If you have a dog that gulps down food quickly, this feeder will definitely slow them down, which has several health advantages. This feeder also motivates the dog to "work" for their food, by encouraging them to use their nose and mind to figure out how to get at the food. After showing my dog how to get at the food (American Pit Bull Terrier), she quickly learned how to manipulate it to get at her kibble. I use this to feed my dog her meals each day and keeps her occupied for about 10 minutes, however, many of her toys require her to problem solve, so it did not take her long to pick up on this. Of course, time will vary depending on each dog and its ability to problem solve.
The feeder's construction is very solid and durable. It's engineering is genius, as it is designed to be taken apart for easy cleaning. The only drawback is that it will slide on floors, especially if you have a larger dog like mine. To remedy this, I just place on the carpet. I did not take a star away for this aspect because I am unsure if there is any sort of design that would eliminate sliding, especially with large and powerful dog breeds like mine.
I wouldn't say this is a dog toy though, so be sure to monitor your dog while in use.
****UPDATE 07.20.11*****
This has held up well and looks fairly new. However, my dog has this down to a science and can eat all of her food from in in 4 minutes. We have a new dog now and I have tried it with him. Unfortunately, he just does not seem to "get it" like my pit bull does. He just sits there and looks at it, so we are going to have to go extra slow with him.

My dog tends to eat very fast. I also believe that dogs should have jobs and work for their food to keep their brain active and healthy. I stumbled upon this and almost didn't buy it. I am so glad that I did. It takes him much longer to get through his meal (I put his morning wet food in it) and he doesn't burp like he does when gobbling down his meals from the bowl. Easy to clean. Well made. It is plastic, which is fine for me. Great toy. I plan on buying more like this.Buy Aikiou Interactive Dog Bowl Now
Love this thing, my dog hates me for buying it but it does exactly what they advertise it to do. The dog eats slower, we hide a treat or two in the toes, and she gets to actually make an effort for her food rather than wolfing it down.Delivery was fast, the price is good. Whether you want to watch a 'slow' dog struggle or train your fat dog to eat slower, this thing is perfect.

I bought this feeder after reading other dogs had a hard time with it. Unfortunately, my dog is SUPER food motivated. She was afraid of it at first, but after she figured it out, no problem. She can still finish her meals in less than 3 minutes. Her normal food bowl has a rock in it to slow her eating, so in the slow-eating respect, this product is useful. It operates well and is well constructed. I've left it with her in her kennel once or twice and she didn't destroy it -she is a chewer, but I think it's too awkwardly shaped to be an appealing chew toy.I have a Border Collie mix (11months) who is a little ADD and needs extra stimulation. She is addicted to her new toy (or the treats in it). I had been looking at dog puzzles for awhile but they are all pretty expensive and I didn't want to buy something for $50 that I wasn't sure my dog would love. So,this seemed like a good starter and it does keep her attention for a good amount of time. It is light, she has already smacked it against the wall a few times but maybe that's part of the puzzle. Anyways, I suggest breaking up your dogs treats because after a few puzzles it adds up to a lot of pup food and that can get expensive and not to mention unhealthy for your dog.
