It keeps his weight down (he's an 11 year old Cocker) and he seems to love it, though I'm not sure that he likes any more than anything else, but it does seem to help with weight.

DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR DOG!!! I started feeding my very healthy retired greyhound Wilber, Beneful Healthy Weight dry dog food because my vet said he was getting a little heavy. Mind you he had just passed his annual wellness vet check with flying colors a few months before. He ate the Beneful HW for a while fine, then he started to lose his appetite and developed a little hacky cough. When the vomiting started I took him to the vet. They asked if he had gotten into anything poison like antifreeze. I checked in the house and yard and he hadn't. They gave him something for nausea and said to feed him just chicken and rice diet for several days and he should be fine, probably just a stomach bug. I fed him the chicken and rice I cooked and he got better.

After a few days I started feeding him the Beneful HW dog food again and once again he started to lose his appetite and developed a little hacky cough. When the vomiting started again he threw up 5 times in 4 hours. We went back and forth to the vet over the next few days. They gave him antibiotics, force feed him and gave him IV fluids and he continued to get worse. My regular vet and the vet at the Animal Emergency Hospital kept asking is he had gotten into anything poison. I said no I was sure. He stopped eating, became weak, had a high fever, drank a lot of water, urinated a lot, his kidneys shut down , pancreas shut down and he started to bleed out and had a seizure. He was in so much pain and was not getting better. I finally had to put him to sleep.

I wish now that when I stopped giving him Beneful and changed to other brand of dog food. I have no proof but it seems odd that so many others have had similar problems with Beneful. I never thought it could have been the food.

Not kidding. My dog was getting seizures about 6-8 months after we started feeding him this food because our other dog ate it. He had never had seizures before in his life. we didn't even know it could be the food until a friend mentioned it (THANK GOODNESS!). Now, we have switched to Science Diet and he has not had ONE seizure since. This was the only change we made in his diet and lifestyle.

I will NEVER use any purina product again. DO NOT BUY!
