For around $2.00 a year, you can have what is essentially the expensive heartworm, flea/tick, etc. controls that the vest sells for what-$30.00 a month? Once you learn how to do the small doses required for most companion animals, and realize you don't have to give anyone a pill, you will never go back.
I never obtained satisfactory results using oral wormers from the vet, but after only two applications of Ivermectin in a month, with a drop per pound of weight on the ear opening of my cats, they are finally recovering. Some had dull lifeless hair, were puking up worms, and pooping blood, even though I was taking them to the vet to get the 10.00 a dose wormer as prescribed.
It's pretty much the same for chickens, which is how I discovered this product. Nothing else could get rid of the scaly feet mites because they didn't have them bad enough to raise the scales substantially, so that topicals had a problem getting in the small crevices. Between the topicals and the Ivermectin, everyone is making a great recovery. For small bantam hens, 3 drops. 4 drops for bantam roosters. I give around 9 drops to my 7 pound rooster. Make sure to give it every two weeks, though, because it is only effective on parasites that take blood meals. That means that anything in egg form will not be effected, so you will have to get them as they hatch out by keeping on top of the two week schedule.
ONE WARNING: Ivermectin is NOT for dogs that have collie or sheepdog ancestry in them! They can have seizures and possibly die! No one quite understands why this is, but from what I understand, collies are pretty sensitive to a number of drugs.

Our guinea pig had mites and was always scratching. It got bad enough where he would scratch til he bled. We looked up ways to treat mites and Ivermectin was suggested. Guinea pigs only need 0.5mg of Ivermectin per kg of their weight. So basically only 1 drop behind each ear was required. It's been about a week and he's already improved so much. No more scratching and the wounds are healing really nicely. It's recommended to give 3 doses total at 7-10 days apart for maximum effectiveness. At 2 drops per dose, this big bottle seems like it'll last forever. Much cheaper than visiting the vet.Buy Durvet Ivermectin Pour On 250 Ml Now

This product is an incredibly well-kept secret. A few drops will help rid your chickens, dogs, turkeys, cats, and livestock of a variety of mites, ticks, fleas and internal parasites. It is unconscionable highway robbery the price that most people pay their vets for Frontline and other products. This product is used in Africa on humans for river blindness. So, is it safe for your cat even though it is not approved by the FDA? Well, probably. The dose amount is based on 1 mL per 22 lbs. You reduce and figure from there. A 2 lb chicken gets one part of a cc. A 36 lb turkey gets 1 mL and then some.
Anyhow, this is the best kept secret out there when it comes to parasite treatment in animals of many kinds.I used Plumb's veterinary manual to calculate how much a dog would need to avoid having to go to the vet to get a heartworm prescription. The oral dose is pretty low only 1 drop of this stuff per 50 lbs! The best strategy is probably to dilute it.
