After several years of getting inconsistent and less than satisfactory results from various groomers, I decided to look into learning how to groom my Yorkie myself. Fortunately, I found Lena Vinzant's excellent DVD, which covered everything I needed to know, starting with an overview of basic equipment and supplies needed to get started, including information about how to select the appropriate blade and comb guard size for the cut you want to do, which can be a bit confusing for beginners. Ms. Vinzant then breaks down the grooming process into sections explaining and demonstrating "sanitary" care, footpad and nail clipping, tooth brushing, ear cleaning, expression of anal glands, bathing, eye washing, and blow drying. She then fully demonstrates three separate styles of Yorkie cuts (classic full coat, Westie cut, and summer cut or puppy cut -all with the use of a VERY feisty little male Yorkie named Timpleton. Ms. Vinzant demonstrates techniques for holding your dog during each step of the grooming process to make things easier on both you and your dog. I found her tips on how to use the electric clipper and the curved shears especially helpful. The DVD is quite long. I didn't time it, but I think it ran somewhere around three hours, so you really get a lot for the money. In addition, Ms. Vinzant has a website where you can go for additional support and for links to sources she has already researched to find the best prices on the equipment she recommends. Altogether, I got much more than I expected with this purchase and highly recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to get started grooming their Yorkie at home.

I learned a lot about how to groom my little Yorkie from this video. I appreciated that Lena used a Yorkie who had never been groomed to demonstrate how to handle feisty protests. If she hadn't done this I might have given up! Also, I had some questions after viewing the DVD and Lena was kind enough to respond and answer them.The video is not perfect in terms of videography quality (so I'm reviewing as a 4), but I'd trade this any day for the bare bones information.
In short, my first groom came out way better than I'd hoped and I wholeheartedly recommend this video!This DVD is very helpful. She worked on a yorkie similar to how my yorkies MOVE all over. Showed tips on how to talk to them, handle and hold them. Showed us how to groom them using our own kitchen table and sink. Showed 3 haircuts. Prompt shipping. Lena,
I couldn't wait to get your DVD and it is the best one I've seen. I really appreciate that you used the little guy "Templeton", he's like most Yorkies that wiggle and now I feel like I can do my 18 month old Sophie. I now have the knowledge and confidence to start grooming her, and the money I save can help with her vet check-ups and heart worm and flea meds she needs every month.
