The cuttlefish bones for birds have been bleached and tortoises do not like that at all. These are natural / unbleached and my 6 boys and girls like them the best of all the store-bought variety. Clean cuttlefish bones from the beach remain their absolute favorits but they will not eat every one probably got fuel or something on them in the water.

I have bought several of these. All you do is place in the tank and the critters do the rest. They last about a week and I like to skip the next week to give them a break. One pack then lasts a whole month and is a great source of calcium for them.

My turtle doesn't show interest in anything I put in her tank except for pellets and crickets (not even fish). She LOVES these!!! Doesn't seem to dissolve quickly. I've had it in her tank for about 4 days now and with the exception of where she has eaten pieces off it's all still there. I keep waiting to see a calcium ring on the tank, but so far nothing. Water is clear , no rings, happy turtle = HAPPY OWNER!!! Will definitely buy more.

I have an Eastern Painted turtle in a 40-gallon aquarium, and I've had a box of these "turtle bones" sitting around for a while because I was hesitant to put one in my turtle's water I was afraid it was gonna really cloud it up. After reading some reviews, and seeing nothing about cloudiness, I rinsed one off and dropped it in, after I cleaned the whole aquarium. A couple hours went by, and while I was sitting in my room on my laptop, I heard a splash come from his tank he was biting off pieces of the cuttlebone! I didn't really expect him to touch it, because he's really finicky about what he eats sometimes. But I'm glad he likes it, because he really needed more calcium than his food can offer, and this makes much less of a mess in the water than dusting his crickets.

However, I give it 4 stars because it still makes a small mess of bone fragments at the bottom when pieces are bitten off. Might just be my turtle's messy eating habits, but either way I've been having to periodically scoop out little pieces of the thing ever since I put it in there.

So good for Turtles. Cuttle bone just floats in tank and they

chew on them. Better than other brands because they have no hard backing like the ones you give birds.
