This is basically a generic version of Capstar. Not only is it cheaper, you get more pills per container. We have had the worst flea season ever and spraying alone didn't seem to make a dent since our pets spend a lot of time outside and the yard is too big to completely cover with insecticide. After we tried the capsules on our pets the adult fleas started dying within 30 minutes. As suggested we sprayed the house and outside area with a home insecticide to kill eggs and larvae that are not affected by these pills. They work by poisoning the adult flea when it bites the dog, so therefore the more eggs you kill beforehand will help reduce the number of capsules you have to give your dog. Also works on our indoor cat as well and they are MUCH happier after just one week. They suggested giving a dose daily for heavily infested dogs (esp. if they are kept outdoors)until you notice a great improvement. We gave one tablet each day for two days, then skipped a day, then skipped 2 days. We only see a couple of fleas falling off our dog now and she isn't scratching.

Would also work if you don't want to spray for the flea eggs, but would have to give the tablets over a longer period of time since the fleas would continually hatch. In effect, you would have to wait until every egg hatched and bit your dog so they would no longer appear.

Yes, I'm actually excited by this! This review pertains to my two cats (~1 year and ~2 years old, ~10-11 lbs each). Bottom line: IT WORKS, IT WORKS FAST, AND IT WORKS COMPLETELY.

If you have ever had a flea infestation, you know how demoralizing it can be. Not only do you pain for your poor pets who are constantly scratching and can never rest easily, but you begin to feel like you are under siege in your own house--no matter where you walk, you suddenly have fleas coming on board for an ankle ride. It can become very stressful.

I'm pretty sure the fleas came from a neighborhood cat that got too close to one of my cats outside on the balcony. Within a few days, I began to notice itchy red bumps on my ankles, blood spots where the cats were walking, and could feel small lumps on the cats (back of neck, chest, etc.). So I tried several other products before this one, including:

1) Adams Plus Flea & Tick Shampoo with IGR for Cats and Dogs, 12 oz: may have helped some, but there were still fleas alive on their bodies after the bath.

2) Sergeant's Gold Flea and Tick Squeeze-On Cat Over 5-Pound: I really did not like the idea of putting an insecticide on my cats, especially one that warms about potential harm to humans if absorbed through the skin (what about cats?), but my mom had said it worked for her cats in the past. It made my one cat seem spaced out and unhappy, and while it did work somewhat (could see fleas dying on the floor), it didn't kill them all and they had them again pretty bad within a day or two.

3) Johnson's Baby Shampoo 15 oz (444 ml): seemed to do little to nothing, I could physically see and feel the fleas hanging onto my cat's chest while it was submerged under water. They (the fleas) were under water for at least 1-2 minutes and still survived.

4) Diatomaceous Earth 3 pounds: worked into the cats' fur as well as into the carpet and other areas the cats would travel. This did seem to help somewhat more than the above, but the fleas would return in a day or two.

5) Hartz UltraGuard Plus Flea & Tick Home Spray, 22oz (or a product similar to this one): my mom had some left over from many years ago. I sprayed it where the cats would sleep and at the thresholds to my house (rear balcony, front door, etc.). This may have helped some, but again did nothing for the fleas on the cats.

6) Flea comb: it does work, but if there are a lot of fleas, it will take forever and you will never get them all.

So, while searching, I finally kept coming across Capstar (brand name of this product), and liked what I read. I searched online for side effects and could find NO bad reviews. That really says something. If you believe the stated science of the chemical in the pill, it has no effect on mammals, but is the equivalent of nerve gas for insects like fleas and ticks. The only "down-side" was a temporary increase in flea activity as they are dying, which I could justify if it meant actually killing the fleas.

Being cautious, I split a capsule between both cats (1/2 to each), putting it in a little canned salmon on a plate, and they both gobbled it down. Within 20-25 minutes (truly), the cats began scratching more, then darting around. They would zoom back and forth, like someone was chasing them. Knowing how this product worked, I knew not to be concerned. I did feel bad for them, as it was like they were trying to "get away" but didn't know how (jumping up on window sills, etc.).

I realized that since the fleas were dying, I should try to keep them in a confined space to make clean-up easier, and decided to do it in my bathroom and bathe them in my tub at the same time. I again used the baby shampoo, and while bathing, I could see the water begin to fill up with dead fleas. Most were fully dead, some were wiggling a little bit.

After the bath and drying the cats, I let them back out and within a few minutes they were conked out on the living room floor. It was like they had been awake for a week and were now finally able to sleep. I checked for fleas with my comb and couldn't find any! I couldn't feel any stuck on their bodies either (like before).

Within a day or two, I began to see fleas again, so I would treat them again. So far, I've given them half-doses about four times, still with no bad effects. Each time, it kills the fleas (you can see them dead on the floor or in their fur).

I am now combining this with Little City Dogs FLEA CONTROL Capsules for Cats and Small Dogs TWELVE 165 mg Lufenuron Capsules ...Same Active Ingredient As Program® a full year of protection from flea eggs and larvae for your pet to make sure no more flea reproducing happens between flea killing. I've also used Borax on the carpets in areas where the cats go and sleep (letting it sit for a few hours, then fully vacuuming). This has helped tremendously! Don't under-estimate the power of daily vacuuming to break the flea cycle.

I've been able to walk between rooms and sit on the couch without having to constantly check my ankles and legs for fleas. If you've been through that nightmare, you know how much of a relief it is! And you will probably do a little dance over the bodies of the dead fleas too!

I highly recommend this product! It works 100% (and very quickly), is very inexpensive, is easy to administer (I mix it in food), and really has no down-sides to it. Put an end to the fleas on your pets and use this ASAP!

I bought 2 containers of capsules for our cat; a huge furry Maine Coon. It was the first time he'd had fleas and he was miserable. Naturally, we weren't too thrilled either. The capsules arrived quickly and I was particularly happy that

I had the option of opening the capsules and sprinkling the nitenpyram on our cat's (wet) food. Within 24 hours, he was a

a very happy camper. I gave him one each day for three days and sprayed/washed his bed, etc. I bought extra to have on hand. Amazing. No fleas on the cat.

I am so grateful to have found this product from Little City Dogs! It's wonderful to be able to buy the exact same medication as in the "name brand" at such an affordable price. In fact, I noticed results even faster than the "name brand" product (perhaps because the capsules allow the medication to get into the animals' system faster?).

At first I thought the capsules would be awkward (I've only ever used tablets) but I had no trouble at all giving them to my three dogs and three cats. I have one cat who has always balked at taking medication, but my trick is to dissolve the medication into a spoonful of grape jelly and then smear the jelly onto her paws, then she proceeds to lick off the jelly (and medication) and she's none-the-wiser lol!

Thank you, Little City Dogs, for offering a high-quality product at a great price (something that is so important to those of us with multiple pets, especially when we're faced with an unexpectedly difficult flea season).

We have three cats, which to me is 2.5 too many. Anyway, we have a flea problem this year. It's happened before but never anything like this. We've tried several products this summer, advantage, frontline etc and nothing has worked very well. We used capstar once on the dog years ago. I remember mostly what it cost.

This stuff had many good reviews and at a fraction of the price of capstar I had to try it. I am 100 percent impressed. Within 30 minutes you could tell the poor cats were feeling the effects of fleas in their death throes. They suffered like that for a little while but they are good now.

It is what is advertised as, instant flea death serum. It's not advertised or meant as a preventative or long term product. It works far better than I remember capstar working for the dog. I only wish this was available back then, it would have saved us some money. Vet wanted 25 per dose.

The capsule comes apart very easily to mix the contents into wet food. It's not one of those that you have to hack away at just to have it explode in a cloud of dust. Wet food has worked best for us. For those of you who have never tried getting a cat to swallow a pill, it's no a walk in the park. They grow an extra set of legs and their claws are magically tipped with carbide as soon as you think about trying it. just break open the capsule.

As much as the cats annoy me I still don't want to see them uncomfortable or unhealthy. This has helped very much and I wholeheartedly recommend it to any battling pet pests. Man, how I miss the dog after she went to the big dog park in the sky.
