This works great if filled with food. But my two young dwarf hamsters emptied the treats from it. Once it was empty, one decided to explore it. She crawled in and got stuck. Began to panic. LUCKILY, I was there at the time and managed to get her out quickly. I've since taken it out of their cage and am afraid to use it for fear of a repeat incident.

So, use with caution with smaller rodents.

Our hamster seems too small for this, we were worried he would get stuck behind the bar, he kept trying to get in there. Also he emptied it in a matter of minutes, still I like the idea of having a feeder, maybe one with a much smaller opening would to the job.

This I like because it keeps the food dry and they cant knock it all out as easily as a dish, nor is it easy to sort through. I put their preferred food in this because I know they will use it. My only concern is the ledge of the divider and the ledge at the front... its a bit sharp for human fingers. I wash this with everything else every time I wash the cage. I realize to their little hands that it's bigger to them, but for my little hands... I must be careful. I do recommend this product.

This worked like a charm for a recent business trip when I could not feed my gerbils. I would not recommend it for someone with pets that have a tendency to overeat, and I would avoid filling it with foods like sunflower seeds that most rodents will stuff themselves with. As another caveat, for gerbils at least, this isn't a good solution for longer-term travel, as their instinct to bury food will often cause them to stuff it so full of bedding that after a few days they can't get at their food, but that's a gerbil problem, and not a problem with this product.

I liked it, and it worked well especially considering the price, but make sure you take a few days to test how your animals will use it before leaving them unattended with it for a few days.

This thing works brilliantly. I use it for gerbils. They cannot tip this over, bury it or break it (chew it). I can leave the top of it open and they won't escape.
