I got this vest for my 45 pound lab mix and the fit is OK as a size large. It goes on and comes off quickly and the handle on the back is a nice feature.

I've used it maybe a couple dozen times over one season in the water and also as insulation for cold weather walks in rain and snow over one winter.

The problem is that the stitching is marginal and I ended up having to re-sew the velcro patch stitching along the chest portion and also near the anchor points for the straps. Over time, one of the plastic clips broke as well.

Good design but needs better stitching and components.

ADDENDUM 5/21/11: I contacted the manufacturer and they replaced the vest for free. The also said they're constantly trying to improve their products and appreciate feedback.

I had to return the small jacket as the listed measurements aren't accurate for estimating fit (19-24" torso girth and 15-25 lbs). My dog is 20" torso girth and weighs 23 lbs, but the jacket wouldn't close at the torso or neck. I reordered the medium size because it is a great jacket the new design is definitely worth the few extra bucks. It's a really great life jacket. If you're wondering about the extra float piece at the neck it's not removable which is a bummer because it makes the front a bit bulky under their head for real doggie swimmers, but helpful if your dog isn't a great swimmer.

I bought this about a month ago, and it has held up great. I went on a hike, up a creek, and my dog wore this Life Jacket the whole way and it still looks like new. However, my friend brought his dog that had a life jacket from Bass Pro, but the Bass Pro Life Jacket was torn in many places. I have a 50 LBS Boxer; and I am able to pick her up with the handle, and it does not feel like it is going break/tear. Without the jacket my dog sinks within 10 minutes, no joke. With the jacket she swims for hours. The only bad thing is the plastic loop that you are supposed to connect a leash to does look like it will break, but I rarely have my dog on a leash so it does not bother me. Also you could leave your dogs collar on and you will still be able to access it with the jacket on.

I bought two large jackets for my dogs, hoping that a large would fit. It was a good choice. The mix has a long shepherd body with a deep chest and the bully, well, she's a submarine (she sinks) built like a tank (60 lbs). We spend lots of time playing in the river nearby, and even though I am pretty sure the pit mix can swim, I wanted her to have an opportunity to make it to shore if we ever lost her out of the boat in the rapids. The bully flat out can't swim and hates the water. We make her come because it's good physical therapy for her (she's ten). The jackets kept them both afloat. At one point in time, the pit mix was just hanging out in the slow current, bobbing along. The bully's head definitely needed the neck/chin pad to keep her face out of the water, and I really appreciate it. I don't have to worry about her spending too much time in the water voluntarily, but if either dog ever needed it I feel the jackets would give them the buoyancy to make it to shore or back on the boat. The bully wouldn't be thrilled about it though.
