My picky and highly-sensitive dog is a lamb lover. So if you're dog loves lamb, he/she will love this treat. Its very dry (so no messy oily residue left on your fingers) and crunchy. You may be able to break some of the larger pieces up into smaller pieces with your fingers but I don't need to because the size happens to be perfect for my 90 lb shepherd's mouth. And he's had no bad reactions to this treat for having the sensitive tummy he has.

The first lamb lung treat ever introduced to my shepherd was Merrick Lamb Texas Hold 'Ems, a few days ago. Then I opened this Smokehouse version it's basically the same thing except this brand cuts them thick and chunky as opposed to thin and flat. My guy adores both the brands, like they're better than jerky. Who knew? Perfect for training new commands.

It smells like dried oriental medicine concoctions to me, so I'm very used to the smell and don't find it offensive. It's a very light smell anyway (even lighter than Merrick's) and FAR better than some of the bully sticks out there. I love the Smokehouse brand because I've always felt I could trust it. I LOVE their bully sticks too because they don't smell or leave residue on your fingers like the Cadet or Red Barn brands (which I can't stand because they smell of rotting animal urinals). And of course more importantly, my shepherd loves treats by Smokehouse!

They are bigger than I expected them to be. I bought them for a small (11lb) dog with a teeny mouth and teeth expecting that they were bite size. Unfortunately they are not and need to be cut for her to eat them. Also, some of them were over cooked and were just to hard for her to chew. She really likes the taste and enjoys them but their a pain to get ready for her. For larger dogs, I suspect they would be just fine. The term "bites" is relative, I guess.

My 12½ week old German Shepherd puppy absolutely loves these. They are hands down the treat he gets the most excited about. I've got him on an all lamb diet, and these have been great as a training motivator.
