I'm not one to dress up my dog in clothes. Sometimes I want to walk around with a pair of scissors and cut off the tutus and fashion boots on the poor dogs I see and yell, "Run Forrest! Run!" But Chicago is brutal in the winter and there's always mounds of salt on the sidewalks and roads. Good news for me so that I don't crack my head open but bad news for my dog's paws. I couldn't stand seeing her limp around during our walks anymore, so I decided to splurge a little and get her these boots.

They're very easy to put on and my dog tolerates a lot from me so she didn't struggle or try to rip them off. They made her walk around like a horse which I thought was pretty amusing. We had some pretty deep snow a while ago but the boots didn't fall off. There are two straps which helped me make sure that I had them on tight enough. I found that it was easiest to keep the straps bound when I first slipped them on (makes it so that the two straps don't tangle and stick together), then I unbound the bottom velcro strap and tightened, then unbound and tightened the top strap.

I know she felt funny walking in them, but no more limps during our walks and she seems much more willing to walk longer distances. Plus, I liked the fact that I could just take off the boots and hang them up instead of taking the time to wipe off her paws after our walks. They aren't waterproof, so if I stayed out for a long time the insides would be damp. But I'm going to try the ScotchGard as suggested to see if that helps.

One thing is, if your dog falls in between sizes, I would go for the larger size. I ordered a M but they were a bit too small. It was very easy to exchange the boots and customer service always responded promptly to my e-mails. You have to pay to ship them back (cost me $2.07) but they ship them to you for no extra charge, which I appreciated.

Update: I posted a video to show how I put the boots on because the straps kept tangling on me and was frustrating till I figured out this quick easy way to do it. Also, it might seem like I'm pulling on the boots really hard but I made sure not to hurt her paw in any way plus she would have let me know if it hurt. Just wanted to show you guys that it stays on pretty tight. Also, as most of you know/experienced, Chicago had 2 feet of snow and I definitely walked through the blizzard with her wearing the boots. They didn't come off even once and kept her feet pretty dry.

Woof Hoofs are a unique dog boot. These boots were made for hiking as well as for snow. I had a very good experience with ordering these since the company representative was very helpful in helping me figure out what size to order for my dogs.

I bought size S for Cookie, my Cockapoo and size XS for Gigi, my Lhasa Poo. When I received them, I liked that they came in a mesh bag which is good for storing them to dry.

What makes them different is the fact that they are made with neoprene, which is the same material you find in wet suits. The area of the boot under the paw had a reinforced area with little dots so the dogs wouldn't slip on the pavement.

At first glance, I noticed how they were constructed. They were sewn securely and had two strips of velcro to fasten the boot around the dog's leg. The material had enough stretch but not too much to become stretched out. Because it is on the stiff side, it helps to bend the material where the crease is so the boot will be more flexible with the dog's paw movements.

The best way to put them on was to slide them over the paw. With my dog's type of fur, the longer they go without haircuts, the bulkier the hair is around the legs. Still, since I measured the width of the paw pad and rounded up, the boots wound up fitting fine.

Taking the dogs out in the snow, I realized how important it was to securely tighten the boots. While the dogs weren't thrilled with having the boots on because they weren't used to them, once I got them moving I noticed that Cookie was more confident in her stride. Instead of trotting, she was running full steam ahead. The boots stayed on pretty well in the snow. When they are walking in deeper snow, you have to watch to make sure they don't slip off. After walking through all of that snow, one of the boots did fall off.

By the fourth time, of taking the girls out, I had put the boots on tight enough so they wouldn't fall off. The most important thing was not to put them on too tight to cut the circulation off. It was nice to see that their feet didn't have little snowballs underneath after removing them once we were inside.

All in all, this is a well-made product that will stay on your dog's paws. You may need to keep an eye on the dogs to make sure the boots don't slip off in deeper snow but once you and the dogs get used to it, they work really well. They kept the snow off and kept their feet warm. At a price of $24.99 USD the quality of the boots are worth the price.

I bought these boots for my dog to keep his paws from getting muddy on our morning walks through the suburbs (the boots' original purpose is to keep the paws warm and protected from snow or other rough terrain). When we go on our morning walks, my dog walks on wet grass or in puddles, then on dirt, and his paws get very muddy. I can only imagine how dirty he'll be once the rainy season starts. He has relatively long fur on his feet, so it was a bit of a pain to have to come home, carry him to the tub, and wash his feet every morning after our walk. I haven't had much luck finding rain boots that I thought would work and that got good reviews. The only other rain boot that seemed to get good reviews was the Pawz, but I didn't think that would work well for my dog. Pawz are like balloons that fit over your dog's feet. I was worried that it would be difficult to put on because of his long fur, and that it wasn't going to be long enough to really keep his feet clean.

So far, the Woof Hoofs seem to meet my needs. They're made of neoprene, so they're not completely waterproof (though the company told me there is a sealant I can use that will make it waterproof while still maintaining the flexibility of the material). I haven't tried it in the rain yet, but so far, just walking on wet grass and even through a few small puddles, these boots have kept my dog's feet dry. Once the rainy season starts, I'll see if I need to apply the sealant to make it completely waterproof.

Surprisingly, my dog sits there and lets me put the boots on. The only time he tries to pull off the boots is about 30-40 minutes into our walk. He's done this both times we've used the boots. I'm not sure what is causing them to get uncomfortable at that point maybe it starts rubbing, or maybe his feet are getting too hot? He'll try to pull at the velcro closures, will walk about 5 feet, then stop again to try to pull at the velcro, and will keep doing this until I either take the boot off or can distract him enough to continue walking. He's does this with both front boots, but leaves the boots on his back feet alone. If I distract him, though, he forgets about it and we can continue our walk until he starts thinking about it again. I've taken the boots off to see if maybe the boots were rubbing or something he'll lick his paw, but I could never find any sore spots. When I put the boot back on, he starts walking again and doesn't look uncomfortable.

The boots seem to stay on really well and are easy to put on & take off. The only time one of the boots came off was after my dog had pulled on the velcro strap and managed to loosen it enough for his foot to come out. It's a little tricky trying to figure out just how tight to make the velcro straps you want it tight enough to stay on, but not so tight that it becomes uncomfortable for your dog. I like how there are two straps on each boot so you can better adjust the fit.

When I first put them on, my dog walked funny, kind of like he was walking on hot coals. It was a funny (and sorry) sight, and I started to have second thoughts about what I was putting my poor dog through by making him wear boots. After a couple minutes, though, he got used to them and walks (even runs) just fine in them.

I ordered these boots directly from the company's website. Their customer service is excellent. Before I ordered the boots, I sent them an email asking whether the boots were waterproof or not. They replied quickly and told me although neoprene is not waterproof, there is a sealant I can apply myself to make them waterproof (they even gave me the name of the product so I could do it myself). I also received the boots very quickly within 2 days I think (though I am located in the same state as the company).

A couple suggestions regarding the boot:

1) When you measure your dog's foot to determine the size, be sure to measure the dog's front foot (the front feet are a little bigger than the back feet). The boots fit snugly on my dog's front feet and fit slightly loose on the back feet.

2) The boots are a little stiff when you first get them. One of the reviews I read said you should bend the boots at the seam to soften it up a bit. I folded the boot at the seam then used the velcro straps to hold it in the bent position overnight. When we used them the next day, the neoprene bent easily and made it easier for my dog to walk.

I'm sure people will probably look at us funny and think I'm either silly or mean for putting boots on my dog, but as long as he continues to do well with them and it seems he's comfortable, we will continue using them. Both of us will enjoy not having to wash mud off his feet every morning.

I've been shopping for dog boots for a while now with the goal of protecting my dog's sensitive toes from the bitter cold and harsh salt/melt chemicals that are unavoidable during the long Midwestern winter. He's started developing little sores just above his pads that will bleed and are obviously painful to him when salt gets in them outside, so I needed something to give him a little warmth and keep the chemicals and salt out without restricting his movement.

I've tried on 3 different styles of boots and these are by far the best they are the perfect compromise between easily torn cloth booties and the really rigid boots that don't allow the dog to move naturally. I don't use them daily (only when it's really cold or there is a lot of new salt down), but they've held up well so far.

PROS:

-exceptionally easy to put on and secure, easier than any other dog boot I've tried

-they stay put! My dog wears them to run around crazily in the snow and on 2-3 mile long walks with no spinning upside down or falling off.

-they do the job keep salt/chemicals off of him and seem to provide a little insulation against cold/wet

-Woof Hoofs includes a tube of sealer to help prevent wear and do spot fixes as needed

-don't seem to impede the natural motion/work of the dog's foot at all toes can spread and joints can move

-very reasonably priced

CONS:

-on some surfaces they seem to be a little more slippery than a bare paw, but I imagine dogs can learn to compensate for this after wearing for a while

-straps can rub dog's ankles if not adjusted properly
