I have many senior dogs on medications, so cost per pilling is very important to me. This product is great because it doesn't require refrigeration (unlike cheese or meat wrap options), so I can keep it on the kennel room shelf. The ONLY difference between the Cat and Dog varieties of Chicken flavor is the addition of the essential amino acid Taurine in the Cat format (dogs can "make" their own Taurine), so if your cat prefers liver flavor, that would be fine for the tiny proportion of her diet since she's likely getting enough Taurine from her other commercial foods. For my dogs, I buy whichever variety is on sale. The only thing I DON'T like is that it is not shipped by Amazon, and if you only order one cup of it, the separate S&H from Amazon's partner company almost doubles the cost of the product. So, I try to get together with other local pet owners when ordering to share shipping.

I've ordered this product three times now and each time I get a slightly different version.

To me, the product is old and it is hard to pull apart, has very little smell and lacks moisture.

When the product has been "good" it is completely different texture, smell and consistency.

I have 8 dogs ranging from 48 to 80 lbs. This is not only the most economical, but the only one ALL my dogs take. Easy to mold even with pills that products won't stick to. Even my most finicky dog takes it if I put her in her crate and it in her bowl.

The rest all take out of my hand. Sometimes people don't attempt to present it in different ways. I give it a six on a one to five scale!

I bought this because my dog is on a lot of pills and I thought it would be less messy than peanut butter and far cheaper than Greenies Pill Pockets. It is definitely less messy, but my dog was wary of Flavor-Doh and kept chewing it, spitting out the pills. In contrast, my dog went nuts for the Pill Pockets and swallowed them whole. Even better: the Pill Pocket dough is of similar texture to Flavor-Doh and can be divided and remolded around a pill. I was able to get 4 large capsules covered with a single Pill Pocket, capsule-size.

The ingredients differ. #1 and #2 for Flavor-Doh are flour and vegetable oil and they have little smell and 0% protein. #1 for Pill Pockets (chicken flavor, of course) is rehydrated chicken and they have 10% protein.

Last, if you buy on Amazon, which is not the cheapest way to buy, the price for Pill Pockets is far cheaper if you use it as dough. Flavor-Doh, $11.95 for 200 gm; Pill Pockets, 7.9 oz size (224 gm), $6.42.

I started using "Flavor Doh" after trying "pill pouches" which are expensive and inconvenient. It is easy and very inexpensive to use especially when daily medication is necessary. I just dip some out with the capsule and stick another small pill on the tip and "Duke" gobbles it down. He runs to me when I tell him it's time for pills. Duke is a 6 year old toy poodle.
