This is the only food my rabbit will eat most of. And when I say most of I mean every once in a while he will stop eating the green pieces....and then switch to not eating the brown pieces...and then sometimes the red pieces.

I do rabbit rescue and through fostering, my own buns, and contact with hundreds of other licensed domestic rabbit rescuers, there is a niche for this product. We all prefer Oxbow brand pellets (when cash is not an issue!), and usually certain Purina products when cash is an issue, but Kaytee Rainbow Exact is especially good for the occasional foster who won't eat Oxbow, or more often, for a rabbit who has a dental issue that causes him to prefer a softer "pellet." This "pellet" is extruded so it's easier to bite, and therefore works well for bunnies with dental pain while they recover. It's usually well liked and tolerated. Some people also soften it with water first, but it must be changed frequently to avoid molding.

Some points to note:

1. HAY is the most important part of a rabbit's diet (grass hay like timothy, NOT alfalfa, for adult rabbits), then daily green vegetables, started in small quantities (again, buns who are not babies), and then limited pellets (our advice is based on spayed/neutered bunny kept in the house--they don't need the extra energy of unlimited pellets when not facing weather extremes). See the rabbit food pyramid at

2. The dental condition or mouth pain MUST be addressed by a qualified exotics-specialized vet. You can't just feed this product and decide not to get bunny's molar points trimmed, for example.

3. Basic guideline for a good pellet is one that does NOT have seeds, colored bits, or dried fruit in it. Stay away from these products. The colorings added to this Kaytee don't seem to fall into the categories of other "pretty" foods that appeal to humans but are bad for bunnies due to high carbs/sugars that cause lots of trouble with their cecums and the resident bacteria.

Sometimes it's hard to find this product. I use it to keep weight on my 12-year-old mini-lop. She likes the flavor and is eager to find it hidden around her pen. It supplements her Oxbow pellets and provides an extra calorie source that is easy to pick up in her lips and chew with her molars (she has no incisors anymore!).

I give it four stars in general, though it's five stars when applied to the correct situations.

My rabbit wouldn't eat pellets. She would push them out of her dish and they'd build up on the food side of her cage. This is a problem because we usually wouldn't need to clean that side so often. I got this product because it has no pellets and the rabbit really seems to like it. This sounds like a 5 star review and it would have been had the food not smelled like wet paint. Still, I am happy as long as my rabbit is happy and she seems content to me. I recommend it if your rabbit won't eat pellets but otherwise, it might be easier to stick to your current food.

EDIT: After several days, the rabbit has just about stopped eating this food completely. We needed to clean out the cage and her recent ....leavings... were somewhat irregular. I have a feeling it's because we didn't allow her an adjustment period and she wasn't used to them but It's still somewhat worrisome. I'll try to get my bunny adjusted to the food but maybe Iv'e changed her diet too much. At about the same time, I gave her new hay without thinking. Since my rabbit won't eat it and because of the smell, I'll give it only 2 stars. If you're trying many other pet foods and your rabbit won't eat them, maybe consider this, otherwise, I'm currently picking the pellets out of my old food that she had stopped eating before this one. I guess my rabbit is picky so don't base you decision on this review but this was my experience.

My rabbit was not a fan of this particular food. She picked out all the red ones first, so they must've been the most appealing. Additionally, the food smelled TERRIBLE. I would recommend this to someone, because it's nutritious, it just wasn't a hit for our bunny.

I use this mostly for my older bun who has some trouble keeping on the weight. Its not a replacement for timothy hay and fresh fruits and vegetables but I think its a great addition to his diet.
