Let me just say that this food has been a life saver. One of my male cats has suffered from horrible hairballs all of his life. I tried science diet, nutro, blue buffalo, you name it. Finally one day I ended up at the Emergency Vet (weekend of course) with a very sick cat. Come to find out he had a hairball that had lodged in his intestine and blocked it. Luckily he was OK. The vet recommended this food and we have been great ever since (2.5 years now). He still throws up the occasional hair ball, but wow they have decreased in frequency and size. I love this food and so does my cat.

The only problem that I have had with this food is from Amazon's packaging process. When it comes from Amazon, the bag is somehow ripped open or cut open every time. When it comes from petfood direct, no problems ever. Not sure what Amazon is doing wrong, but they need to figure it out as this is not exactly cheap cat food.

I have an extremely large (not fat, just huge) cat, who has major problems with digestion. Every other brand cat food he would barf up his breakfast every day. Finally I brought him to the vet, spend $1000 trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with him (he was also worrying the base of his tail bald and howling). We switched him to a novel protein diet (venison) and intense hairball (this product) and like magic, everything cleared up. He still barfs from time to time, but it's gone from an every day occurrence to a once every few weeks occurrence.

I have an indoor Ocicat with asthma who I started on Science Diet because that's what he was getting at the time I adopted him. He would throw up nearly every morning after eating, and within minutes of eating dry cat food of any kind. Ruined my office rug. He likes to sit on the windowsill behind me when I'm at my desk and threw up right down the heating vent...that was lovely. It got so I would feed him in the bathroom every morning so that it would be easy to clean up afterwards. (Yes, he'd been through all the necessary vet tests.) I spent two years rotating trying different foods including home-made raw diets, etc. This cat food was recommended to me by a clerk at PetSmart who had a cat with a similar problem. He's on his second 20-lb bag now and I think has thrown up twice in all that time. Feeding small amounts often also helps so I got an automatic cat feeder. This food is all he gets now and he's thriving.

I been feeding Eukanuba Indoor formula cat food for many years, but noticed as my cats got older (they are now 14 and 15 years old) they started throwing up more and more hairballs and food. This even though, I tried giving them hairball remedy. I adopted a new kitten in July (for my birthday) and found that the only tiny knibble food I could find was by Royal Canin Baby formula for kittens. That's when I noticed they carried an "Intense Hairball formula". So, I decided to feed that to my two older cats. Well, it did it's magic. They very rarely throw up anymore! Now my other kitten (whose 8 month old now)prefers eating the "Intense Hairball 34 Formula" over the "Kitten 36 Formula", which is stage two for kittens 4 mo 12 months old. I recommend it for any cat owner whose cat(s) have problem with hairballs or other throwing up issues.

"What? $44 for a bag of catfood?" This was my reaction when I clicked on Royal Canin Intense Hairball Formula. Only a 15 lb bag and I'm used to paying about $12 for a 30 pound bag of regular food.

But now I was considering the fact that for the the umpteenth time I had stepped into a live hairball with my bare feet in the middle of the night. I was desperate. I'd do anything to stop those hairballs and the reviewers for this food just raved about how it completely cured the problem for them. I gritted my teeth and put the food on my credit card.

At first it seemed to help, but sorry to say, I stepped out of bed into a hairball this morning. And there was another pile in the hall and several little gifts have turned up here for the past week or so. I think it's actually worse than before in frequency and output.

The only good thing is that this food has no food coloring or dyes in it and therefore is a lot easier to lift the stain than with the $12 food. It also smells wonderful and the cats just love it. The ingredients seem to be top choice. "Well, you little suckers," I said to them, "Too bad you like the food so much. If you just hadn't started throwing up again I would buy it forever. You blew it, kids!"

Next I'm going to look for something in between. Something without food color and with hairball control, but less costly. Any ideas out there?
