I bought this cage for my syrian hamster Ricco. I loved it he had alot of space. The wheel was too small for syrians its made for dwarf hamsters a mice. I took the tunnel out he didnt like it but he learned to climb up the side and go though the hole. The water bottle doesnt leak but my hamster had throuble using it. I had to put him in an aquarium because he kept chewing on the bars. I moved my mice into it. They couldnt slip through the bars. They love to climb on the sides and use the wheel. I give this cage 5 stars. It also comes with 2 bags of food a food bowl a wheel a water bottle and a small bag of carefresh bedding. Its a perfect cage for hamsters and some mice not all but some. I dont know about gerbils.

Very easy to set up and to clean.

Water bottle does not work, had to buy a new one.

Wheel is kiiinda quiet, every once in a while it will make a wobbly noise whenever my mouse runs very fastly for five seconds or more but nothing to really complain about.

Somehow she escaped once, I think through the second level door the top of the door and the wire frame just above the door had a gap nothing a paper clip rig couldn't fix.

The bag that the bedding came in had a coupon but was expired :(, but it came with a sheet of coupons that were still good through the end of this year.

Came with two bags of food (which my mouse only likes select pieces of) and chew toys (which my mouse completely ignores).

Overall, a great deal I would recommend, just be sure to check for gaps and definitely buy a new water bottle. :) also be prepared to buy lots and lots of bedding.

The cage looks wonderful and after researching is the one we decided on for a new teddy bear hamster. There are a number of structural issues that should be considered when considering buying this item.

1. The lid does not attach securely to the cage, it can easily be bumped off leaving the cage wide open.

2. The water bottle does not have the right angle and/or sits too low in the cage to use without modifying where it enters the cage.

3. The food dish does not snap into place as described, our hamster has found it another access point to climb to the top through the hole underneath.

4. The tube to the top is at a steep incline thankfully our hamster was able to figure it out after a day or so.

5. If you are considering purchasing the travel pod that sits on top of the cage, note that it does not attach to the cage-it just sits in place. It may easily be bumped leaving an easy exit point from the cage.

Overall this cage does not provide a secure worry free environment as we had expected for our hamster. I would suggest looking in to other cages before purchasing this one.

I purchased this in Dec. 2010 for a dwarf hamster. This cage provided a great home for Whiskers until he passed 1 month ago. In the 2.5 years that I owned this cage, we never had any issues with sturdiness or escaping! I did purchase a different tube from Petsmart that fit on just fine...I can't remember why, though?! The water bottle and food bowl worked perfectly. Whiskers loved running around in his cage. He would use the Hamster wheel nightly. It would get squeaky at times and we would rub a little olive oil on it and that would usually take care of the problem. He loved climbing up and down the tube. We did add a little igloo on the bottom and he would bury himself under the bedding in his igloo and sleep in peace. We took apart the cage weekly to clean it. Very easy to clean and reassemble.

Looking to purchase a new hammie and are looking at the bigger Teddy Bear variety. I'm hoping that this cage will work well for a bigger hamster as well...will update later!

I'm giving the cage two stars because it is roomy, and the hamster seems to like it. Other than that, I would not recommend it at all. The water bottle broke on us, and once it was gone the cage became dysfunctional because the weight of a full bottle is what keeps the hamster in the cage. Now the animal has escaped on numerous occasions, as we use trial and error to try to secure him. He is watered from an open bowl, not a good solution but no bottle will fit on the cage. It is hard to re-assemble during cleaning as well; plastic parts are hard to deal with and I worry they will warp and leave us without a cage altogether.

It is too inexpensive; not made with the kind of reliability and practicality that small animal containment demands. I am not pleased that this was basically the only choice in the pet store. Better alternatives are called for, even if they cost a bit more. It's worth it to avoid the midnight hamster searches.
