I've done hours and hours of homework on high quality, grain-free dog foods. From product analysis, kcal analysis, ingredients, customer reviews, professional reviews, company recalls all of it... I have become a mini-expert in the field.

I was pushed into becoming an expert because my yellow Lab kept having seizures and I couldn't figure out the source. I finally learned it was her food, which was the most expensive store bought brand my local Sams Warehouse carries. I thought I was giving her the best, it looked fresh and rich, but it turns out it was just absolutely terrible food. My black Lab also had terrible skin allergies, to the point where I would get a small rash on my skin if he laid next to me on the couch for more than 5 minutes at a time. I had no clue it was because of the food. But it was!

Since having that epiphany and learning so much about dog food, I've always made sure to feed them the highest quality grain free food I can buy. This Taste of the Wild (TOTW) fits the bill very nicely, and they love it. Since switching to a grain free diet, the yellow lab has not had any more seizures in over a year, and the black lab has the silkiest coat you've ever seen and his skin allergies are completely gone.

They are on 2/3rds dry and 1/3rd wet combination. Contrary to what I had previously been raised to believe, a wet diet is not bad for dogs but in fact is superior! I use the combination to save money while providing them the best I can.

Before deciding on TOTW, I had also tried Blue Buffalo, Wellness Core, and Orijen. Briefly: they are all good foods, but my labs were happiest on TOTW and my wallet is also happiest on TOTW. I also believe TOTW has a better formulation for them and their life style (some of the products, like Orijen, are simply too rich for the average household dog, despite being made of the best ingredients available).

Enter TOTW. The dry food is dark and rich, with no sign of crumbling. The kibble is a good average size. The wet food has nice chunks of meat and the right amount of gravy. I use the wet food as a topper to mix the 2/3rd dry and 1/3rd wet together for their meals. I use one whole can of wet per meal with my pack, which is convinient so I don't have to store it in the refrigerator btw, never store canned dog food in the fridge in the original aluminum container!

I still wish I could find a less expensive product with the same quality, but in the mean time, TOTW is the best choice for my pack.

My dog was having a lot of digestive problems with her old food and I started researching online for a good quality one. I started giving her Taste of the Wild around a month ago. I mix her dry food (same brand and flavor)mixed with 2 Tbsp of the wet food and I can tell she loves it! Her bowl movements are now perfect (if you can say that about them), twice a day, formed and easy to pick up.

One important thing to mention is that this food has lower calories than your regular food, so read the label and find out how many cups or cans you need to give your dog... and adjust if necessary!

This is an incredible food, it makes a great snack and can even be a full meal if you throw in a nice bowl of water. Its like being a bear and eating straight from the stream, its that fresh! Don't let the chucks throw you thats just the real flavor of wholesome American Salmon.

*Seriously though I ordered it for a dog shelter wrecked by the tornados, hope it helped!

Our dog just goes crazy for these. We call them fingers in our house, but when he gets one he runs and barks, tries to hide it for later then he finally settles in for a quick chew snack. Highly recommend, but the dog store is more expensive, Amazon is a better deal other than shipping, so buy the case.

I first my dog these treats at my local pet store. I also only feed her Merrick dry dogfood because of the exceptional quality. The food as well as the treats are a little expensive, but worth it. I like giving these treats because they are natural, last as long as a rawhide chew but are made in the USA., they clean her teeth, they don't stink like pigs ears or hooves, and she LOVES them! At the pet store the cost $21 for a 6.5 oz bag, which average about 15 per bag. This price thru amazon is half the price, and they stay fresh so that's not even a concern.

My dogs love these things. They are suppose to be better for them instead of raw hides. We were buying them at the local pet store but the price just kept going up and up. So we got on Amazon and low and behold we could buy a box of 12 of them and save $5 on each bag so we went for it. We knew they wouldn't go to waste.

*Note: the following is a non-professional assessment based upon research papers that have been made available to the public. I am not a credentialed canine nutritionist, nor do I hold affiliation with any competing company in the industry. This is my honest opinion as a concerned pet owner.*

At first glance, Full Moon treats are fantastic. They don't contain any of the usual suspects (artificial flavors, corn, soy etc.), the ingredients are sourced from the good ole' USA, and they are made with human-grade meat. If you're not informed about dog food-grade meats, I suggest a few internet searches be warned, you will be horrified at what you have been feeding your furry friend!

With a reasonable amount of knowledge under my belt about canine nutrition, I felt comfortable giving these treats a try with our two rescue pups. It wasn't until the second purchase from a local store that I started to put two and two together. When our younger pup started throwing up here and there, I wasn't overly concerned at first sometimes he'll swallow some fur from a stuffed animal toy and throw it up (perfectly normal and even desirable natural instinct) and around the same time he threw up in the car. Nasty yellow bile it was, and initially we thought he might be developing car sickness. You can imagine that with these circumstances, our first thought wasn't the new treats we were feeding sparingly.

After purchasing the second bag of chicken jerky from full moon, I started to notice that within 12 hours of eating a piece of Jerky, Nico started throwing up. Uncharacteristically, I hadn't checked out the company before purchasing them, and I hadn't checked Amazon reviews. I wish I had. Jumping on the internet, I tried to find some information about Full Moon. None. This was the first red flag. I then came over to Amazon to research reviews, and lo and behold found two reviews mentioning dogs vomiting and getting sick on these treats. The rest went in the trash, and I put my Google-fu to work.

The ONLY suspect ingredient in these treats is green tea extract. At first I though the vinegar might be the issue, but found plenty of research on the benefits of vinegar for dogs (in moderation), but after trawling through several research papers (links in the comments of this review) I came across a study of the effects of green tea extract, tested on both dogs that were both fasted (empty stomach) and non-fasted (full stomach). In fasted dogs, the following was found:

---------------------------------------------------------

"Recent chronic toxicity studies performed on green tea extracts in fasted dogs have revealed some unique dose-limiting lethal liver, gastrointestinal, and renal toxicities. Key findings included necrosis of hepatic cells, gastrointestinal epithelia and renal tubules, atrophy of reproductive organs, atrophy and necrosis of hematopoietic tissues, and associated hematological changes."

Green tea extract-induced lethal toxicity in fasted but not in nonfasted dogs, Wu KM, Yao J, Boring D. PubMed (2011)

---------------------------------------------------------

Another very similar research paper stated:

---------------------------------------------------------

"All three groups of animals being administered PPE on an empty stomach exhibited gastro-intestinal irritation as evidenced by vomiting, mild diarrhea/loose stool and/or red material in the run occasionally. These symptoms were totally absent when PPE was not administered on an empty stomach."

Exposure and Toxicity of Green Tea Polyphenols in Fasted and Non-Fasted Dogs, I.M. Kapetanovic,a J.A. Crowell,a R. Krishnaraj,b A. Zakharov,b M. Lindeblad,b and A. Lyubimovb PubMed (2009)

---------------------------------------------------------

Now, I'm not a certified canine nutritionist, nor am I a researcher of any kind. I can however, with some certainty, now say that the only correlating factor between the occurrences of vomiting from Nico (each episode of two throwings up two weeks apart) was that all four times he was given one of these Full Moon jerky strips he was vomiting within 12 hours. Whether it was on a empty stomach, I cannot recall, however if these research papers are to be given credibility, we simply do NOT know whether green tea extract is entirely safe for dogs yet.

Because I am NOT an expert in this field, I have awarded this product two stars rather than one there is some merit in the human-grade chicken and lack of artificial products and other fillers. That said, I cannot recommend this product without strong reservations due to the effect that it had on one of our dogs. Poppy, our slightly older rescue pup, showed no external signs of gastrointestinal distress. She grew up on the streets and may have a more developed immunity to toxic foods, an important factor in my mind.

I cannot recommend these treats at this time. If Full Moon wants to be taken seriously in the human-grade, premium treats industry, I think it's high time they step out of the shadows and get their website finished. It's poor form for a company to be in production on a national scale without information that is easily obtained by the public. If they would like to publicly address their customers' concerns about illness induced by their treats, I will gladly offer them space on my website to do so. Until then, this is a product to avoid.

Was pleased to come across this product while at Walmart last night less than 12.00...made in the USA not china... no gmo corn, wheat or soy, no artificial preservatives or flavors, grain and gluten free, human grade ingreds Chicken-(raised caged free on family farms in USA according to package), Brown Rice Syrup, vinegar and green tea extract that's it all good things from what I can tell my dogs have missed their "jerky" type treats since I quit buying them as they all seemed to come from China and were making dogs very ill across the globe. Picked some up and they were a big hit with all my Boxers! So, I give it a big 2 thumbs up and will happily serve these to my dogs unless horror stories start pouring in like they did on the ones either from China or using ingreds from that country. This must be a fairly new product as they have a website address on the package but the site is not up and running yet...? That is the only odd thing to me but the product throws up no red flags to me.

Got these for my 2 year old shiba inu. She has had some bad reactions to treats in the past but she loved these, and she's happy and healthy after eating full moon treats for a few weeks. I'll probably order more. I like the clear ingredients section and the all natural antibiotic free info, especially when so many treats are passing themselves off as "healthy" or "natural." These seem like the real deal.

I gave each of my two dogs one of these bones after I picked them up grocery shopping on Monday evening. By early tuesday morning one of my dogs was already throwing up (first time on my white bedding, of course) and everything after her first bowel movement of the day was pretty much water. She had diarrhea on the carpet in MULTIPLE areas while I was at work, and then two more times during the night. She was very lethargic and unable to keep any food down at all. Meanwhile, my other dog has now gotten horrible diarrhea as well. Wednesday morning I made them some boiled eggs, but the one dog that was already throwing up ended up losing her breakfast a short while later. I gave her white rice with a little bit of chicken stock for dinner that night and she held that down. But sometime during the night, one of the dogs had diarrhea in the house again! Today is Thursday and both dogs are still loose, but (knock on wood)it seems like the vomiting is under control. I called the vet and she said to split an Immodium AD between the two of them and make sure they are drinking plenty of water, which they have been all through this debacle! I will keep my fingers crossed that my carpert will still be clean when I get home. I will never, ever buy another Hartz product again!

My dog really loves these, and I do think (with the help of the occasional brushing) that these help her teeth stay cleaner. She just loves to munch on one and it keeps her busy for a bit, which is more than i can say for some of those wimpy treats that just add sticky gunk to your dogs teeth...

I have a large lab who LOVES to chew and I don't like giving her rawhide, I was so excited I found this!! It's an excellent replacement to rawhide!! It's good for her teeth but the best part is how long it lasts!! She is a powerful chewer and can whip through most chews in no time plus she's a picky chew chewer, so I was SO impressed and excited when I saw that not only did she love this chew, it lasted her a long time, plus it gives her a variety from her bully sticks. Also, much cheaper here on Amazon than in the stores, too.

This product contains propylene glycol and BHA which is poisonous to dogs. Look it up. We threw away a $20.00 bag of pup peroni tonight. Our dog began having seizures after we started a training class with her where they recommended using pup peroni. We used the pup peroni as a training treat as recommend. Not realizing that was the culprit for the seizures, she was placed on seizure medication. We completed the class, we stopped with the pup peronis. We just purchased another pup, and began training with him. Because he was getting the pup peronis, so was the 2 year old dog and she began having seizures again. In researching this, we found there is a link between pup peroni (propylene glycol) and seizures. Poisoning....Buyer beware.

I have heard mixed reviews about how healthy these are for dogs, but as a training treat, I can't beat them. I contacted the company, who says these are made in the U.S, so I try to look at them like junk food not good for you, but okay in small doses. The puppies will do almost anything to get a piece of these, so until I find a healthy alternative, I guess I will keep buying these!

My male Maltese dog had been enjoying the Old Roy's Puppy Biscuits from Walmart. Then I couldn't find them. I was desperate to find a treat that would measure up. I ordered six bags of the peanut butter and crossed my fingers.

They arrived, and my little guy loves them. He gets one heart-shaped biscuit at bedtime. He sleeps in a crate. When he hears me touch the bag of treats, he beats a path to his crate in high excitement. They are a BIG hit with my him. They are well worth the price. Some reviewers mentioned the click was too loud. And I must admit it is indeed loud. I was very aprehensive about purchasing it because of this problem. However, I heard so much praise about clicker training that I bought it with the intention of muffling the sound by adhering some sound absorbing materials to the clicker to reduce the loudness of the click. Well, as soon as I got my hands on it I discovered an easy way to reduce the loudness of the click. Here is how:

Simply place the clicker with the orange button facing down on or just before that fatty tissue part of your palm that the thumb extends out of. Then apply firm pressure to the back side of the clicker by folding your four fingers on top the clicker. Make the pressure just firm enough so that clicker sound holes are pressing against the fatty tissue of your palm, then when needed just apply a little more pressure with the four fingers on the back of the clicker to make it click. If you have the clicker positioned at the proper angle the lanyard hole will be inline with the middle of your wrist.

Don't waste time with the cheap dog-bone clickers. This is reliable and you never find you're mashing the "wrong end" and failing to make the noise precisely when you need to. This was just the right clicker for me and my GSMD puppy when we were both learning marker/clicker training technique. That said, I finally switched to using my voice (I follow Ed Frawley's training advice and now YES! takes the place of click). Why? because with a leash, treats, and other gear there's one less thing to manage by hand, I never misplace my voice, and am always prepared to emit the behavior marker at the correct time! The switch from clicker to voice was no problem for either me or my dog, and there are still uses for these excellent clickers in training.

OK, I was anxious to get started so first I went to Petsmart to buy it in person. But they didn't have it, so I ended up buying one of those little bone ones. DON'T DO THAT! It broke within five minutes of using it.

So I got online and ordered this one from Amazon. It's SOOOOOO much better. It's very loud, sturdy and works perfectly.

Don't waste your dogs time or your money on any other clicker. BUY THIS ONE ... in my humble opinion ;)

Over the last few months, we've been training our retriever pup to respond to the usual commands -sit, down and stay -as well as less common ones, such as "leave it" (to help preserve the dignity of our long-suffering kitty). We've used positive reinforcement, since our pup loves both verbal praise and treats.

However, even though she's quite active, we wanted to keep treating to a minimum. Thus began our quest for a quality clicker. We work with our pup both at home and at a neighborhood bark park, so we needed something durable for repeated outdoor use that would be loud enough for our pup to hear over the various neighborhood and park distractions.

The StarMark Clicker StarMark Clicker has worked quite well in both situations. We are able to recall our pup from good distances, and the sound is not intrusive to other people and dogs at the park.

The clicker is comfortable to hold and the button is easy to depress. It accommodates a lanyard (not supplied) and you'll definitely want to rig something up so you can wear this around your neck or perhaps attach it to a belt loop or carabiner. The sound is distinctive, too -cast your mind back to childhood and those metal beetle toys.

All in all, we've found this to be a simple, durable, pocket-size device that gets a four-paw rating from our pup, and a high-five from the head trainer and her assistant (me). If you're considering clicker training, two additional resources we've made great use of are Kyra Sundance's "101 Dog Tricks" 101 Dog Tricks: Step by Step Activities to Engage, Challenge, and Bond with Your Dog and Victoria Stilwell's "It's Me or the Dog" It's Me or the Dog: How to Have the Perfect Pet; the latter is a good companion piece to the television series of the same name.

Yes, this does click. It's sturdy and others have said it is loud. Loud worked for me because I have 6 dogs and when 6 dogs start barking most clickers just won't do. However; One day, while fiddling with a Snapple cap, it clicked. My dogs reacted to the clicking sound just as they did to the clicker. The Snapple cap is less expensive, fits in your pocket, you get the benefit of the drink itself, if you lose the cap you have lost no money and as previously stated; it is just as effective as the clicker sold here. I bought this food upon recommendation from the Natural Cat Care blog. It isn't available in any stores near me, so I ordered a case online. Sadly, my cats don't really like it. I think it's too rich for them. The fat content is quite high and one of my cats can't tolerate high-fat food. I only gave her a little at a time, but I think it was still too much for her. My other cat turned his nose up at this food but would eat it if I sprinkled treats on it. I don't think I'll buy it again, but it does seem to be a high quality food. If you have cats that like rich pate-style food, this might be a winner for them.
