Loquat and Leonard are brother and sister labs. I've been searching for the perfect edible chew toy since they were born (perfect= lasts an hour or so, dogs like the taste, inexpensive).
The Himalayan chews got 1 out of 3 in my rating system. While the dogs clearly enjoyed their yaky goodness, my more chewy dog ate hers in under 10 minutes. She's a monster, granted. My other dog took his leisurely time licking the treat and lightly chewed it until it, too, was gone in under an hour. To give you a better picture, my dogs are both around sixty pounds and are under a year old.
The chew toys that we've found work are hooves (cheap, but super stinky) and braided bullysticks. They last about as long as these crazy Himalayan cheese sticks, but they're like a dollar each (look for them online or at Costco).
Final verdict, if I were rich, my dogs would get Himalayan dog chews, imported Spanish silver dog dishes, Italian wool beds and personal massage therapists. But as it stands, I can barely afford Ikea for even myself so hooves it is!

My dog loved this treat, and it took days for her to get through it. However, once she was 2/3 of the way through the bone, she swallowed the remiander. She seemed fine until 4 days later, she vomited up the entire piece of the bone in tact. This sat in her stomach for 4 days and was not digested one bit. Fine for a chew toy but not for consumption.Buy Himalayan Dog Chew, Medium 2.5 oz Now
These chews are fantastic, and so much less expensive on Amazon than at my local chain pet store. The very best thing about them is THEY DON'T STINK!! They actually smell like smoked cheddar. No more disgusting foot smell from the hoof chews! Hurrah!Another great feature is that you can take the smaller broken pieces and turn them into big puffy cheese snack treats to avoid any choking hazard. Especially great for dense dogs like mine who like to swallow things whole. Just wrap in damp paper towel and microwave on high for 30 seconds. If it doesn't puff up add 10 more secs at a time. Wonderous.
No weird ingredients, gentle enough for my super sensitive allergictoeverything Westie.
Bonus: no carpet stains!

I have two Australian Shepherds. My 6 year old male is a more demure creature than my 2 year old female; that is, he tends to take his time with things (and isn't much of a chewer), whereas she will obsessively gnaw on a bone for hours. Both dogs liked these. But my boy is still licking and chewing (you know, following the instructions/description on the package), whereas my girl just finished hers. He'll probably get 2-3 hours; she got not quite an hour.verdict: Good natural chew, clean and smell-free, but pricey per minutes-chewed. They get far more mileage out of a raw beef knucklebone, and it's cheaper. But the Himalayan chew makes a better stocking stuffer ;-) And I'll be interested to see the quality and quantity of their output tomorrow morning.
So if your dog is an intense chewer, then this is not going to provide a long-lasting entertainment.
Note: in the time it took me to write this, my boy decided he had enough, and my girl has taken over.Made my dog yak, but he certainly enjoyed it otherwise. Me, not too much! He seems to be able to tolerate the bone if he doesn't "eat" it and bite off chunks. It doesn't smell like rawhide can and it is soft for the puppy teeth and gums.
