When I first saw this contraption, I was skeptical; but since I got it for $1.99, I figured if it didn't work I wouldn't be out much. This was a nice surprise. I was expecting it to be blue, but the one I got is a pale yellow. At first, my budgies, Jake and Stella didn't pay much attention to it. Honestly, I think Jake may have been a little afraid of it. When there was no activity with the holder after a few hours, I tried a new tactic. This thing works much better if you cram two millet sprays into it instead of one. It pushes the sprays up against the sides of the basket and makes access to the seeds much easier. Once they get the hang of eating out of it, the holder works great. It also solves the problem of Stella ripping the sprays apart for sheer entertainment. She would tear at the stem until it was completely bare, eating little or none of the seed. Poor Jakey didn't used to even get a chance to eat any of the millet, unless he picked it out of the bottom of the cage. This thing slows Stella down considerably and she doesn't guard it from Jake the way she would a bare spray. A great solution if you have a millet monster like I do!

One of my zebra finches got himself trapped upside-down in this holder after climbing in from the top, trying to get at some leftover millet inside. He wedged himself so far in that he had trouble breathing and couldn't get himself out. I had to cut the holder apart to get him out. Since finches can die if they can't get to food during the day, this is a dangerous holder to leave in a cage unsupervised!

Get a smaller one if you have finches. Or better yet, just clip the millet to the side of the cage.

These work well for the finches, but not for me. My finches really enjoyed these but oh those husks, they flew everywhere! Since I have 12 finches, it's important for me to find ways to reduce the flinging of the husks and this is not what I want to use. My millet now sits in a fairly shallow tupperware bowl and works fine. Perhaps for others this will work, but not for me.
