Merrick Flossies used to be the Rolls Royce of dog chews. My pooch loved them. Some time around a year ago, Merrick changed the way the product was made and packaged. I would buy this in bulk as a carton of 50, which is a considerable expense. When I opened the box I was met with an overwhelming smell of wax. Like from a candle. Each of the Flossies appeared to have been dipped in wax and it left a slimey smelling coating on each one. My dog was no longer interested in the product and the box turned out to be a waste of money. I waited a number of months and ordered this smaller pack to see if I got a bad batch. Again, they were covered in wax, but this time they were also individually wrapped in plastic, to keep the wax smell in I presume. Lastly I went to a local pet store and was told they all come covered in wax now. I have moved on to organic and artisanal Flossie like products. It's a shame, they were the best but now inedible to my dog.

I get these regularly for my 2 small dogs (maltipoo and pomston) for long car rides. It keeps them happy and busy which is important because one of them tends to get car sick if she's not occupied. They love them but I have to take them away when there is only an inch or so left. My maltipoo choked on a small piece and it was very scary. Now I just keep an eye out when they get to around an inch and they get taken away.I don't know why, but the prices on these doubled in the last few months. I'm starting to limit how many they can have. I have noticed their breath isn't as clean since I've cut back. They must have really helped keep their teeth clean!

My Havanese dog LOVED this treat when I first gave it to her. Kept her occupied which was a blessing when she was being rambunctious. However, I do notice that if I give her this treat a lot it "loses it's appeal" and she doesn't seem to be as excited to have it as before. If I give it to her once in a while she's more enthusiastic about it. One spiral will last for approximately 4-5 days if I give it to her for an hour or two at a time.
It is VERY expensive. Can't believe I spend this much money on a treat! But I am looking for high quality treats that are made in the US and is not potentially harmful. Therefore, I am willing to pay a premium for whatever she puts in her mouth. My Shih Tzu has enjoyed these treats for years. I used to give them 5 starts. But then the company started having inventory problems. Sometimes it would take 2-3 months unless you were willing to pat $250 a box. Now they've fixed the inventory issues but have totally screwed up the packaging. Where they used to just place a cardboard strip in the middle of the treat, now they shrink-wrap it in very tough plastic. You have to fight with it for 5 minutes just to get the darned thing unwrapped. And they've gone backwards environmentally speaking. All of the packaging used to be recyclable but now it goes in a landfill. I've just had it. My puppy prefers your chews, but I think it's going to be Best Bully Sticks from now on.
