There does not seem to be a reason it cannot be used for dry ingredients for humans! The "pop" concept seems to work well, though upon cleaning you need to be sure you get the pieces back together properly for there to be a good seal. I like how the units are stackable and square/rectangle shaped, so easy to fit together on a shelf and maximize your space. If you are looking for nice-looking containers for dry ingredients that are well designed and a good size (for a pound or two of specialty flours, in our case), these fit the mold perfectly.

I love these OXO storage containers. They're a little pricey but turn out to be worth it. I'm using this one for sugar and would only say that I'd have ordered a larger size if I had it to do again. But, this is fine for my full-time RV life-style.

Strange that this is marketed as a pet food container, because it's way too small for that, even hamster food. Anyway, I have bought several to store coffee grounds, tea bags, chocolate, etc. and it's a wonderful product. The plastic is nice and thick, the pop/locking top is very convenient, the rectangle shape fits efficiently on shelving, and it washes up easily (the top disassembles into two parts). Perfect for a multitude of uses. I did have to buy a replacement for one because I dropped it on the ceramic tiled kitchen floor and the base cracked (the top was not on so coffee spilled everywhere!), but I'm not too upset about having to replace it. There's no other lightweight, efficiently shaped, air-tight canister around that is better, that I know of.

I love OXO so what can I say? These work really well. I have over 30 of this type of canister (all different sizes) for freeze dried foods.

These are so easy to open and close. Not like most canisters that you have to hurt your fingers to open the tops.

I love all the OXO POP containers. They are great for keeping things fresh longer than in their regular packaging and it's nice that the smaller ones can stack. I don't see any difference in the "pet" containers compared to the regular ones, except that the lids are more angular on the outside edges instead of being a little more rounded.
