I use this in my cichlid tank. My local fish store closed so I had to find an online supplier, this item was packed nicely and arrived very quickly. If you are using this for the first time please read the instructions. You may have to add more then one application to bring your PH to 7, and you'll want to do it properly.

I found this product to be very helpful in maintaining my aquarium at7.0. Don't expect this to be a miracle cure that keeps your tank perfectly at7.0 forever. This is meant to be something that helps you to avoid sudden shifts in pH, maintain a relatively stable pH between tank changes, or helps to bring your pH back to 7.0 when something altered it.There really is no true way to keep an aquarium exactly at 7.0, and if the pH is changing rapidly that would be an indicator that there is something wrong with the overall water quality of the aquarium. Simply forcing the pH to remain at 7.0 doesn't mean water changes can be skipped or that overfeeding won't harm the water quality; all it really means is that the pH is within the ideal range of 7.0. I do bi-weekly water changes in my 40 gallon tank, and between changes I use this to maintain the pH at or around 7.0. My pH will drop to about 6.7 and this brings it back to 7.0, and then by the next water change it will be about 6.7 again until I change the water. This isn't meant to keep your tank at 7.0 forever, but it works great to help maintain a healthy aquarium.
If you find that this doesn't dissolve in the aquarium or it leaves the water cloudy you can dissolve it in water before putting it in the tank. I don't mind the cloudiness because when used in the recommended amounts it only stays cloudy for about 15-20 min as it dissipates into the water. I really don't see any reason why this would harm your filtration media when used properly. If anything the particles would get stopped in the filtration media which reduces the cloudiness as it continues to dissipate.

My husband told me to purchase the product for his fish tank because the PH level wasn't at the right level. Ever since he used it, He stopped complaining about the PH level. I guess it worked. :)Read Best Reviews of API Proper PH 7.0, 250gm Here
My water for my turtle and 40 gallon fish tank was rating at 8.0 tested with the API Master kit. So I got this and regretted it. It made my previously crystal clear water cloudy like it was a foggy London day. Before, my fish and turtles looked like they were flying in mid air. Now I can sort of see them in the back of my tank only 18 inches away. I tested the water a full day later and it brought the tank down only 2 points. Not even close to 7.0. Even if it eventually brings it to 7.0, it isn't worth if if it's cloudy. I have a Rena xp4, by the way, with chem zorb, matrix, and sponges. I went and bought a purigen pack even though I have a pack of chem zorb in my xp4 because it wasn't doing anything to clear up the cloud. The purigen made my water crystal clear in less then 12 hours. I've since bought 2 liters so I don't have to change it so often. My turtles and fish look like they're swimming in mid air.
By the way, I've read PH balance is a hyped up factor. The other water balance issues are more important. Fish will adjust to the PH balance. The range I've read is pretty big. As long as it doesn't fluctuate a lot. So far, my fish and turtles are active, have a good appetite, and are having a blast in the jet stream my xp4 makes in the tank. =)Does its job well. Just put in the recommended amount in a separate bucket, let it sit for at least 6 hours or so, then stir it up and you should be ready to add the water to your tank for water changes. I would not recommend putting this product directly into your tank, I haven't tried it, but I don't think it's a good idea.
