The bolster is great, washability is great. I'm not sure I would recommend velvet for the cover. It looks lovely until something furry lays in it, then it's like a fur magnet. Major drawback is that the thin little mat does little to cushion from a hard tile floor. My 80lb Greyhound has used this bed for nearly a year with the addition of a folded quilt under the included mat, until I made him a new bed from a twin sized memory foam mattress topper, folded it in half. If the pad that came with this bed had been a denser cushion, also with removable cover, I would not have looked for a better option. If your dog is all elbows and knees like a greyhound, you may need more substantial cushioning underneath.
**Update: I still have this bed, 5 years later. The fabric is tough and after washing still looks brand new. The thin mat (essentially a thick quilt) is not as much of a problem if the bed is on carpet, but with how puffy and nice the bolster part is, it is surprising that they would include such a flimsy mat. If I were to do it again, I'd get the Bowser Dutchie bed instead.

I don't review many things, but this one I felt compelled. In the past, I've had two german shepherds and now I have a 75lb 3-year old mutt who grew way too fast. We started with regular "x-large" dog beds, but by the time she was two, she looked like a giant on a tiny bed head and feet always flopping over the sides. This bed is HUGE! She fits comfortably, even large enough for her to bring her "friends" in and sleep with her. The height & firmness of the bolster is perfect for her big ol head and she loves being on her bed more than anything! She was in it before we could even get it out of the box, and we've easily trained her that that's home-base during meal times and when she gets her snack.
Last thing: the material. Easily washable, water resistant (so far the bolster doesn't smell and doesn't have drool stains on it) and doesn't pill! Every other dog bed I have looks bad after a few washings, but this thing comes out of the wash looking brand new every time. And because of the water-resistant nature of the fabric, it dries quickly (Important when you don't have replacement covers and your big lug is looking at you wondering where her bed is).
So, only two *slight* negatives...
1) the thin pillow that makes up the bottom doesn't have a removable cover. Thin enough to wash, but kind of a pain. Uses more water and energy to dry than a removable cover.
2) the bolster is a bit unwieldy to get back into the cover after washing. A second person helps. But it can be done with one. Just kind of hard to manage.
I'd buy this product again and again, every time I need a dog bed.I received the large donut bed earlier than anticipated. It's beautiful, well made & my dog absolutely loves it! I have a 95lb Doberman & the size is perfect for him. This bed is large enough for my two Westies to strech out in and I love the fact that it is easy wash and put back on...I have these beds all over the house and love them. They have made them even easier to wash and I couldn't be happier.
