Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I ordered this, along with the canned, not realizing that their ingredients are imported. I think the name & description of the product influenced me a little more than I want to admit about the quality & safety of this dog food. After it arrived, I read the information on the package & they use imported ingredients (the dry doesn't say where they get their ingredients), something I refuse to give my pets in light of the recent reports of pets being made sick or dying because of tainted, foreign foods. I am very disappointed that pet food makers are still using ingredients not sourced here in the USA & are still playing 'Russian Roullette' with our pet's lives & health.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program In a modern world where even human food ingredients are decided in a boardroom based on profit margin rather than health, it's absolutely great to find a dog food made from quality ingredients such as fresh chicken, whole grain rice, flax seeds and fruits and vegetables.

Cedar's allergies are much more manageable on this food than they are on lower quality kibbles such as Pedigree.

I feel much better knowing that he is not eating by-products or meat "meal" which is really just the mixed "leavings" of rendered roadkill and euthanized animals.

I am a huge fan of a dog food that puts quality on its priority list.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program It's hard to speak to the longer term health benefits after only a few weeks of feeding our dog this "healthy" option, but there are definitely some positives. She likes this food and had no troubles switching over from a "lesser" (which probably means tastier if less healthy) brand. This is saying something because this dog will eat most anything dropped by the kitchen table UNLESS it's green. She wouldn't eat broccoli if it were smothered in bacon grease and now she's getting some fruits and vegetables in her food. Also, we feel pretty confident that the occasional rashes she was getting were a result of her old food. These have not surfaced since being on the Hill's alone. It's a tough call to pay such a premium price, but I think we'll stick with this or a similar "healthy" variety rather than revert back to the cheap stuff.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This dog food comes in small, round kibbles and has no appreciable smell. There is no corn, wheat or soy and no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Both of my dogs happily eat it, although they don't go nuts like they do with some other brands I've tried. So what's not to love?

Although Hill's is a good name in dog food and they even make prescription-only dog foods (Hill's Prescription Diet), there are a few things I take issue with in this particular offering. While the first listed ingredient is chicken (not meat or chicken by-products), Hill's does not use human grade meat in this dog food.

Hill's also gets some of it's ingredients from other countries (including Japan) which are imported and then the product is produced here. So the "Made in Our US Facilities" may be somewhat misleading, in my mind, even if it is technically correct. If it isn't human grade meat and it isn't guaranteed to be from the USA, I think the premium price is unwarranted. The premium brand I usually buy is similarly priced and uses human grade meat.

Also, the minimum crude protein (19%) and crude fat (14%) content is a little higher than my dogs' regular food.

So my feeling is that this Hill's dog food is a solidly good food, better than most dog foods out there, but it's priced as much as the few exceptional commercially available dog foods.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program There are so many dog foods to choose from it's hard to know which are the best, and which dog foods you can afford. Yes, many would say "don't own a dog if you can't feed him the best" but not everyone can buy premium dog food. That said, I feel as though this food is higher quality than many out on the market. I like this, and I like that is higher priced but still affordable for a 70 pound dog (which I own). I am not as picky as many dog owners, but I want something our dog will eat, something that does not give her stomach problems, a food that does not give make allergies a problem, and lastly something nutritious. This seems to fit the bill. She loved the food, in fact was thrilled to get to eat at her meals. Second, she did not appear to have any problems with the food making her have stomach issues. We mixed this slow with her other food and watched during the feedings to make sure she didn't seem bound up or have loose stools. This was great! Third, our dog has problems with allergies-this didn't seem to cause any "worse" problems. In fact I would say that her allergies were "better" on this food. Lastly, I am no expert but this does appear to be a more nutritious food than many on the market. The ingredients are chicken, brown rice, vegetables, flaxseed, apples and cranberries. NO artificial colors, flavors or preservative. The company also offers a money back guarantee!
