When I had heard enough about dogs getting sick or dying after eating Chinese chicken jerky, I went looking for products made in the US and found this and have ordered several 1 lb bags. When fewer and fewer vendors were listed on amazon and the price quadrupled from my last purchase, I called the manufacturer to see if they had stopped making the product. The person said no, they had reformulated it so I waited for that to show up. Now it has so I went back to the manufacturer's web site to see what they changed.

I was appalled by what I found. From my bags of the old product here is a list of the ingredients. Chicken, natural smoke flavor. That's all.

Here's the reformulated product ingredient list: Chicken, betaine, brown sugar, cultured dextrose, sea salt, natural smoke flavor, garlic powder, mixed tocopherols (preservative), paprika extract color, rosemary extract.

I didn't know what betaine was so I looked it up on the net. After reading about it, I still don't know what it is.

The crude protein dropped from 77% to 50%.

crude fat increased from 2% to 5%.

moisture increased from 18% to 28%.

I am not going to give this product to my dog and will make my own chicken jerky in the oven.

Update:

I just went to a new Petco that opened near me. I found a 1 lb package of Colorado Naturals Chicken Jerky Dog Treats. Made in the US.

Ingredients: Chicken breasts, natural flavorings.

Crude protein 70%

Crude fat 3-7%

Moisture 10%

I will be buying these once I use up my old stock of True Chews.

Update 2 (8/17/13):

Since its been over a year since I last looked at True Chews, I decided to see if they've changed their product. Yes they have:

Premium Jerky Cuts

Ingredients: Chicken, Vegetable Glycerin, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Natural Smoke Flavor, Paprika Extract Color, Garlic Powder, Mixed Tocopherols (Preservative), Rosemary Extract.

Crude Protein: 40%

Crude Fat: 9%

Moisture: 28%

I've ordered Colorado Naturals bags several times from the Petco web site and am very pleased with how soft the product is and how they haven't changed the ingredients!

I too have rec the new formula for the True Chews chicken jerky fillets. It's smells horrible and looks more like jerky than dried/compressed chicken fillets. I will not buy this product again. I guess I will have to start buying Smokehouse. Beware, Smokehouse products may show made in USA (front of pkg) made in China (on back of pkg). There are Smokehouse products that show USA on both front and back. If your looking for USA always check the pkg both front and back.

These were brought to my attention by the sales clerk at Petsmart. Her dogs likes them and she told me that they

Finally, a dog treat made in the U.S. that's made me and my Wheaten very, very happy. I just wish that this product was easier to purchase, as the popularity of U.S. made products for dogs has made these True Chews difficult to find, even on Amazon. Until about six months ago, True Chews, made by Tyson (yes, the same company that makes food for humans) were exceptionally hard and difficult to tear into pieces. The company obviously listened to consumers and changed the formula so that these treats are much easier to break and my dog seems to like these as much as the previous jerky. I'd like to give this product a 5+.

We have a 126 lb Bernese Mountain Dog. He is addicted to Checkups. He will sell his soul for a "white bone." I buy them at Costco for approximately $12 for the 24-count bag. Your prices are a bit steep.

Learned about these treats from a friend who has two rescues -a 65 lb.pit bull mix and a 50 lb lab mix. The Checkups are really excellent for helping to keep the dogs' teeth clean and better yet, the dogs -two shelties, 8 yrs and 2 years old -love them. They each get 1/2 a checkup bone before bedtime. The treats are also wheat-free and very digestible -eliminating two issues that have caused serious problems for dogs in the past. Even better, during our dogs' last two annual health/dental checkups -the vet did NOT recommend we bring the dogs in for teeth cleaning. In fact, their teeth were given the "look pretty good" comment.

Alright so about 3 months ago I asked my vet how much a dog teeth cleaning would cost me. Because the dog would have to be put under anesthesia, she said total would be about $350. Pretty steep but I thought I should give my dog a cleaning since he was in need of one. Last month I called in to make the dental appt. and was surprised to hear their prices have gone up to $550....c'mon people, I love my dog a lot but in today's economy $550 is a lot of money, certainly almost more than a car payment. I stumbled on these Checkups at my local Costco and have been using them for a week. I am AMAZED at how well these work!!! In just a week I have noticed a real drastic reduction in plaque buildup and in the bad breath. I highly recommend these, my dog loves em so much, it's his special treat and at the same time it's helping his teeth and the bad breath issue. Can't beat that, and the Costco price is awesome! Try these.

I stumbled upon these at Costco several months ago. I'm glad I bought them!

My German Shepherd loves these treats. They are perforated and can easily bend in half. I was afraid she might reject these since she was raised on Greenies, but she loves Checkups just the same. Her teeth are very white and she never has bad breath. They are also made in the USA.

My dad bought these from costco for my two bulldogs. Just recently Liam (my male bulldog) started acting funny; he was throwing up and acting very lethargic. I did not think much of it until he started throwing up non stop. A rush to the vets and he got some liquids and an anti naushia injection. He got back home and seemed much happier but 3 am rolled around and Liam started throwing up everywhere again but this time his vomit included blood. We rushed him to the emergency vets and they took x rays and a blood test. Liam's x rays showed that his stomach was filled with air and his intestine was horribly swollen; his blood glucose was extremely low which often is due to infections and a foreign body. When I saw the quote for the price of the operation I almost passed out but my little bully deserves the best. The next day he was scheduled for surgery but things got only more complicated when Liam threw up as he was being put under causing him to inhale his own vomit (the doctor was extremely concerned that this would cause pneumonia. Luckily Liam's surgery went well and the vet was able to cut the intestine and take out the obstructing object. When I saw the object I was devastated and angry. The checkups dental dog treat was a putrified mess that was so hard it felt like rubber. I wanted to make sure it was a checkups so I cut it in half and sure enough the inner color was a light cream (ps I could barley cut the NON digested checkups treat because it had become extremely rubbery and ridged). I was extremely angry that the information on the check ups bag was not really truthful because I would have never given them to my dog knowing that they really dont digest all the way/are not 100% soluble. A banana is 100% digestible...while you would not want your dog swallowing it in large chunks, if he/she did it would not be the end of the world as it would digest...Checkups are far far far far far away from being digestible like a banana. I thought it was crucial that I share my experience and warn other out there so that they Do Not purchase this product....just brush your dogs teeth instead. I feel so guilty and I feel even worse when i look at my poor dog's stapled stomach....he did not deserve this to happen! (PS Costso was more than willing to give me a refund and file an accident report...they were so helpful!)

I've been feed grain-free for many years, back when Innova Evo seemed to be the only company available at the local pet food store (not big stores like Petsmart). I switched off Evo a few years ago when grain prices increased and never decreased... taking my normal $40/large bag to $44 to $46 and now $50. The knowledgeable owner recommended Taste of the Wild as comparable and much less expensive at $30/large bag. This is much more cost effective for us since we have four cats to feed.

I periodically re-research the state of cat foods to check whether Taste of the Wild is still comparable to the best available brands and it's held steady among the more expensive brands for several years (Innova Evo, Orijen, Wellness Core, etc.) Recently, I did more research and found that wet food/raw frozen food/raw homemade food is the best option for healthy kitties, NOT any kind of dry processed food (although grain free is still better than other substandard brands). However, dry food is still the most convenient for early morning automatic feedings, short trips away from home, and having a backup supply.

This food, both this and the other available flavor, has been fine for the cats. They think it's tasty, don't barf it up (only one cat has issues and it's from scarfing his food in two minutes flat, not the food itself), and it keeps their coats healthy. Their weight seems stable (although the two fat cats stay fat from stealing food and human leftovers), energy levels fine (for an animal that sleeps 16hrs/day), and they're not eating scary junk (which is what I now think of the Iams/Eukanuba they ate before I went grain-free). Handling the food isn't bad, it smells like cat food, but not overwhelmingly gross (some dry kibble can be strongly odorous). The price point is the best plus for me for a dry food.

Regarding other posts about unhappy cats... GRADUALLY introduce a new food. If your animal notices that there's something different or just refuses to eat, you're probably doing it too fast.

Also, I'm not that concerned about the ethoxyquin issue that someone else pointed out (that particular poster is also talking about dog food forums too). Many manufacturers claim that it gets eliminated from the high heat (heavy processing that makes dry food so much unhealthier for cats in general) and others claim that all non-human consumption "ocean fish" get treated with ethoxyquin under US law which dissipates over time, yadda yadda, etc. Basically, there's a lot of talk about it and not a whole lot of evidence that it has any provable effects on animals. Just about everything processed nowadays seems to cause cancer or other horrible things. The non-ethoxyquin foods still mislead consumers (farm fish instead of ocean fish, etc.) or just use human-grade fish, which makes it MUCH more expensive. If you're that concerned about getting the best food quality and absolute healthiest diet for your beloved pet, IMO, you shouldn't be using dry cat food at all.

My cat Sno Ball love this food and I like the fact that it is grain free and all natural. I highly recommend this product but just keep in mind that since most domestic cats are used to processed kitty food, it may take them a while to get used to it.

Since he's been eating this food, I noticed is that it makes his poo smells EXTRA strong. I have a small apt so I almost passed out when I came in the other day and it smelled like he had pood right on the floor when it fact he pood in his litter box and it was covered up. Thats some strong food. He's only been on it for a week so we'll see how it progresses. Maybe his digestive system has to get used to it.

I don't know whether she has a hereditary predisposition to a delicate digestive constitution or whether it was my daughters' Polly Pocket doll clothes, which she has twice ingested and for which she was twice treated by a veterinarian, but my eight-year old house cat vomits when she eats any cat food that contains cereal fillers. What a pain in the rear end! Front end, actually. As my cat's gastrointestinal challenges worsened, it took me a while to identify the source of the problem and then a while longer, through trial-and-error, to find a food she could eat and keep down. Finally, I found it: Taste of the Wild Dry Cat Food.

I'm pretty sure the key is the omission of cereal/corn fillers in the recipe, but I believe there probably is another reason, too. (I'd tell if I knew.) I'd tried other foods with no fillers before, but still had the same problem, although not quite as pronounced. Maybe it's the venison and/or the salmon, which could be more easily digested by cats than other proteins. I don't know. Whatever the reason, I buy only Taste of the Wild for my cat. We adopted another cat from the local shelter near the end of last year, a one-year old, and switched him from Iams (which the shelter uses) to Taste of the Wild. All good; almost six months later, he's flourishing.

No, I'm not an employee, vendor, distributor, or any other person or entity related directly or indirectly to the manufacturer. The stuff is just really good.

My cat has had bloody stools since I brought her home three years ago. Since I started my cat on this food she does not have bloody stools. My vet did all kinds of tests on her but never suggested we go grain free. This food is a lifesaver, I don't think my cat would have had a normal lifespan if this would have continued. Some of the reviews I read said the cat's poop smelled much worse with this food, but we haven't noticed any difference.

After rescuing a kitten a few months ago, I now have 3 cats. Something is wrong with him, but the vets can't figure out what...all tests are negative yet he's losing hair and vomiting. My oldest cat had digestive problems from the start ... I had to force feed her digestive enzymes for almost 2 years just so she could get any nutrients since her body wasn't creating the necessary enzymes... she was 5 years old, very long and only 3.5 pounds! She kept eating and eating, but it just went straight through her in a not so pleasant way. She has been on non-prescription food and medication free for 3 years, but now she has been vomiting occasionally for months and has started getting scabby patches from allergies that just keep coming back.

So between the two of them, I ended up with partially digested piles of science diet in all sorts of places in my house. Thank the heavens for hardwood floors. Wet food? Ha, not a chance it will stay down... and they even turn up their noses at treats these days.

So they've only been on this food for a week (about 50/50 this food and old food)... all vomiting has stopped by all 3 cats, hair is regrowing, scabs are healing and everyone is eating. When switching food I expected there to be some extra vomiting... especially by my older female, but nope not a single incident all week... all 3 adore it, they already have more energy, and seem to be doing well.

I'm THRILLED that there is a grain free dry food formula... I looked into more appropriate diets (aka not 60% carbs) several years ago, but I didn't have the time, patience, or schedule necessary to feed all wet food. So this is great.

I will update after they've been on the food longer. Also can't beat having food delivered to my door (up 3 flights of stairs) without paying shipping.

I love Merrick products because they are all natural with no preservatives. I have two dobermans who suffer from a bit of separation anxiety when my husband and I leave the house, and giving them a little something to occupy themselves for a minute of two when we leave the house helps. These treats are all natural and have no bone fragments in them for me to worry about. They are pricey, but we break one in two, one for each girl and they really love them. One word, though, when the box arrived it was QUITE smelly. I store them in the garage without any problem and the scent seems to have disipated some.

One of my local pet shops sells Merrick products and they are SO much more expensive than buying them here. I highly reccomend these treats as well as the Billy Sticks which will give your pup some nice chewing exercise and help keep his/her teeth nice and clean.

My dogs absolutely love these Quado bones. They chew and chew on these things like its the last supper. The only problem is exactly that; They devour these bones within the hour, instead of it lasting for a period of time. I have large dogs, and one dog took out 2 prongs in a matter of 15 min, completely devoured! At a cost of around $8 per bone, I cannot afford to give these things to my dogs often, as they do not last long enough. But they are crazy over them.

It's a shame that for some reason it says on the package that this shouldn't be eating entirely in one sitting because my dog loves these. It is all I can do to get it away from him so that he doesn't devour it all right away. They must put doggie crack in it, because he is crazy about this chew toy! Just for the record, he DID eat one all at one time and had no ill effects.

I see many of the reviews of this product were for PUPPIES. Maybe they aer good for PUPPIES, but NOT FOR DOGS!! I purchased 6 Quado dog bones. The dogs loved them and devoured them in only an hour. I was disappointed and disturbed that they went so quickly and went back to read the packaging to find a small blurb on the back of the package on the bottom right "Quado is to be consumed over a period of time and not in once sitting or even on day." (1) I paid about $8 for each bone with shipping. This was for a bone which lasted only an hour. I expected it to be a "bone" not a "treat." I could have taken my dogs out to dinner for that price. (2) If the bone is meant to be consumed over time, please make that obvious on the front of the package and not in some small print on the back. It worries me now why they printed the statement on the back.

I can appreciate the fact that they created environmentally-friendly products and trusted that I would be satisfied with my purchase. I buy the best for my dogs despite not being a wealthy person. I bought these bones because the shape is a great design. I expected a bone that would last. I am disappointed. I would requested a refund for my purchase price. I have yet to hear from the company N-Bone.

My two boys really loved these Quado chewies, but I was disappointed that they didn't last longer. They probably lasted 30 minutes. For the price, I thought this was pretty fast.

Want Quado Interactive Dog Bone, 7-Ounce Ginormous Discount?

As much as I love this product, I should start by saying that Quado bones definitely aren't a good fit for all dogs. As many people have commented, it wouldn't take an agressive chewer long to go through one of these, and they aren't exactly cheap, either. But personally, I can't imagine how the manufacturers of this innovative product have failed to highlight the usefulness of Quado bones to a very particular subset of pet-parents: those with mobility impared pets who have a hard time holding onto regular dog bones to chew them.

Pepper was, if you can imagine this, a mix of Pekingese and Border Collie. A bug-eyed, bow-legged, long-haired dog with a bad underbite and a bad attitude to match. Even as a puppy, Pepper was never an especially playful dog. Instead, she preferred long walks and peanut butter flavored rawhides as enrichment activities.

At the age of about 14 & 1/2, Pepper's health and mobility began to suffer. We did everything we could to help keep her mobile and comfortable as her condition gradually deteriorated, but enrichment activities for a cantankerous, mobility-impared old dog proved difficult to come by. In her little "wheelchair", she could only walk a couple of houses down the street before becoming tired, and though she still showed interest in bones, she just couldn't manage to hold onto them to chew anymore. Then one day at a local pet store, I ran across Quado dog bones. I had never seen or heard of anything like this before, and it actually took a minute for it to "click"...for me to realize just what I was looking at and how it could be exactly what Pepper needed. The only size they had at the time was the "ginormous", which normally would be a bit big for a 25-lb dog, but then I also didn't have any smaller Quados to compare it to, so I bought one of the great big ones and crossed my fingers that it would work. I was excited but also fully prepared for the Quado to be yet another flop in a line of toys we'd tried that didn't work out, but it wasn't. Apparently the Quado smelled and tasted good enough to get Pepper's attention, and since it stood up on its own, she had no trouble chewing to her little heart's content. If it happened to get away from her, it was no big deal. It would simply "roll" over, and she'd start chewing a different leg. Even after the first leg had been chewed off, the bone would still "stand" enough to matter with 3 legs. As the bone got down to the last couple of legs she would lose the benefit of the "tripod", and we did often simply discard the last leg. Still, we could find no other product that met her needs nearly as well as the Quado. Price and durability, in this case, were not the most important factors. Having "a bone that stands on its own" was the one and only way Pepper was able to continue to enjoy chewing as usual during the final months of her life, and you just can't put a price on that.

When my 18+ year old cat died, her 17 1/2 year old son completely lost it. He stopped eating and drinking and got really sick with a UTI, URI, and anemia. I tried EVERYTHING to get him to eat and drink Catsure (Ensure for cats), all kinds of cat food, treats, even a prescription appetite stimulant. He even rejected TREATS! So you name it, I tried it (and paid for it!) Finally someone at the pet store suggested CatSip. I didn't think it would work, because nothing was working, but I figured I'd give it a try. Much to my delight, he LOVES it. I give him a little saucer full several times a day and he laps it right up. We go through a box every couple of days. It helps keep him hydrated, gives him some much-needed calories and protien, and I am convinced it helped get his appetite bounch back. Now three months later, he is eating and drinking well. He has put some weight back on and his latest blood and urine tests came back as close to perfect as one could hope for such an old guy. With a lot of love, excellent veterinary care, and as much CatSip as his heart desires, my boy is once again healthy and happy. I cannot recommend this product enough.

I just ordered these for the first time after Amazon stopped selling the brand I had been buying. They are advertised as 4-5 inches, but they are really 3-4 inches mostly 3-3 1/2, and none over 4 inches. Also they are very light, so I think they are basically hollow. I have not, however, taken one away from my dog mid-chew to verify this. My dog seems to be happy with them, but it only takes him a few minutes to finish one, compared to about 20-30 minutes with the previous brand of rawhide bones. I plan to try a different brand next time, rather than buy these again.

I love the Nylabone brand, but not this bone. I have two dogs that will chew on bones all day, and the Nylabone bones were the only ones that stood up to their claims of only breaking off in small pieces. But not this bone. My 16 lb dog was able to eat a 1" piece from the corner of this bone. Also, it is hollow inside, unlike many of the other Nylabones.

Please pick a different Nylabone, don't buy this one if you have a super chewer like my dog!

I have never written a review before but I felt I had to let people know that this bone is NOT SAFE!! As the other reviewers have said it is not solid like most other Nylabones. The end split wide open while our dog was chewing it and she got her tongue stuck! Our dog is a 103lb Great Dane and not even what I'd consider a "power chewer" we really just bought it because the size suited her and it was something new. We've used Nylabones for years and have never had an issue like this before; I did e-mail the company and requested they recall this bone and any others that are similarly constructed.

Luckily my wife and I were there at the moment this occurred and we were able to get the dangerously sharp chunk of nylon out of our dog's mouth, and take the now incredibly dangerous broken Dura Chew Plus away. Dura as in durable? This poorly designed and constructed product needs to be recalled immediately as do any other HOLLOW Nylabone nonedible products. DO NOT PURCHASE!!! . Having been a customer for years, I am very disappointed. Contact Nylabone before purchasing any of their "nonedible" products and ask if they are HOLLOW, as there is no way of knowing by looking at them. Nylabone should be ashamed of themselves. The fact that Nylabone continues to sell the Dura Chew Plus Bone, after similar incidents (as shown by other reviews on Amazon from almost a year ago) proves that they are anything but "The Leader in Responsible Animal Care".

My 60 lb. shepherd mix goes through toys like no other dog I know. He will chew for hours, often disassembling all of the toys for "strong chewers" in less than 15 minutes. He has even dismantled KONG brand balls and treat dispensers (the hard rubber kind)and large rubber tires meant for dogs twice his size. Tennis balls, stuffed animals and all forms of plastic are not safe around him, but this Nylabone has lasted for a month so far, and the edges are only a little rough. Definitely a must buy for anyone whose pet never quits chewing.

I have never had a problem with Nylabone until this bone. It split apart in about 5 minutes. I have a definite chewer that has chewed through everything. The only toys that last have been Nylabone and the Goughnut. I figured this would be a good different toy but it barely lasted.

Plus side is that Nylabone is sending me a different bone. I would highly recommend the regular flavored bones.

I have been feeding my cats Wellness Food for four years now.

What I like most is that, like most of the Wellness line, this Chicken and Herring blend is made without grains. Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they only need meat...in the wild they only get grains in the stomach of prey they eat. If you put grains in food, cats continue to eat until they've had enough protein. So the grain is just added calories for nothing. Since grains are cheaper per ounce, it's a great way to save the manufacturer money, but it's not good for your cats.

In the first year after switching from dried food and lower-quality grain-filled wet food, both my cats lost weight and their fur became softer and shinier. The difference was most evident in my plump, dumb inactive cat; he lost a couple of pounds and went from middle-aged dumpy to sleek and active. He has gotten a lot smarter and is more lively in general.

I also like that this food doesn't have any rendered animal fat or meat byproducts, which are disgusting slaughterhouse waste it is illegal to sell to humans.

As far as how my cats feel, they think this is just okay. They would give it three stars for the smell/taste. They always prefer the cheap stuff, like fancy feast, because it is swimming in rendered fat which smells delicious to cats just like potato chips do to humans. I call it "kitty crack." Cats choose food mainly on smell, not taste, which works great in the wild but not so much with commercial foods where their quality sensor is way off. To get my cats to eat this food at first, I needed to mix it with kitty crack--first only a quarter good to 3/4 kitty crack and gradually building up to 100% over about six months. It's never a good idea to get into a battle of will with cats...first of all, you'll lose, and second it is not safe for them to go more than 24 hours without food because of potentially fatal liver issues.

After the initial break-in period, my cats ate this happily. This is the favorite of both my cats, followed by Turkey/Salmon blend as second favorite. I buy a variety to mix it up nutritionally and to make sure they don't get too fussy. Since they never overeat this, I simply feed them as much as they want...if they ask for more, I give it.

One can is enough to feed one cat per day. This size must be opened with a can opener and stored in between uses. For this reason not as convenient as the 5.5 ounce sizes which you just pull open, but the cost difference over a year is substantial. It's not too much of a pain as on days that aren't too hot I leave this on the counter at room temperature between feedings. If for any reason it's not done by bedtime I put it in the fridge. Cat's digestion is much faster and a bit of bacteria in food is less likely to cause problems.

Cost-wise, these are about $2 a day, and Amazon's price is competitive with big-box pet food stores. When I first started using this, the price seemed prohibitive so I took out the calculator and did a serious analysis. Compared with the Fancy Feast I was buying at a big-box store, per ounce this is a LOT more expensive. But then I realized that since Fancy Feast is packed with grains and junk cats don't need, comparing price by weight isn't fair. I redid the analysis based on daily servings of protein, calories etc. and the two foods turned out identical in cost. It would still be cheaper to feed dried food but if I'm going to go 100% wet the price of this is actually comparable to supermarket foods.

Wellness also sells a Core brand which is even higher quality, but it doesn't come in the larger more economical cans, making it prohibitively expensive.

Note: I read the one star reviews from here. Looks like there have been some quality-control issues with a new plant. I have not experienced this issue...the quality appears the same in the 4+ years I've been buying this. However, I will post if I experience a problem and update my review immediately.

My cat goes absolutely nuts for Wellness Chicken & Herring!! It is grain free and high quality. I've thoroughly researched cat food and this is the best quality at a decent price.

I purchased this cat food after reading glowing recommendations from two or three different cat nutrition websites. One site did offer the caveat that while the quality of this brand was excellent it would not help the cat's diet if he refused to eat it and the reviewer's experience was that some cats would love it and others wouldn't touch it. My cat was somewhere in the middle he didn't love it, but he would sometimes leave it half-eaten and the rest would dry up.

My 8 year old cat is new to canned food he has been fed a diet of 99.5 percent dry food since we adopted him as a half-grown kitten. (The other .5 percent he obtained himself from ferns and the occasional mouse. After reading an article about the nutritional needs of cats, I discovered that our rotund feline was getting too many carbohydrates and not enough protein, and I began adding canned cat food along side his daily bowl of dry food. I have tried a few different brands to find something that suits him.

The Wellness canned cat food (I purchased the chicken and herring formula)has a pate-texture and I think this was my pet's primary objection to it. After trying several different canned foods, I find that he prefers more of a filet in gravy style preparation.

When I first gave this to my cat I simply plopped the chunk of food into his bowl leaving it largely in a solid can-shaped blob. Later, I began to add a half-can of warm water to the bowl and mix it up to make a thinner mush. Using this method, he seems to do fine with it, so I may or may not purchase it again.

Reasonable price and fast shipping for good quality cat food not widely available in grocery stores. This is their favorite of all the Wellness flavors. I have had some of the same issues with dented cans in shipping that others have complained about. No idea who works in the Amazon packing warehouses these days but they are indeed sloppy. No major damage done to date, though, so it doesn't impact my rating for the product.

I've been feeding Wellness canned food to my cats for several years now and have been delighted at the improvements it helped make to their overall health. However, this is a pricey product and of late, they have been putting less of the product in the cans. The difference is being made up with additional liquid.

I'm a sculptor and a gourmet cook so I have a good eye for proportion, volume, and density. The four servings I make by dividing a 12.5 oz can four ways are now smaller in size and my cats are demonstrating the change. Where before, the servings were generous enough that they didn't always finish them, now they finish the servings quickly & spend the time between meals looking for more food (stalking human meals, garbage cans, etc.)

I called to complain to the company and was told there was no change in their recipe and it might just be the difference between manufacturing locations (east coast versus west coast). "The buyers on the west coast like a fluffier product" was the answer as to why the food in the can is so much softer now. I can't blame the poor call rep who, no doubt, had a script to stick to, but BULL. You can still say the recipe hasn't changed while packaging the cans with less food and more liquid. It amounts to the same thing -I'm getting cheated as a consumer and my cats are left feeling hungry after their meals. I'd certainly prefer to pay a bit more per can if their costs are increasing than to have my cats pay the cost.

I'm currently looking around for a alternative no grain, low carb canned food. Considering that several pet food companies have proven to use deceptive practices in recent years, maybe the solution is to give in and start making their food myself.

My dogs absolutely love these. I've tried the maple & sweet potato and the apple versions. They especially love them after a walk. When I ask them if they want a "freezy pup", they know what I mean and run to the fridge! I highly suggest them. I bought a regular ice tray and don't fill them completely up. I can get 12 per pack.
