I recently got this Kyjen Kibble Drop puzzle toy for our two dogs. We have a 65 lb German Shepherd Dog and a 60 lb Golden Retriever. Both have been learning "nosework" so I thought this would be a fun toy to add to our scenting games. I plan to use it by dropping one yummy treat at a time and having them find and get it from one of the 4 cups.
I'll give you my conclusion first, and then you can decide if you want to read the details below for more info (including size of the toy info).
SUMMARY:
I don't see how this toy could just be put on the ground and left for your dog to get the food out of the cups. Unless you have a very small dog, your dog's attempts will just move the toy around on the floor. For larger dogs (like ours) the toy is way too lightweight and the flaps over the cups are too low to the ground for effective "nosing the flap" technique. In addition, any dog who couldn't nose the flap effectively would need to use her mouth -and would naturally pick the arm up in her mouth in an attempt to get at the treats in the cup thereby dumping all of the treats out of the other cups (hey problem solved!!!). So, that means to play with this, you'd have to be there to hold the toy down/in-place while your dog does the puzzle and gets the treats.
I think this toy would work best (maybe) for a small dog. Kyjen needs to make a heavier and larger sized version for medium or larger dogs.

.... Now, the details ....
First, let me give you some sizing basics about this toy, so you can see if it will be a match for your dog's size. I measured the toy and it's 10" wide. The top of the drop-in treat hole chamber is 4" high. Each arm sticks out almost 4" from the middle dispenser. Each treat cup at the end of the arm is about 2"x2" when you lift the flap. If you look at the very end of the arm, where the flap shuts, the height of the flap edge from the ground is under 1". The arms of the toy obviously slope upwards from the end, so I am talking about the very end of the arm. This is an extremely lightweight plastic toy, weighing in at just 6.2 oz.
Whew, now that all the stats are out of the way... how is the actual puzzle toy?
Initially, I had all the flaps open and just put a treat in an open cup so they could "find" it. They didn't have to open the flaps during that phase. The 2x2" cup size is just adequate enough for them to get the treat out. If your dog is good at licking a treat out, this small size will work fine. If your dogs likes to mouth the treat out, and you have a larger dog, the 2x2 chamber size will likely be an issue. Our GSD was having trouble getting treats out because of this, although she eventually figured out how to cram her nose in there and use her tongue at the same time. :) I would imagine a really large dog would have to be pretty good with his tongue to get a treat out of the small cups.
An issue that appeared right away even with this simple usage was that the toy is SO lightweight it moves as soon as the dog touches it. I had to hold the toy in place or else they would just push it across the floor while trying to lick the treat out of the (flap open) cup. I think Kyjen needs to add some weight to help keep this toy from moving so easily. The bottom has little rubber non-skid feet on each arm, but they do nothing.
So... moving on to the phase where they had to open the flap to get the treat.... There is an issue here. For larger dogs, the flap is so low to the ground, that they can have trouble nosing it up. Our Golden tends to lie in front of what she "finds" when scenting. So, her head was already down on the ground level, which made it easier to work on flipping open the very-low-to-the-ground flap. Our GSD stays standing, though. So, from that angle, she couldn't really use her nose to flip the flap up (although she tried). She also used her mouth to try and open it, pawed at it, etc. I'm sure if I wasn't there to hold the toy from sliding, she would have just picked the whole thing up in her mouth -problem solved! :)
Now you can see why I wrote my summary above. From my experience, this is just the wrong size/weight toy for our dogs. I'll still use it for scent games, because I only need to drop one piece at a time in and I can hold the toy in place for this. But I am not sure how else this toy could be used unless you have a small dog.
This is a hard toy to rate because of these issues. It's a good idea, but the implementation is flawed. Which is why I rated it so low.

My biggest concern was where these came from, which was nowhere to be found in the product description. According to the box they're from the USA, which was important to me! My only complaint is that some parts of the hoof walls are thin, making it easy for my Border Terrier to chew off small pieces and try to eat them. So far that hasn't caused a problem. Here's our story: We have two really sweet dogs we raised from puppies a male Cocker Spaniel and a female King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, both about 4.5 years old. In the evenings we sit together for an hour or so (outside in good weather) while the dogs chew on 2-3 rawhides. They seem to "space out" in that time, content to be "with the pack." For years we could get Exer-Hides Rawhide Twists with Chicken Jerky. They were perfect. Both dogs ate the jerky, and then chewed down the rawhide, slowly and completely. Neither of our pups ever showed any distress or ill effects, but some folks complained that this product was dangerous and harmed their pets. Exer-Hides "chicken chewies," as our two knew them, are gone, alas!
We have been on a hunt for a replacement, and wanted to share our dogs' history to assist anyone in a similar situation. There are many, comparable products, but we have found none so far that gives our dogs the same experience. That said, here's how we rate Alpha Dog Chicken Rawhide Bones: Thought we had a winner here! The first batch we got was almost perfect. They had a balance of chicken jerky to tempt and chewable rawhide to exercise the jaws in a lengthy chew session. As with other Alpha Dog products, these are a bit expensive, but high quality. But, the second batch we got seemed to be made with much harder rawhide. Our two begin eagerly, but abandon the "bones" when the chicken is gone. If your dogs are a bit more aggressive with "chewies," these may be great, but we're still searching for the right stuff for our two.

Not to give too much of a background story so I'll keep it short. Almost a month ago my boyfriend adopted a tabby full grown cat. I came home from work and the two of them were sitting on the couch looking up at me, I was a little shocked but automatically fell in love with her and he already had my love of course!
He already bought her a little box, litter and food; I was definitely impressed. I'm a huge probiotic fan but I never thought about addition probiotics to an animal's diet, but I was game.
She recommended Opti-Probiotic and said that not only could it help with our cat's diarrhea but it will also promote a healthy digestive system in general. We decided to just stick to one alternative so we didn't overload our cat with weird food and drugs. That same day we ordered a bag from Amazon and crossed our fingers, cleaning poop up in the meantime. I got a picture message from my boyfriend with of the package when it came, that's how excited we were! My boyfriend and I were both relieved when she ate the treat right away, now we knew we wouldn't have issues with getting her to eat them. We started her on one chewable a day because of her weight and hoped for the best.
I wanted to wait a decent amount of time before writing a review to see if the product really works but it's been so amazing so far I just couldn't wait any longer. It's been just a couple weeks I believe since we gave Bella (my boyfriend named her) one of the Opti-Probiotic chewable treats and we are proud to say, no more diarrhea or accidents! And a bonus, she's like the kitten we never had! She has so much energy now and plays with every chance she gets. We're even thinking about getting her a friend so she has someone to play with all the time!
We took her to the vet yesterday and she said our little adopted kitty has almost a 100% clean bill of health! She was even surprised by how great her coat looked. I'm not a fan of fishy smelling things personally, so giving the cats a fish-flavored treat ranks about 50th on my list of things I would like to do. But the reaction from them made it all worthwhile.Mack, my cat who isn't that much of a foodie, stood on his his legs and mrowed to try to get closer. Tamir, our girl kitty, had her eyes dilated and her whiskers totally out and ran around in circles a few times in the 8 seconds or so it took to open the package. They REALLY wanted their treats.
While the reaction on the chicken-flavored ones is about a four and the reaction on this one is an all-alarm five, I will likely purchase the chicken one in future, just because I hate touching the fish one, and I also noticed the kitties were liking treat time so much that they kept wondering if perhaps treat time might also come now, and now, and at this other time in addition. But you can see the product does exactly what it's supposed to. The cats love it (it's in big chunks that they can gnaw), I know it's healthy real food with only one ingredient (salmon), and it certainly makes them feel happy and special to get to eat it.

Two of our four cats are allergic to grain. It's bad enough they get mouth ulcers when they get hold of it, so we have to be ultra careful to give them both food and treats with no grain.That's easier said than done when so many companies use wheat, corn, and gluten as fillers.

My wife found one of these mini Hol-ees a brick and mortar store and then we couldn't find another. Store even checked computer and told us they were no longer available. Napoleon, my long-haired dachshund, loves his Hol-ee Roller. And why wouldn't he? Bringing it to me usually results in a delicious reward.This is a great toy for him. He's 14, and I taught him to fetch with this ball that's easy for him to grasp and carry. He never liked Fetch before, because he got tired of carrying things by mouth for more than a few feet.
Now that he understands the concept of fetch, I can ask him to fetch other objects. Hol-ee Roller got us over that training hump. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
Hol-ee Roller has a good bounce and roll. Also, you can stuff it with treats to change things up a little.
He's not a chewer, but I never leave it out when he's not supervised, just to be safe.

We have 2 yorkies and to say they are picky is an understatement.They will on occasion eat the jerky treats, but only if they have
not had them in a long time. Then they fail to eat it all, just chew it for a while.
They won't eat soft dog food ( and really, it does not look very
appealing to me either).
The will munch on dry dog food now and then, however, they eat
baby food most of the time. When they are not eating people food.

Here we are in july of '10. This is still one of three things our yorkies will eat. They eat baby food and my husband BBq's chicken or ground meat on weekends for them when we grill.
I keep dry kibble down for them and give them a vitamin. I try anyway.
This bag is known by sight. If it is up on the counter, they jump to get it. I can't tell you have many things we have tried over the years.
Yes. I do know they are spoiled. But seem healthy now at 10.
There seems to be slight change in texture. These feel dry, as tho you are at then end of the bag. The dogs seemed to notice at first, but they still love them.
If you have one really picky eater, this is a great choice. This would also be a good training tool.

My dog lived for his chicken breast jerky treats until he was put on a strict duck and potato diet due to an inflamed bowel and food allergies. I do not know a whole lot about dog food, but I try to avoid corn because I noticed it makes my dogs stink.
This very much looks like a quality dog food in its texture, from the ingredients listed, and the fact that it's not bone dry like some of the cheaper dry foods. It reminds me of some of the premium brands in its color, texture, and....this is a bit gross, but the compactness & darker color of what came out of the dogs after they started eating it...!
I like it, the dogs are eating it and doing well on it. I will definitely be buying it as their regular dog food from now on. The price is probably better than the other store premium brands because there is no advertising.

I had to switch my dog's food after the price on their previous food doubled. After doing some research and talking to our vet I bought this brand. One of our dogs has wire hair, so I was suprised after awhile when I noticed his coat was getting shiney and he feels soo soft. The other dog we have is part poodle and she even softer. This has been great dog food. We have been feeding our very stomach sensitive pooch this for over a year and notice an incredible difference. Not to be too descriptive, but the stomach gurgling and smells have totally ceased. We are no longer kicking our pooch out of the living room because we can't breath.My only concern is Amazon's packing on this product which often comes broken open and taped. I have responded several times regarding a change being needed. However with Amazon's customer satisfaction team they have always made the wrong righted very quickly if needed.

Another reviewer for a different raw, freeze dried dog food titled their commentary "Like crack for dogs". Well, honestly, I don't know much about crack, but it made me laugh just the same, because these treats/foods really do illicit an almost panicked, I'll do ANYTHING, gotta have it, response! Our terrier pup came to us on kibble, and was shockingly non food driven, which came as a real surprise to us, so we set ourselves to finding yummy foods/treats to tempt/train with.

I bought 24 of these bones and both my Jack's love them, but I found that they are cracking long sharp slivers of bone off and if they swallow these there will be a visit to the vet. So, I'm allowing them to clean the bones and when they start to crack them I'm tossing the bones in the garbage. I won't be ordering any bones from now on. I've done some research and found that it's best not to take the chance with any bones cooked, raw or smoked.Good Luck to all!
