I wanted to switch away from Greenies. My dog is 8-9 years old and his teeth are in great ship do to brushing a few times per week, greenies at night and rawhide on weekends but I read that studies are showing to much vitamin A in seniors can lead to more bone injuries. I checked his greenies and they have 6,000 IU of vitamin A in them!!! That is more than I should be getting per day. I like Pet Naturals of Vermont, great company, products that work and they seem to care about what they put in their products so I thought I'd give these a shot. The ingredients are natural not synthetic, has some mushroom compounds and yucca that work from the inside out for teeth/breath/bacteria health. The only ingredient I can't wrap my head around giving my pup every day is the pumice. I did quite a bit of research on this and I do believe it to be safe for digestion as it is such a fine form it won't scratch on the inside since it's not like a ruff rock that provides pressure from scraping. However, it will really polish their teeth clean which is good but I don't think I want to do that every day. My plan for now is to give him one of the breath sticks 3times per week and Pet Naturals breath bites on the other evenings. The bites have mostly the same ingredients aside from the pumice. Hope this helps your choice :)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The first impression this makes is slightly strange. It's a hard, relatively star-shaped, extruded tube that feels slightly grainy and smells both mushroomy and grassy at the same time.

I have a 23 lb chigi--corgi/chihuaha--that is on a pretty strict diet to keep her weight down, so she's particularly food driven: she took this and jumped up on the couch with it; she ate it all in three minutes.(It doesn't make a mess on furniture.)

There was no noticeable difference in her breath, but she doesn't have much of an issue with that because she lets me brush her teeth. I'm not clear what this would do for a dog that has really bad breath.

It does make a nice treat, though. Each piece can be broken up into four smaller pieces.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program These breath bars were a big hit with my medium sized dog, Max. He crunches his up pretty fast, and after three days of use I can detect an improvement in his deadly doggie breath. They are shaped like his usual Dental sticks, and I really thought it would take him longer to chew one up. His have crumbled pretty quickly, although Max is quick to sweep up all the pieces. A good purchase for anyone seeking some sweet relief from awful odors, but kind of sorry they didn't provide more chewing entertainment.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have used Greenies for a year. I got this product recently. We have two dogs, a Sheltie and a Weimeraner. The Sheltie has breath that would peel paint. Greenies seemed to help with the breath problems but are pretty expensive. The smell of the treats/bones is bad as well.

This product is smaller but the results are the same some help. I gave this product a 4 of 5 because when I tried to get another bag on Amazon it was not available thus I was unable to do a price comparison. The product seems to be a good one and my dogs love them. They don't smell as bad as Greenies.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My dog is a 6 month old lab, about 40 lbs. And these sticks vary in length, most are about 2 to 3 inches long. All sticks are about half inch in diameter.

When I gave my dog about a 3 inch stick the first time, it disappeared in less than 10 seconds. I thought she had dropped it or something. No, she had bitten it and swallowed it in less than 10 seconds! The second time, I watched her and tried to get her to bite it which she was doing, but it went down too fast.

I don't think it's meant to go down that fast. The sticks are hard, but brittle. I think they're not designed well enough. I've given my dog these sticks over a week now and they always disappear too fast. In case you're wondering about my dog, yes she does eat fast usually. But never this fast. E.g. For rawhide bones about the same size she takes about 15 to 20 minutes to chew on those. Not 10 seconds!

In any case, they don't seem to be making any difference in my dog's breath.

I wouldn't recommend these at all.
