UPDATED 7.19.13 I was presonally contacted by the "Great Dog" company and thanked for my feedback, which prompted them to alter THEIR product description so that all buyers would be aware that this is actually a pieced bone connected by the yummy stuff for dogs to eat. They also graciously offered to send me a bone that they felt would better handle my goldens' chewing needs. If I could give this company stars for their customer service, they'd get SIX!!!

I had purchased a beef "knuckle" from Meijers for my chewtastic golden retrievers & they lasted through HOURS of chewing... stealing back & forth... burying & digging out... and of course, CHEWING. It was a solid (ONE) piece about the size of a small head of cauliflower. I'd never purchased anything like this before so was overly pleased but I'm saying that because I don't know if my experience with the knuckle is ordinary, or if the experience I had with the "saxabone" knuckle was ordinary. Anyway I gave the saxaphone knuckle to the almost-one year old golden, and within 20 minutes, it had fallen apart into "pieces" -think hockey puck sized sections (almost like a spine bone). I don't know if this is just how this particular section of a cow IS... or if the saxaphone bone was "faulty" but I ended up pulling so many chunks of it out of his throat (yeah, nothing like sticking your hand down the throat of a golden to pull out a slimy piece of bone yippee) that we just went around the house, picked them all up, and threw them away. I still haven't decided if I'm going to return the second one, or put it out to see if it does the same thing.

I have a giant breed puppy who needs something to chew to get him through his chewing phase, and to keep his teeth healthy from that point on. He gets one of these a week. He loves them and they don't splinter. I'll keep purchasing them.
