Amazing and disgusting that the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB would put their name of dog treats made in CHINA. China is known for tainted pet food and baby foods for that matter !

This is imported of China. Due to ongoing quality control and safety issue I would not recommend them whatsoever. Its nice to save a few bucks but not at my dogs expense. Would you eat chicken jerky from China? Google that if you said Yes. We bought another of AKC's line of treats for our rescue pup a little while back this was before we really knew very much about canine nutrition and I only just remembered to review them after seeing them at a local discount store (yes, that should say it all). Please excuse us if you read this same review on the chicken jerky product listing, but we feel the info is important enough to share here.To over-simplify things, there are three levels of treats you can feed your dog:
HUMAN-GRADE
These are treats made with ingredients that have passed the same tests that our food goes through. Though this won't guarantee that the treats are free from contaminants 100% of the time (even people food has issues now and then), human-grade treats are rarely recalled. Suggested treats would be Salmon Paws Salmon Jerky Treats, Newman's Own Turkey & Sweet Potato Treats, and Flint River Ranch treats (Google will lead the way).
DOG GRADE
These are treats that contain meat approved for canine consumption. Sometimes companies will still choose to put good meat in their treats (Zuke's for example), but more often than not you are getting the worst of the worst. Dead animals, diseased animals and even roadkill gets ground up for dog treats. I'm not even kidding. Risk of disease is elevated due to no regulations requiring diseased animals to be diagnosed before being used for dog treat meat. Some of the better treats would include Zuke's Mini Naturals and Natural Balance Turkey, Oatmeal and Cranberry Dog Treats.
CHINA GRADE
If you take a look at many of the reports of recalls, sickness and even death, a significant number of them originate from China. If you think our bottom-tier farms are bad, you ain't seen nothin' yet. I highly recommend NOT researching animal treatment in China unless you have a very strong stomach. ANYWAY, the meat is terrible, riddled with disease, and I would give my dogs the food off of my plate and go hungry before buying them a "Made in China" treat. I love my cheap Chinese electronics, but that's about it.
SO...
You might be asking yourself "why is the AMERICAN Kennel Club slapping their name on Chinese treats?" Sadly, the answer is easily guessed...PROFIT. Pure and simple. Listen, the world is getting smaller, outsourcing is not an inherently bad thing, but with jobs few and far between you would think that the AKC would keep things local, right? I'm not trying to start a political debate, but there are many US-based dog treat companies that are getting by just fine using US-sourced labor and ingredients, why can't the AKC do the same? Instead, they are putting the lives of dogs at risk nation-wide, and not only is that unforgivable, but I believe it gives a great deal of insight into the AKC as a whole.
Please avoid these. Your dog may have eaten these for years without getting sick, but is it really worth the gamble? For my wife and I, it certainly isn't. No company is totally exempt from recalls, but some seem to be trying their hardest to set themselves up for one.

"Since 2007, the FDA has become aware of increasing numbers of illnesses in pets associated with the consumption of jerky pet treats. The majority of complaints involve chicken jerky (treats, tenders, and strips), but others include duck, sweet potato, and treats where chicken or duck jerky is wrapped around dried fruits, sweet potatoes, or yams.
The FDA has received approximately 2,200 reports of pet illnesses which may be related to consumption of the jerky treats. The majority of the complaints involve dogs, but cats also have been affected. Over the past 18 months the reports have contained information on 360 canine deaths and one feline death. There does not appear to be a geographic pattern to the case reports. Cases have been reported from all 50 states and 6 Canadian provinces in the past 18 months."These treats are made in China! Please be advised that these treats are under FDA investigation as they are suspected of sickening dogs...including the death of many of them. Thank you.

It's not the first time I bought these treats our dog loves them. The only treat she runs away from us with she can't believe that anybody can give it to her and not to change their minds later.
