Did LOTS of research online for dog carriers and there is a lot of garbage out there. This company seems to have the best made products. For my 2 year Norwich Terrier, Teddy, who weighs 16 lbs, this is the answer. Was searching for something for Winter hikes in the woods when the snow is too deep for his stubby little legs and great for our other dog. The sling carrier is an arm/neck killer for a dog his weight for any length of time which we also have. And the kangaroo pouch is just too open and pulled forward for his weight as well. Had read the other reviews prior to buying and definitely think this is dog specific. Teddy just so happens to enjoy being held in this position so it is somewhat natural for him. In truth, have not hiked with him in it yet, but when I put him in it and walked around the house and then asked my husband what he looked like...he was sleeping:) So I don't think a problem especially if the choice is deep snow!

Addendum: January 22, 2013. Finally got to try out and am really satisfied. It definitely takes some negotiating finding his stubby little legs but once he's in he does not complain! It is the most comfortable carrying position I've come across. We hiked in the woods in the snow for a while and then when it was too much for him I picked him up and maneuvered him into the carrier. I think it will get easier as we both get more used to it. I think dogs with spindly long legs may not like and would get cold as well.

I bought this to use on my weekend walks and hikes with my 13 lb Shih Tzu mix rescue dog. I read all of the reviews and decided to try it anyway figuring it was better than carrying him in my arms. I used it around the house a few times to make sure my dog was comfortable with it and all went well. I like all of the adjustable tabs on both sides of the pack and the padded shoulder straps were great. I just returned from a hiking trip with my husband and dog in the PA mountains. I used the pack during a 1/2 day hike and it worked great. My dog was comfortable and so was I even with the dog pack and a backpack. I had several people stop us on the trail to check out my dog and the pack. Everyone thought I had a baby until they looked closer and saw it was my dog. One little boy even asked me "Why are you wearing a dog?" This pack with make it possible for me and my husband to include our dog in all of our outdoor activities without worrying about him getting tired. I did use the chest strap from my backpack to run through my dogs harness to keep him extra secure because he did flop forward a bit in the pack. All in all I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this pack to anyone who wants to take a small dog out for an adventure.

I thought this would be awesome. first one arrived and one of the straps was unstitched from the body of the bag. Sent it back immediately. They were great in getting me a new one but the second was loose in the same spot as the first. I don't think the construction is of very high quality. Very disappointed as I had hoped this would be a great purchase. Won't be buying from Kyjen again. Sad face.

Previously, I said "The upper part of the carrier does not lay close to my chest." I now solved the problem. I clip her harness to the part of the carrier that is on my chest. So the upper part now DOES lay close to my chest and DOES feel secure. My Morky enjoyed her bike trip !

I ordered this and checked the measurements. My 11 pound Shih Tzu Maltese mix does not fit properly. He is too long, the holes for the legs are horribly positioned and it is poorly designed overall. His front legs don't even remotely line up with where the holes are so I have to loosen them until the point of having them on is defeated. The holes at the bottom for his back legs are spaced awkwardly and it is a huge hassle to get his legs into them. There are no straps that run across the middle of the carrier which causes the dog to fall forward and gives the sensation of him constantly on the verge of falling out (that combined with his body being 6 inches away from mine gives him no security). Someone else mentioned their dog falling forward in a review so I tried putting a small rolled up shirt in front of him to make him flush with my body. Unfortunately it didn't work. So, in conclusion I strongly suggest that you do not purchase this product. I would return it if I could. Overall... I would never suggest this carrier.

First, this bone is not made in the USA.

It is way over packaged and this is important to note: it is baked not smoked. A lot of Vets and folks in the know say that smoking is the only safe way to go to help prevent the bone from splintering. My two girls are 100 lbs each and tear through just about anything so what I get them is important for their safety. To keep them from outright crushing the shank of the bone right away I have to get the super-huge femur bones. No other bones with a shank will do. Like pork bones are just plain dangerous for them. Knuckle bones or ones that 'powder' not splinter are ok. NO rawhide!!!

This is a good, large, safe bone. One of the very few Amazon sells. If y'all find a better huge one on Amazon, reply here.

My girls rate this a 3 star on taste and chewability btw.

My cat recently was diagnosed with diabetes, and so I had to stop giving him his treats. I found these online, and the vet thinks they are wonderful for him. They are all meat absolutely nothing else. They can be fed (freeze)dried as is, or can be run under water, which turns them into a beautiful piece of meat! My cat loves them, and I am happy that I can give him treats that he not only enjoys, but also begs for!

I know these are advertised for dogs but its the same product you'd give to cats too. I knew my kitties liked freeze dried chicken and turkey but I didn't realize how much they'd LOVE chewing on the big chunks of freeze dried goodness! I would totally purchase this product again and I know my kittens would love if I did too. Simple ingredient...nothing else added. Pure natural product. Couldn't ask for more.

I was very happy to find this product for several reasons. I have 3 spaniels, a cocker and 2 cavaliers, and they love having a chew in the evening. It's been getting very expensive when 3 dogs have 1 chew item every evening, so I was looking for something that lasts. My newest adopted dog likes cow ears (the other 2 dogs wouldn't touch them), and since he likes them the other dogs decided they would chew on them also. But the dogs still preferred smoked tendons I've been buying. So I was excited to find smoked cow ears, I've never seen these in TN where I live. I ordered them and they are a hit! The dogs can chew on them all evening and you can hardly tell. I will alternate these with other chews but it's so nice to have this option. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the shipping cost, shipping costs double the cost of the order. (I don't know why I am labeled as living in Atlanta, GA--I live in Chattanooga, TN)

These bones are my dog's absolute favorite. He is a SUPER strong chewer, although he only weighs about 60 lbs and is otherwise completely gentle. It's sometimes hard to find bones and toys for him since he always chews them to bits within 5 minutes. These bones last him forever, at least 3-4 months at a time. He loves the filling and will lick it for hours. Would recommend these bones to any large dog owner.

I have a mix beagle-(that can literally destroy and eat thru almost ANY toy/bone out there) we have had a number of different chew toys and bones to occupy our baby Razz over the past 3 yrs and she eats thru and destroys everything with-in 24 hrs (except for the soup bones we get from the meat dept at supermarket). They all leave messes and are disgusting to even touch...this Redbard filled bone is AMAZING!! Rcv'd it May 23rd and she went nuts before I even opened the box from Amazon! We do make her keep this for 'bed-time' in her crate, but she actually tries to get in her crate to get to it and she sneaks it out and tries to hide from us and chew on it. I have never seen anything like it. She is not the most disciplined dog I have ever owned, but will listen to just about any command if she thinks she can have this treat! Will def be ordering this again. Did I mention she has barely even put a dent in it and there is NO MESS at all--no left over pieces to step onno slime feeling when i pick it up either. She spends several hours a day chewing it too!

I've bought a lot of different chews for my pup, a 10 month old Dutch Shepherd mix weighing 60+ pounds, this has been the one we agree on the most.

She loves the filling it comes with and it keeps her occupied for long periods of time. Even after she's cleared out the filling I'm able to fill it with peanut butter and freeze it. Had to for almost a month and she still loves it.

PROs:

Clean

Long lasting

Reusable

No choking hazard unlike rawhide chews

Doesn't smell

CONs:

Heavy and continuous dropping on hardwood floor is really annoying to both me and probably the neighbors. Only let her chew it on the rug

Dog farts increase in number and intensity

I love this bone so much!! I bought it for my 4 month old dobie when he was teething and he is almost eight months and has just barely been able to chew the sides down a little. He will pick it up to throw it around since he has no manners and still plays with his food ;) and it doesn't break or crack. Only time consuming bone I will ever buy. I tried kong and puzzle toys for treats but he loses interest to quick. But he works at this for hours before getting tired.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program

I have "joint-custody" of a small Yorkshire Terrier (named Bella) and she has a little problem with tartar build-up around her tiny teeth. I try to brush them on a regular basis by she doesn't like the process very much. I was hoping that this product would work for her in addition to the toothbrush. However, before I can judge whether it helps or not, she has to like them. In this video review you will see how Bella and her BFF, Ginny, react to the FunBites FlatStick.

I made a mistake in the video which I didn't catch until I posted it. I accidentally refereed to the bags closure mechanism as "Velcro" when it is obviously a zip-lock type closure. Sorry about that. I hope that this review is helpful to you.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program These FunBites are pressed rawhide (not regular, traditional rawhide). I feel safer giving pressed rawhide, because I have found regular rawhide to be a choking hazard with a dog I had in the past, so the "pressed' part is a plus in my book. However, there is a shiny coating over the treat. Doesn't look very good.

My 30 lb dog ate one right away, but my mom's dog was standing right by Haley and she is very protective, so that may well be the reason. My mom's 10 lb dog took it, took one bite of it, and dropped it on the floor (he is normally a little pig but still wouldn't eat it). Her 15 lb dog wouldn't even take it from my hand. My neighbor's 12 lb dog took it, chewed some pieces off, but dropped the pieces on the ground and wouldn't eat them.

SO, only 1 of the 4 dogs I gave these FunBites to would actually eat the treats, and I still think that was out of possessiveness. I don't think that bodes too well for the FunBites treats. Can't say I would recommend them to anyone.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Wandrdog, my 25 lb. frisky mutt is a fairly picky eater but she does like her treats. She loves to gnaw rawhide bones.

She ate the first stick of FunBites as if it were a candy bar. She cracked it into small pieces and swallowed them. There was no gnawing or much if any chewing involved. So much for teeth cleaning.

The next day I performed a highly scientific experiment. I held one FunBite in my left hand and a Dogswell Vitality Chicken Breast Jerky Strip Dogswell Vitality Chicken Breast Treats (15 oz) in my right hand. Wandrdog looked from FunBite to chicken jerky strip and then up at me to see if I was kidding. As this was a scientific investigation, I maintained a neutral expression. Wandrdog licked her lips then ripped the chicken jerky strip quickly from my fingers and retreated to gnaw in private. I stood in the kitchen still holding the FunBite in my left hand, waiting for Wandrdog's return. She did not return. I went to look for her. She would not look at the FunBite when I offered it to her. I got the point.

I think these FunBites would work best for very small or miniature dogs with small teeth.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The name sounds contradictory, or even menacing. Just kidding. My 13 1/2 year old cannot eat bones anymore. They play havoc with her digestion. She is getting one of these FunBites a day. She enjoys them as her regular food does not provide any challenge. These are not your traditional raw hide chews. They are more workable and have a nice boost of dicalcium phosphate and calcium bicarbonate. Don't worry, these are not the troubling additives you will find in food products engineered for focus groups. They are working therapies to have on a daily basis as a supplement.

They help keep her old choppers cleaner. If your dog has build-up, do not rely on these to correct the problem. Get a dog tooth brush. Do not use human tooth cleaners because they are engineered to appeal to people for that hard working fresh and clean taste and sensation. Dogs hate that. If you do not like the idea of brushing, the vet will do it. But it is good to pay attention to the mouth especially as foods are softer and dogs are living longer. And FunBites help along the way. One a day is enough. They are cow hide, so dogs get some protein and fiber. Rice and flour are binders to help it all work together. These tasty FunBites are made in Mexico.

Woof! Alright I'm coming...)

This is the 3rd time I am purchasing these Bully Sticks. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I bought them to find out how big they are and that there really are 3-4 in a package. They are 12 inches long and last my dog a long time. I have a Golden Doodle Shih Tzu mix. She is 7 months old and weighs 25 lbs. She has never been a dog that will eat one in an hour like I read that other dogs will do. A stick will last her about a week. I read in other posts that some sticks from other companies are very smelly. I have never smelled these at all. I would recommend these and I continue to purchase them. I think they are a great product at a great price.

As a follow-up I did notice there was an odor to the next group I purchased. It is not like I read others say that it is horribly offensive you have to be in the right place to smell them. Also this batch came with 5 to a package.

I just keep buying these. My dog loves them and I think they are a great value.

I own a Pitbul/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who will eat almost anything who loves these treats. However I am also long term dog sitting a German Shepard/Golden mix who ONLY will eat dog food and carrots no treats. When I brought these home today I wasn't expecting Duke to give them a second look, however he wolfed one of these down and was looking for seconds. I was tempted to try one myself read the ingredients I'm sure it's better for you than human beef jerky. CCP has another home run here.

Well I guess it should be more on Snoopys thoughts since I didn't personally try them. Sorry, not going to go out on that limb and eat doggy treats! Snoopy received some Sliders and some Lamb Airy Bites to try out. The Crunchy Sliders® are the extra crispy Sliders® snack for "crunchaholic" canines. These crunchy meaty rounds come out of our ovens looking like well-done grilled mini burgers! They pack a nutritional punch of real Beef or Chicken with our Organic flax and SuperVeggie(tm) blend same as the Tender. Don't be fooled, these are NOT "cookies," they are high protein grain and gluten free meaty rounds like no others. The Lamb Airy Bites are Slow roasted cubes of American pasture raised lamb lung are cut into small cubes, perfect for training! hese treats are most popular with dogs and can be fed to dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds, and lifestyles. They are also nutritionally suitable for cats who enjoy a crunchy snack and even ferrets! Cat lovers have told us that their felines enjoy Airy Bites when broken into very small pieces.

As I stated already I can't give a real review of how they taste simply because I'm not a dog or eat dog food. I can however take a wild guess and say Snoopy loved the treats/food based off how he was jumping up and down for them and kept licking his lips after trying some. Since we do have cats as well as pet rat I let them try it as well. The cats were quite curious, sniffed them and even licked them, but weren't interested in it. The rat on the other hand seems to be having a feast with them but wouldn't hold still for a picture! In the end, it's 50/50 in our house on the treats. The dog & rat love them, the cats on the other hand are happy with their typical cat food and treats. My conclusion is that these are quality food products for my pets and I feel great allowing them to have it!

So, I have a beagle. She's a perfectly lovely little dog, but can be quite hyper at times. Ok, more than hyper, she can be crazy. Particularly when the rest of the family comes in in the afternoons. She jumps all over them, runs in circles around the house, and takes a good hour or so to return to non-frenzy state. I gave her one of these little calming treats today and voila, no jumping, no running. She was still her normal happy self and has been playing as normal, she just isn't wound quite so tightly after having the treat. She accepted the treat willingly without me having to hide it in anything. (But if I am to be completely honest, she is not the most discriminating eater, so make of that what you will.)

Bought these for my 3 year old, 90lb chocolate lab (field breed, not english breed... aka the super crazy labs). Had to leave her unattended in a friend's house while we went out to a soccer game, and have used them SPARINGLY when we visit friends and she needs to be mellow for a few hours (despite walking her, playing fetch and dog parks, she will still jump around and get into everything).

When she eats them, she tends to be very mellow and more likely to nap than whine, bounce around, or otherwise get into everything. I would give this 5 stars, but I really dislike the idea of medicating a dog for its natural behavior/energy/curiosity on a regular basis. She is a lab they have a ton of energy naturally. Also beware the energy spike when these wear off. Your dog will want extra attention/exercise when these wear off.

But if you need a mellow dog in a pinch (leaving them unattended in a strange place, visiting dog-shy relatives or friends, these will work. Just follow the directions on the bag and don't give them too much.

For the last two months, we've shared our house with a now 17-month old Weimaraner rescue. Like all adolescent Weims, he is sneaky, stubborn, exuberant and...sensitive. Like many rescues, he is still working through the effects of what came in the three homes he lived with before ours, including three months in multiple dog foster homes. So. sometimes even after lots of exercise, patient training session and 24/7 tenderness, his edginess remains. These calming chews work very well for us.

When we give one of these after his evening meal, he becomes much less agitated. As a result, we can watch a movie without constant interruptions, and the cat can enter the room without the dog springing into full speed action. I don't think there's any placebo effect since the "patient" is a dog(or maybe we're just more relaxed after he takes it in anticipation of its calming effects)...and it calms him down.

Bottom line: after taking this, we enjoy calming experience for *every* member of the house.

Our small 12 year old Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix gets dog really excited every time we take the 3 hour trip to our vacation home. She starts stressing while we pack the car like she knows where we are going and she doesn't want to be left behind. We go about once a month and she pants almost the entire way, driving me crazy. We have given her these to her 3 times and each time about 10 minutes later she is calm and then goes to sleep for most of the trip. It's great! She is not doped up and likes the taste very much. I highly recommend these.

SEE UPDATES BELOW!!!

This is one of four calming products from Pet Naturals with the same dosage ratio of key ingredients per ten pounds of pet weight: only the size of the soft chew varies in three and the fourth is a liquid. ALL WORK BEAUTIFULLY on our four pets and better than the compounded (& expensive) drug amytryptalline (sp?) prescribed by our vet. The liquid may have a convenience advantage, especially for pets whose weight falls in between the listed weight categories. The liquid is more expensive, however, and would have to sell for about $14 to equal the serving cost of the larger chews. Most economical is the product for medium-to-large dogs ($6-$7 for 21 chews) but requires slicing the chews into smaller bits (completely doable, by the way) for pets under about 40 pounds to get portion sizes to match the manufacturer's recommended dosage. I surmise that the manufacturer's recommendation is based on the worst-case scenario (sensitive pet and acute stressful situation). For less taxing situations/pets it would be entirely reasonable to begin with a milder dose (say half or even a fourth) and work up to an effective level. We have four 10-pound pets, two of which have aggression issues: one out of jealousy and the other defensiveness; the third is skittish and over-excitable; the fourth (the mom-cat) is generally cool but gets a little frayed by the others' behaviors. I slice the larger chews into about 20 bits and add a bit to each of the two protagonists' three daily meals. This gives me about 7 dosage-days per cat per chew rather than 4 days at the recommended level.

SPECIAL NOTE ON DOSAGES: See my review of either RENAFOOD or RENAL ESSENTIALS for more information on the RELIABILITY (including label dosages) of supplement products.

This smaller dosage regimen seems to work just fine for these behavior issues for these pets. I may try reducing the dosage even further after the two antagonists have achieved a noticeable attitude adjustment. The product does seem to work better on the jealous/aggressive pet better than on the defensive one. I had noticed this same phenomenon with my DIY herb mixtures (chamomile, peppermint, fennel, ginger, etc.). They seemed to have more effect on the pet with genetic/developmental aggression than on the one with learned/protectionist aggression. The Pet Naturals formula, however, works noticeably better on both pets than my homemade concoctions ever did (Well, just as good and it tastes worlds better, say the pets). ONE NEGATIVE: The liquid is 3.8 oz not 4 oz. as advertised. Small but unnecessary discrepancy. MORE POSITIVES: the pets LOVE the product; it is non-addictive; and (naturally!) natural. The only time it is not effective in calming the pets is after they get a good whiff of the stuff and before you can give it to them. During this interval, THEY GO ABSOLUTELY NUTS. And STAY NUTS until the aroma (and product) is out of range of their senses. IRONIC, huh!! According to the people at Pet Naturals the product has no dependency issues and the ingredients are completely "natural". The colostrum is the bovine variety and said to be hormone free. I did not ask (I did not WANT to know) how they harvested this natural colostrum. Also per Pet Naturals, the calming effect takes about 30 minutes to engage and lasts about 4-6 hours. Again, I suspect this is based on the more intense end of the stress/anxiety spectrum. In our case, the "bits" of reduced dosage last from meal to meal, which is at least 8 hours (and sometimes a little longer--I know, the pets think we are irresponsible too!). We have only had one bad fight since starting the regimen about two weeks ago and it was CAUSED BY the product!! (retraction later). We were comparing products with the pets in the same room (same bed!) and our jealous one got a whiff. She got very excited and persisted in pursuing the aroma thru the closed containers. This apparently broke the calming power of her meal "bits" and within a half hour she ambushed her favorite target sibling viciously (well, it sounded vicious). So WE were the CAUSE of this attack, NOT the Pet Naturals. Had we given our keen-sensed one another small "bit" (and put the stuff away quicker) she probably would have settled back down and resumed her repose. CUSTOMER SERVICE at Pet Naturals deserves accolades as well. I spoke to two reps there (one actually in sales) and both were just EXCELLENT; probably the best customer service experience I have had that I can remember (should I mention my memory loss problem?). They actually sounded like they were enjoying helping and they actually did with their knowledge of the product and with actual experience in using the product. For instance, they knew the "user satisfaction" level that the product designers shoot for: namely a minimum of 80% and that their products typically achieve a 90% user (pet) acceptance level. In our case, it is 100% (& possibly 110%). I am also testing the liquid formula as a flavor enhancer for appetite-challenged pets. So far the aroma of the calming liquid (and the "bits") is easily lost when mixed with food (even dry nibbles) or water or chilled. I generally feed our pets dry nibblers floating on about an ounce of water. One of our pets has renal failure and the accompanying diminished appetite. Adding the "bits" or liquid drops to her food does not seem to improve her appetite level. I would have expected a dramatic effect based on how appealing the products are to our pets if fed to them out of hand. I am not through with the "enhancer" experiments yet, so I may add to this review later if I have something new to report. I am also testing other calming alternatives, one in particular from VETS*BEST, and will compare the products when I write a review on this other brand. There are still other brands of calmers out there but, having found some that work for us (and at an affordable serving-cost), I do not plan to check these others out. So if anyone could extend the product comparisons by bringing in others they have used in side-by-side trials with Pet Naturals or Vets*Best it would be immensely helpful to future seekers of pet (and human) calm.

UPDATES: 1) This review was last updated on January 18, 2012 and JANUARY 2, 2013, to add a note on a NEW (and EVEN BETTER VALUE) PN product and a few details. 2) The promised review of VETS*BEST TRAVEL CALM is now available. 2)I finally found some flavor enhancers that are effective and summarized the results of my search in a review of CAT-MAN-DOO BONITO SPRINKLES. 3) I recently discovered a FIFTH PN CALM product that represents the BEST VALUE to date: CALM XL for dogs over 75 pounds. Currently it has about 3-times the amount (8 oz) of the package for medium-to-large dogs at about twice the price. And, like the other "dog-bone" shaped PN products, it can be sliced or ground for matching the serving size to the size and needs of the pet.

Several years ago, Kaytee Fiesta Ferret Food contained dried fruit. Dried fruit ferrets are incapable of digesting, which offered no nutritional value and posed choking and intestinal hazards.

With the redesigned Kaytee Fiesta Gourmet Ferret Food, they've at least banished the fruit to the garbage bin where it belongs--but this still ain't good food. Ferrets are obligate carnivores. An ideal ferret diet has as much meat and as little grain as possible, which is achieved by one high-end ferret food (entirely meat-based kibble) and admirably approached by several other premium ferret foods (meat-heavy blends with a minimal amount of corn).

Kaytee's offering falls into neither of these categories, being absolutely lousy with cheap fillers. Most foods use corn as a filler. If you read the ingredients list on the Kaytee, on the other hand, seemingly every other ingredient is a filler: Ground corn, rice, dried beet pulp, soy flour, corn gluten meal, oat meal, wheat middlings, dehulled soybean meal, ground wheat... And that's just the first 9 fillers.

If you want a happy, healthy ferret, this is not the food for you. On a quality ferret diet, your ferret will eat less, be happier and healthier, and make less stinky, erm, "presents" for you.

I have owned two ferrets for 5 years now, only feeding them Zupreem, 8 in 1, and one other random food. I have always ensured that they only receive the best care and food and they have been very healthy. During one food refill, I picked up a 2.5lb bag of Kaytee, figuring that it looked tasty and any nutrition deficiencies in the food would have a minimal effect since it was mixed with over 10lbs of other food. Unfortunately, shortly after switching foods, both of my ferrets have been showing significant health problems. The vet was completely stumped and only after looking into the ingredients in the Kaytee food have we concluded that this is the cause of our woes. Please, for the health of your ferret, please stay away from Kaytee at all costs.

good price and the ferret loves it. she devours it better then the high priced marshalls food. and has actually gained some weight on it instead of looking skinny from the marshalls food. Kaytee food is great stuff i feed my birds their seed also and the birds love it.

I have been using the fountain for a few weeks now.

It holds 2.5 gallons of water, I use bottled water to fill it because that's what we drink, so I'm not worried about the filter replacement. In fact.. I don't think the filter is all that useful or purposeful. (A regular charcoal filter that the water flows around) honestly.. I don't think I'll every buy a replacement.. using bottled water as I said I feel it's not really necessary!

Once a week I clean it out.. I did not buy the cleaning kit, again doesn't seem necessary. I use the hose sprayer on my small kitchen sink to turn it upside down in and spray every crack & crevice with our hottest tap water setting for a few minutes. Works great, no scrubbing necessary.

The flow rate adjustment is great too.. fast flow or slow.. .the slow setting makes the least water trickling sound, we don't even hear it, and the fast is like any soothing home water fountain.

2.5 gallons lasts our pack of 2 medium 1 large dogs, and 2 housecats about 1 week.. I may add a little to the bowl before the week is over now that its summer but not much. I let it run down a bit low and then clean it.

I would recommend buying it, and may buy another for our covered outside area as well.

We have 3 Scottish Terriers and they LOVE this thing! Scotties love fresh, running water to drink, but don't like getting water in their face. With this fountain, they get the fresh, filtered water they like, without having to worry about it getting in their face. The filter also helps clean out the debris they bring in on their beards! The large reservoir means I am not constantly refilling their water dish. I would highly recommend this product.

I've been very pleased with this fountain. I placed it beside my "Catit" cat fountain, which needs refilling less often now-I'm assuming because my big dog prefers the Big Dog fountain. My cats also like it, sometimes to drink from, sometimes just to watch. I like that it holds a lot of water. It's a bit noisy, I hear the water running all the time, that might bother some.

We've had this thing about a week now. It's definitely got our older dog drinking more water, which is why we got it.

It's not quite as great as I hoped, though. For one thing, I don't see why they didn't make the reservoir larger. We still have to fill the thing up once a day or so (though we'd have to do this at least as often with our old water bowl). They could have easily doubled the size of the water reservoir without making it awkwardly large.

For another thing, the water tastes good to our dogs, but it looks kind of unappealing. I somehow hoped that since the water was pumped through a filter continuously, it would be crystal clear. It's free of hair, but it has an enormous floating island of drool on it. The problem is that the water intake for the recirculation is on the bottom of the basin, but since drool floats on the surface, it just builds up until you skim it off or clean the thing out. I'm sure they could have designed it so that some of the water intake came from the water surface. But like I said, the dogs don't mind. The water is much less gross than our water bowl would get (besides the floating drool island).

The third thing about it that could be better is that it's not super quiet, even on the slowest setting. It's not that bad though; we have it in the kitchen, and we never turn the thing off. It's a bit of white noise that doesn't interfere with watching TV in the living room or anything. But if you're concerned about noise, you should be aware it'll make some.

Despite these quibbles, I still give it 4 stars. It gets our dog drinking more water, which is good for him.

One last thing -the instruction manual makes a big deal of cleaning out its various parts weekly. I think buying the brush kit (and some extra filters) to go with it is a good idea, instead of having to go back and have a second set of things shipped to you the next week (if you don't have a pet store local that sells the extras for this thing).

Though this isn't a must have item by any means, we do have a big Golden Retriever (we actually own two Goldens) that has always preferred drinking from a stream of running water (like a faucet or the water pouring from a bottle, etc.) and we do spoil our dogs sometimes... So out of curiosity I ordered this thing. Well when it arrived, I disassembled it and washed everything and then re-assembled... I figured this would be good practice and allowed me to evaluate the design and fit. Filled it with water and turned it on... HUMMMMMM!!! ...LOUD!!! LOUD!!! LOUD!!! this thing hummed sooo loud it could be heard two rooms away and even faintly from another floor. It was Friday evening so I had the weekend to play around with the thing. Everything I tried did nothing to quiet the loud humming of the little aquarium pump motor. I figured this canNOT possibly be right... they've probably sold tens of thousands of these things by now and no way would they have been able to do that if they all sounded this loud. So first thing on Monday I called the seller, who immediately agreed with me that something was not right, it should be very quiet. I was given the phone number of the manufacturer's customer service. After a nice conversation in which they also agreed something was not right with my unit, they sent me out a new motor/impeller at no charge. It took a week and a day to get to me. After I installed the new motor/impellor... TADA!!! no more hum. This thing is very quiet... now all I hear anymore is the gentle trickling of the water stream, hooray! ...its actually a kinda relaxing sound. The moral of the story here is... its not suppose to be loud and if you have a unit that is, just complain and ask for a new motor/impeller.

Bottomline is this is a great product... excellent design and fit. And this Big Dog fountain really is big and holds a lot of water... enough for days without having to refill it. One trick to keeping it cleaner longer is we have a separate SS water bowl next to the food dishes at dinner time so they drink out of that bowl immediately following dinner, that way all the food/kibble junk falls into the stainless bowl which we pick up soon after dinner and dump out. This keeps the Big Dog fountain from fouling up and so we don't need to wash it very often... in fact, we only wash it once every couple of weeks.

I had to rate it at only 4 stars because of the original motor's noise... and thus all totaled, it did take more than a week to get it working properly as it should have... and that inconvenience alone has got to cost it a star rating.
