For a few years, His Majesty The Mighty Mouser Cat of an Extraordinary Nature (he prefers the use of his full title), has enjoyed Liv-A-Littles chicken treats, and we decided to try HDP product.
HDP Freeze Dried Chicken Breast 4 oz. is a bag of individual chicken tenderloins, pictured accurately on product page, about 9 of them in the bag we received. They are packaged with silica gel packets to absorb moisture. Flavor is as good as Halo product because His Majesty is just as eager for his treat and always asks for more. Since we get a case of Halo Liv-A-Littles at a time, HDP cost is better than half off Halo.
The tenderloins are large pieces, maybe 3 or 4 inches long, which do not break off quite so easily. Freeze dried meat tissue is stringy, and the tenderloin has that long piece of sinew still intact. During production, it appears the tenderloins are processed on a tray with paper liners. Paper remnants are still attached where the chicken was on the tray liner during production. While breaking or cutting, you'll want to remove the sinew and the paper. For a cat, smaller bite-size pieces are needed. Freeze dried meat does not cut so easily, although maybe I'll try a different knife and technique. The shreds can get long and stringy.
We use about one 2oz. container of Halo a month, stored in the jar in the refrigerator. We cut three tenderloins and placed it in the sealed jar which leaves the other 6 right now sealed in the original bag inside a ziploc bag. We will evaluate how well it keeps since the 4 oz. HDP chicken will last longer than a sealed container of Halo.

Shelf life once opened.
Bottom line:
Smaller container size of Halo ensures fresh product, Halo chicken appears to be from the other part of the chicken breast. Since it is already broken to manageable size pieces and crumbles easier, Halo may be better in terms of performance and convenience, but you can't beat the price of HDP chicken if you don't mind some advance preparation.

Amazon contacted me saying this product was as good and cheaper than Halo. I tried it. The chicken comes in whole breasts. They are hard th break apart. They break into strings.There are no directions on the packaging do yu need to refrigerate after opening? Is is just chicken or does it have chemicals too? The smell is very strong and unpleasant. My cats all 4 of them can't get enough of these treats they really love them! I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to treat their pets.
