My husband and I routinely give Redbarn knuckle bones to our dogs to enjoy (under our supervision). They absolutely love them! And knuckle bones are the only "cooked" bones that I feel are safe for our dogs. The concern with most cooked bones is that cooking them takes the moisture out and makes them brittle and more likely to splinter into sharp shards that can harm your dog. But cooked knuckle bones crumble as the dogs chew rather than splinter. And their larger size makes choking less of a concern. They are also long-lasting (anywhere from a week to a month for our Dachshunds and Bulldog) and help clean our dog's teeth while providing a natural source of protein and calcium. They can be messy until they are chewed "clean", so we keep our dogs outside, or confined to their crates until then. Once the dogs have "cleaned" their bones, we allow them to chew them outside of their crates in the house.
SAFETY AND CONSIDERATIONS: According to Dr. William Fortney with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, when giving your dog bones, whether animal, synthetic, or rawhide, you should consider if your dog is a chewer or a large chunk swallower. If it is the latter, don't give these items to your dog. Also, always supervise your dog with bones and throw them away if they splinter or when the pieces become small enough to pose a choking hazard.

I felt ripped off. The photo clearly shows two bones and the price, at $8 plus, is indicative of two. I thought I was purchasing a "bone" packaged as two to a pack. Walmart sells identical big smoked knuckle bones for $3.50 ea. Why doesn't the photo show one bone instead of two if they are just shipping one? It wasn't worth the hassle to return the package to make my point of protest so I am doing it here. BeartoothjoeBuy RedBarn Smoked Knuckle Bone Now
Put these bones in the freezer when you first get them and leave 'em in for a day or two! There must have been ant larvae in one of the bones, and when I took it out of the closet a month or two after they arrived and went to give to my dog it was CRAWLING with literally thousands of teeny tiny ants. It was really super gross. Usually putting them in the freezer kills any larvae but I neglected to do so and was thoroughly grossed out as a result. The bones themselves are excellent quality. They don't crack into large pieces like many of the knuckle bones do. These are a great product at a great price.Stinky, messy, high in fat, and gave my dog tummy troubles. But he LOVED the bone. Lasted about 30 minutes a day for a week or two.
