I got this to kill our growing flea population that seem attracted to the cat despite her being indoors-only. For some reason this particular apartment has a problem, when I've lived other places and never had fleas before.

I'm not sure how severe our infestation really is on a scale of things, they were nabbing at our ankles but its not like there were tons of them, just a few is enough and the population seemed to be growing.

I vacuumed first normally after putting some powder in the vacuum bag. I put Advantage on the cat and this down on the carpet. I left it as long as I could, most of the day (I left the house to do other things) but doing 24 hours is entirely impracticalI don't think you want to be in the house at all when this is down. There were also places it couldn't be applied, since moving all the furniture off the floor was impossible.

It has a really STRONG smell, if you are sensitive to strong smells it will bother you. Its like a sickeningly sweet potpourri. You will need to air out the place after doing it. I work a mask over my face while putting it down, since it does tend to poof into the air and make a haze, which will also make a thin layer of white powder on everything in the room and I didn't want to breathe it in. I kept the cat in one of the rooms which I did not treat until the next day when I could let her back in the rest of the house.

The flea population definitely seemed to go down, there were fewer appearing on us and much less on the cat, but not entirely gone. I put out a flea trap that was also picking some up still. So I don't know that I can blame the product for not killing everything entirely since it seems difficult to use at full effectiveness.

I do think one thing that helps is just reading up on fleas on wikipediathey have certain behavior, and just vacuuming can help curtail them. They tend to leave eggs in areas frequented by your pet, which only go back onto a host when they hatch. Its not like there's eggs everywhere in your house. They also cannot live off humans. I notice other than increased scratching, I know my cat has fleas because she changes her favored laying areas a lot more, and chooses places up off the carpet a lot more. She also sometimes chooses tile floors which is odd normally.

I may also try diatomaceous earth in the future, since that is less toxic and kills them by drying them out.

One canister was enough for our 3 bedroom apartment, though its not a large place.

Update: I had bought 2 cans, and a couple weeks later treated the carpet again similarly because the flea population was rising again (we had just been vaccuming regularly since the first treatment). It seemed like there were less of them afterwards, and a few I saw seemed sickly, but again I still had several jump on my ankles the next day. I think I will be trying a different brand next time to see if I can find something more effective.

Though we have "indoor" cats occasionally they get out. One did and brought in some fleas. One got off the cat and laid eggs in the carpet. Suddenly we had one spot where if you walked you got jumped by fleas. Using the borate powder problem solved. Benign (I'm not going to eat it.) and invisible all of the fleas died and the problem was solved.

This carpet powder worked wonders. No flea problems now where we put it. Actually, I gave it 4 stars because of the price. There is powder at Walmart for less than $4.00 that worked the same.

This product works as described. The only thing I didn't like was it seemed to clump a bit when sprinkling it out (making waste as some spots were heavier then needed). It also has a nice scent that helped the house smell cleaner. Best if left for more than 24 hours to really set it. I am going to be cleaning the carpets in the near future, once the carpet dries I will reapply this to help keep the scent locked in and the fleas out (and yes my dog does get a monthly flea treatment).

powdered the carpet and left for the weekend. I didn't notice a strong pesticide smell like with a spray, almost a citrus-type smell. Can't speak for the effectiveness, as I was using it for preventive measures (my basement was infested, with only one or two escaping to the upstairs), but I am confident that the residue will continue to work if I have any more stragglers
