I got my Maine Coon from a breeder.. when I told her I was feeding him these, she about snapped on me. Her words:

" Do not feed greenies! They contain bisulfite complex, which is synthetic Vit K. It is a carcinogen and causes kidney & liver problems. No upper end product uses it anymore. The FDA has banned it in human products. Do not feed anything with Menadione Sodium Bisulfite. They will often call it Mendadione, Mendadione Sodium, Bisulfite Complex or various combinations of the words. It was used because it was a cheap source of Vit K. "

I trust what she says, she's been in the business for almost as long as I've been alive and her cats include several champions.

I have a 10-month old Maine Coon who gets only very healthy canned foods with no wheat, no corn, no by-products and free feeds a variety of dry foods, same ingredient requirements. A sample of these was in a basket at the vet's office, so I picked one up. In spite of some of the less-than-health conscious ingredients, Dexter loves these things. I figure he eats healthy all the time, so a few of these is like us having the occasional dessert. He would give them 50 stars if he could.

I bought this product as a gift for the cats of a friend. I am told that Miss Daisy adores them and 'inhales them' is an accurate description of the way they are appreciated. So a triple win. I am happy, my friend is happy and most importantly the cats are happy. And I mourn that succulent beef is not available here in Australia for my cats.
