HATES it. Then again, she hates anything that isn't cat food from a can or bag. We put it in a syringe and then squeeze it into her mouth. She acts like she has a mouthful of peanut butter. After about a hour we notice an increase in her appetite and activity level. We gave it to her daily for about a month and she started to put on some weight. We got overconfident and stopped the NutriCal only to see the weight drop off again as well as the activity level. Even though she doesn't like it, we are starting to feed it to her again. I look at it like the icky medicines I had to swallow as a kid. It wasn't fun, but it did the job. Putting up with the mess and protests are the least I can do for my friend. Conversely, my other 15 year old cat loves to lick the stuff from the tube (she also likes hairball medicine from the tube, cake, cookies, fritos, table scraps, ice cream, pizza and pasta), but she needs more poundage like she needs another tail! (We don't feed her all those items, but she can steal like a veteran politician!)

Buy NutriCal For Cats Now

My little best friend is almost 15. As a kitten, she swallowed magnets (playing with those darn pics we all post on our fridge. Tell all you know don't do that! Use a photo album or tape instead!) Ever since her little lifesaving surgery, she can only eat certain kibble and only 10 or so of them at a time, and each feeding spaced well enough apart. Any more, and she'll get sick.

Needless to say, she is always begging. She just doesn't understand her situation until it's too late. And then, well it's too late for my carpet. Not to mention that she doesn't feel well afterwards.

She has been healthy as a horse otherwise until a scare a few months back. At the vet visit, she weighed in at a mere 5.5 lbs (runt of the litter, asian persuasion --not starvation by me). While she was deemed utterly healthy (and sweet :) by the vet (albeit, diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia --the probable reason for her 'unwellness moment' (see my Excel Glucosamine Cat Paste review)), I felt as though we could put a bit more weight on her to possibly help with her hips and all-around health... it couldn't hurt, she's so darn kitten-cute-small and wirey --and I'd sleep better at night.

Here's where Nutri-Cal came into play....

I'd spent at least an hour at the local big pet store reading tubes, canisters, you name it. I had to be careful in my final pick as it needed to be easy enough on her tummy. I ended up with 2 choices. I found one of the employees and asked her about the two (one being Nutri-Cal, the other some 'senior supplement). The minute she said that Nutri-Cal was recommended by vets -my decision was made. She also added that anything 'senior-oriented' would not include good-for-you-fatty-type nutrition (if you're looking to add a bit of weight onto a cat). That is, if your needs included weight-gain, one would be better off buying a product (even food) geared towards kittens, not senior cats. Just a tip for anyone else out there in my older-tiny-(or skinny)-kitty situation.

A tube of Nutri-Cal was purchased. It has been a godsend! Sage is so much more content now; she has gained a bit of weight, and I believe she feels better all-around including her hips. She's back to her kitten-at-heart ways. She doesn't sit and beg anymore, she'll actually go play or lay down after licking some of this stuff up! AND, she adores the stuff.... she just loves it!!

I don't just give her some 2 or 3 times a day, she gets this in between almost each feeding (except when she gets fed by her automatic timed feeder while I'm at work). She gets a good 7+ fingertip blobs a day. I've found no side-effects; she has never gotten sick even when she begs enough that I'll give her some 10 minutes or so after her regular food; and she has filled out fabulously. This stuff is a gift from god!! I just squeeze some out onto my finger, blob the stuff onto her plate, and she's a happy camper! I truly feel that this has made an incredible difference in her life... and I don't say that lightly.

I would recommend this stuff to anyone in my situation, or someone with an aging or sick cat who won't eat regular food much (or at all). Anyone who cares about their kitty, or is worried about their kittycat should drop a dime on this stuff. I really cannot push this product enough. The happy life (or even extended time) spent with your best little friend that this product offers is worth more than I can put into words.

I've hesitated writing this review because there's always some corporate suit out there that gets wind of reviews like mine and decides to raise the price. I'll hope not this time around. I spend the time here hoping rather that this review helps you as much as it has both Sage and myself. Peace of mind, and a happy life for my cat.... can I ask for anything more.

On a final note... buying this stuff off amazon is also worth it's weight in gold. I've already picked up 6 more tubes via here. Local (big) pet stores around me charge overly EXCESSIVE prices vs. the cost found here. THIS is the DEAL kittycat owners... look no further.

I am a veterinarian with 7 years experience, and I have 3 Great Danes. I am always looking for safe, effective, fun, and innovative new pet products. I saw the video for this product, and definitely agree that carrying a pocketful of crumbling treats isn't much fun for training/rewards, so decided to give it a try. All 3 of my girls tried to bite the bottle at first (and I think most dogs will), but within a few seconds, all of them figured it out, and were licking away very happily, each taking their turn sitting down for me. I also recently used it to help keep them standing still while my 8 year old daughter gave them baths outside with the hose on a nice warm day....much less mess than doing it in the tub inside! It was also handy when we went for a short hike at a local park a while back, as I am training the 2 younger Danes to wear backpacks (that's a whole other story!). Even if the dogs jump in the river wearing their backpacks and get them soaked, their treats won't get soggy. The only thing I would like to see is using a liquid treat that's maybe a bit healthier for them...the ingredient list on the Lickety Stik looks like a lot of processed stuff. It does have a bit of an odor, too, but I didn't find it that strong or offensive like some of the other people here did. And I think it's the odor that really draws the dogs to come check it out...otherwise, why would they want to just lick a plastic roller ball?

Also, I think it would be nice to have a bottle that is just a little bit larger for the large/giant breeds like mine...but this does work well regardless. Finally, I think it would be great to have a refillable bottle, so there would be less waste...500 licks goes fast when you're training 3 big dogs!

Oh, and yes, I will re-order this, and do recommend it.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program

Since neither of my 2 dogs can write about this new Lickety Stik, I will do my best.

A new idea for treats is always welcomed. We had 3 flavors of Stiks, Bacon, Chicken and Liver. We tried all three on both Sundae and Casey. Sundae licked all three and seemed to like them all. Casey, however, wouldn't try any of the three, just turning his head in apparent disgust (lol). Having had dogs my whole life, you never can tell what a dog will like or dislike. I didn't give this 5 stars, because of some functional reasons, not because Casey didn't even try it. First, the lick ball is exactly like a deodorant ball. As a matter of fact, the container reminds me of an Arrid Rollerball Deodorant bottle exactly. It doesn't move freely by just licking, you have to gently squeeze the bottle for the liquid to be available to the dog. If you squeeze too hard, it drips onto the floor. Other than that, it seems to be enjoyable. It is supposed to be healthy, but I had to use a magnifying glass to read the rather small label.

The video is one of our taste tests. Hope you enjoy it.

Update July/September 2012: Sad to say both my beautiful puppies in this video have passed on. They were both 12 years old.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program UPDATE 10/28/2011

It's been several weeks of using it and there is still a ton of licking left, definitely getting my moneys worth out of this treat.

Another thing that has been nice is the ability to keep this in my pocket without making a mess. So going for a walk with it has been nice (and a great way to keep his attention when there are other not well behaved dogs around).

UPDATE -

Well the puppy dog has spoken... he loves Lickety Stik!

When we first presented it to him he was a bit unsure and tried to bite the stick which was kind of cute but he quickly realized he had to lick it.

Now every time the Lickety Stik comes out as a reward or to teach him something, he just can't wait to lick the bejesus out of it.

Not only does the dog love it and responds really well to it, it's made in the USA!

This is a very unique, clean, easy to use, easy to carry, and fun treat for your dog. I would highly recommend this to most anyone. Way to go PetSafe!

*disclaimer* I was sent this item to review.

Izzy, our mini schnauzer, is very food motivated. Schnauzers have a tendency to get chunky though, so rewarding her with food every time she does a trick is a balancing act between giving her something she likes but not having her snack with treats all day.

At 1 calorie per 10 licks, along with a fun interactive way to give her the treat, the lickety safe is fun and healthy. She had no trouble at all figuring out how to lick the deodorant like ball. This would also be a nice travel treat in the car because it closes up and you don't need to get treat on your fingers to give it to the dog.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My dogs love this. But it's undeniably odd. Basically, it's packaged like those old roller bottles of deodorant. You hold the it in front of your dog's face and they lick the rollerball.

One of my dogs wanted nothing to do with it, but my puppy (who'll lick anything) dove right in. That lured the wary dog into trying it. Now they both love it.

Frankly, though, I suspect they'd prefer food. And I certainly like tossing treats to my dogs for them to catch instead of standing there like a servant holding what looks like a bottle of deodorant as they lick it.

Might be good for dogs on a diet, though. You can treat them with a bit of flavor without so many calories.

this toy is too large for a small dog. i had also purchased the raspberry, and it is quite small and it's a perfect size. as the pictures of the product are the same size, i did not realize there was a problem.

This is our Golden Retriever's favorite pool toy. She fetches it non stop, and then will hang out by the steps in the shallow end and squeezes the berry so that water shoots out both sides. She slaps it underwater with her paws and it sinks a bit since it is hollow, but will pop back up to the surface if she lets it. The green "stem" quickly falls off, but she doesn't care. I just purchased a third one. The original berry is just now starting to degrade after three summer's worths of fun.

I bought this item based on other dog toys I have purchased from Orbee. My 3-year-old lab mix dropped his tennis ball to play with this immediately. Within two hours, he had torn the strawberry to pieces, without any treats inside. The other dog toys from Orbee have withstood his chewing, but he tore the bottom off this one. It's a shame, because it was really cute. It also had an irregular bounce which would have kept him occupied and a little off-balance.

Overall I like Orbee's product line but this item didn't do very well with my dog. Back to tennis balls! They're cheaper and it's more fun to watch him peel them apart.

I'm conflicted on how I feel about this. The dogs LOVED it, and it's really cute, but within a day, it was ruined. They chewed off the green leaves on top within a few hours, but before that, they were carrying it around, chewing it, bouncing it. It'd be great for a dog who isn't as into chewing as my dogs are. Even though they ruined this, I'm thinking of buying another orbee ball. It might be the scent or flavor that made the dogs love it more than most similar toys. Still, I want something without a hole because they got their teeth in too easily and broke it.

We were given this as a gift for our 3-yr old shepherd mix and she loves it. We fill it with rice which keeps her busy for about 20 minutes while she gets every last piece out. She loves picking it up and dropping it against the ground or a table to get things to pop out. Definitely prefers this over her kong I think maybe the material feels better in her mouth, and much less dog hair sticks to it. She now brings it to us and drops it at our feet when she wants a snack.
