Have you ever seen a dog savor anything that they loved to eat? Likely not because they literally suck it down so fast it disappears. That is a fact of dog eating habits, passed down to them by their ancestors, the wolf! That is, unless the food is a Greenie. I knew this stuff was something special because I will never forget Max' reaction the very first time he was first offered a Greenie more that seven years ago. At first I thought he didn't particularly like it because he didn't gobble it down like he did with his other favorites. No, he took it gently in his mouth, kinda like it might have been a fine cigar, trotted out to his favorite spot on the lawn, laid down, put the Greenie between his paws so it stuck up like an ice cream cone, proceeded to bite off a small chunk, chewed it slowly and actually SAVORED it! He repeated this until the Greenie was gone, many minutes later. And that's the way it has been for seven years, every day, after his dinner, rain or shine, inside or outside, the same routine. It amazes me, especially when he gets a special dinner of mostly Costco roasted chicken which he absolutely devours in seconds, then asks for his Greenie, and off he trots to lay down, relax and savor it.
What amazes his Vet is the condition of his teeth and gums. I am ashamed to say that I have never brushed his teeth. Never. My bad. However, Greenies saved Max from having to deal with bad teeth and gingivitis plagued gums. His vet says that she rarely sees dogs the size of Max (Lab-Chow mix -85 lbs) with teeth and gums that look as good as his. So I feel fortunate and don't feel guilty.
I don't know if your dog's experience will be like Max', but you ought give your dog a Greenie and see what happens.
