Kaytee manufactures several lines of value-priced, lower-quality guinea pig (and other small animal) diets that are essentially the same product with a few variations.

Forti-Diet is one such product; it's the first diet I ever purchased for our guinea pigs many years ago. Alfalfa-based (which is not ideal for grown guinea pigs), it's relatively high in fat, low in fiber and vitamin C, and contains a number of less-than-ideal ingredients such as corn, ground rice and artifical coloring. Most concerning, however, is the fact that Kaytee uses the highly controversial preservative Ethoxyquin in all of their small animal diets--something they no longer mention on their website. Kaytee has been 'in the business' long enough to know the concerns of pet owners with regard to this particular ingredient (I have written to them about it myself), and to switch to a preservative with a better safety record.

I gave this product a 2-star rating rather than 1 because Forti-Diet does not contain seeds, nuts or colored bits.

As a sidenote: at the time of this writing, Kaytee has recalled a batch of Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health Mouse, Rat and Hamster due to possible contamination with Salmonella. Not very reassuring.

I have four guinea pigs so I like to order in bulk. The 25lbs bag is perfect for me. The food I had originally been feeding my guinea pigs didn't have enough Vitamin C and other essentials goodies that they need, so I made the switch after a friend recommended it. Don't think I'll ever switch to anything else, this is perfect. It's not like some foods where they get too many treats, (corn, tomato flakes, whatever else they throw in) and its not like some foods where they get no treats. This has big red treat pieces and my guineas adore it. It's a high quality food for a fairly low price. Completely reasonable. And I also get free shipping which literally saves me about $20 every time! :) Love this!

Over all i still find it good to buy personal my guinea pigs love it, and i know it will last a good three months for my 3 year old and my 7 year old guinea pigs ( ) on the pig part of it ;)

If u want alot of food that's good for ur pets its a good buy but if ur one that wants color and a huge brand name this isn't for u but i say buy it!
