We bought this toy for our then 3 month old labrador puppy.

He loved the toy. It kept him entertained for extended periods of time.

However, I have 2 issues:

1) This toy is very noisy. The internal parts are made of hard plastic and as the ball tumbles it can be very loud. Because of this, we started allowing the puppy to take it outside to play. Which then leads to issue #2.

2) It lasted only 2 months before the internal yellow/green ball broke into 2 pieces. My guess is that the ball was dropped several times onto a hard (wood deck) surface until it finally broke. There are 2 screws that hold the internal ball together. The mount points for the screws are what broke.

So, while it lasted, it was a great toy.

Let me preface this review by saying that my dog really loved this ball, for awhile. It does however, have some pretty critical design flaws. As some of the other people had mentioned in their reviews, the hole where the treats come out is pretty large; unless you have very large kibble to go in it, the dog can empty it pretty quickly, which defeats the purpose of keeping them busy. To solve this, I put a piece of packing tape over half of the hole, making the opening smaller and harder for Lily to get the food out. The other issue I had was that Lily would start to chew on the hard plastic ends if I wasn't watching her carefully. But it met its final demise when we had a friend's baby over and she dropped the ball down the deck stairs, breaking the interior part in two halves irreparably. However, I then took a hammer, smashed up the hard plastic parts and pulled them out through the holes of the exterior rubber ball, and now we have a very sturdy and well loved chew ball. In terms of a work to eat toy that works well (quiet, keeps them occupied for a long period of time) I thought the Squirrel Buddy was a better product, at least for our dog.

This is really a cool toy for dogs who need a lot of entertainment. I filled it with puppy kibble and laid it on the ground and walked away. A minute later the puppy was all over it nosing it along and shaking it to make the kibble fall out. He got a real kick out of his action making the reaction. You can't really get that much kibble into the tube down the center so I had to refill it a few times this morning. However, he went after it every time! Normally he takes a good hour to eat his food since he is very distractible but not this time!

I do question just how sturdy the plastic inside the ball will be. It is made of hard plastic and while the rubber mesh ball on the outside will cushion it for any drops I think a hard chomp by a big jaw would shatter it. For now, the puppy is too small to try that and the amusement factor (for us) and entertainment factor (for him) is huge. So, awesome toy!!

I use this to feed my boxer/poodle mix 55lb. I fill the center column with kibble and then fill the entire inner ball with kibble too. I can fit almost 2 cups that way. It takes him about 10 minutes to empty it. He eats on the carpet and hasn't tried the dropping method other people mentioned. I caught him chewing on the hard plastic caps when it was empty so now I take it away as soon as he is done eating. Due to the supervision required, I don't want it to take hours for him to empty it at breakfast. Very easy to rinse and drip dry in the sink. Much quieter than the buster cube that the labradoodle uses for her meals! The buster cube is very hard and doesn't seem to pick up much dirt or doggie slobber. I haven't tried to rinse out the inside and dry it. I have an older model of the buster cube and it is impossible to adjust the size of the dispensing slot at this point it's stuck. I think the newer model has some tabs that make it easier to twist the inner core. My third dog is not as smart so she gets to eat from the busy buddy twist n treat. She never understood the concept of rolling any of the food dispensing toys and the twist and treat can be gently nudged to get kibble to fall out. Between the three "toys" the buster cube takes the longest to get the dry kibble out, but is extremely loud. The twist n treat is good to smear a mixture of peanut butter and kibble inside to keep them occupied for longer the food doesn't fall out. It has to be licked out and then is very easy to clean.

My adult standard poodle figured out how to empty this thing in less than five minutes, after I had stuffed it full of Zuke treats. Next, I put a piece of tape to close up part of the hole that releases the treats. It worked in that it took him 8 minutes to empty this thing. I'm going to be eaten out of house and home, or he's not going to get much mental exercise, or both.
