Guardian Gear Polyester Dog Back Pack, Medium, Green

This is a well designed dog back pack and is exactly what I needed for daily walking and light hiking with my 50 lb. Sheltie. With a chest girth of 28" he is at the top limit for the large pack, but it fits him well. The two belly straps and one chest strap do not interfere with his leg movement. The liner is breathable mesh and is open under the handy grab handle which allows for more ventilation, important for my long haired and double coated dog. The medium fits chests 15"-25", pack is 7"x5"x2".(please note the small size of the pack). The large fit's chests 22"-28", pack is 10.5"x8"x3". The large pack will hold 2-16oz water bottles in each large compartment(one large compartment on each side). There is room for bags, treats and other small items in the small compartments but that is the limit for this pack. The picture used in the product description is of the large pack for both medium and large sizes, don't let the medium size picture fool you as it did me.

I've got a year and a half old yellow lab weighing about 47 lbs who loves walking in the woods and playing in the snow, and I've been getting tired of my pockets being full of his stuff while all he does is run around chasing squirrels. So for Christmas he got this back pack and now he can carry his own water, treats and poop bags. The left side pouch is the biggest one, and he can carry a small bottle of water and his collapsible water bowl, The right side has a smaller pouch that zips closed and an outer mesh pouch with a draw string, so I'll put his collapsible food bowl in the inner pouch and any poop bags in the mesh pouch. I do have to balance the load to keep the backpack from sliding in one direction or the other, but I have the straps tightened just enough to mostly keep it in place and every time he shakes it rightens itself out.

The straps that go around the body have cushioned pad sleeves to provide comfort for the dog, but it was a real pain getting the loose end of the strap threaded back through the sleeve to keep them from dragging on the ground. And while my dog loves wearing the pack, he still hasn't gotten used to the added width when he tries getting close to a tree to water it. But in addition to him now carrying his own weight, this pack gives me better control over him because I'm pulling on his chest instead of his neck. Plus there's a handle on the top of the harness that allows me to literally pick him up like a suitcase (has come in handy a couple times).

I looked at another pack before I settled on this one, because the other one looked like it covered the dogs hindquarters too much, and both me and my dog are completely happy with this choice.

Update 6 Feb: I've dropped my rating to 3 stars because after a little over a month it's coming apart. The mesh pouch on the right side has a hole worn through it from jumping through marsh grass, so that compartment is unusable. And the "D" ring on the top has pulled out the stiching separating it from the traffic handle, so instead of anchoring the leash between the dog's shoulders it now pulls to the back of the handle. I can find someone to re-stitch the D-ring, but I can't really repair the mesh pouch.

I still like the look and design, just not the strength of construction.

I bought this to give my 7-month old Dobbie puppy something to do on our daily walks. It seems to fit nicely. Has a good handle for lifting off. Seems to be well made and the reflector lines are a good addition as we walk in the wee hours of the morning. I wanted to add weight for him to carry but the pouches will only hold about one can of food on each side. I did end up buying a 2nd doggie back-pack with larger pockets to be able to carry his own water (and mine) eventually.

I bought this for my 57lb dog. It fits him very nicely and it has a good amount of play in the front strap and the 2 stomach straps to compensate for differences in dog shapes and sizes. The orange trim looks much nicer than I thought it would. When I read that it was green and orange I was a little worried about how it would look, but even with the three different colors (black mesh, orange trim and green bags) it looks nice. The inside of each pouch is large enough to hold two regular sized bottles of water. One pouch also has two pockets which conveniently fit a cell phone and the other pouch has a small zippered pocket for placing other items in.

We bought this back pack to use while walking our 1 1/2 year old english springer spaniel. We fill it with a little weight, so it tires him out more, as a regular walk (even a 2 hour hike) will not tire him out a whole lot. This works great. It gives him more of a work out, and it seems to settle him down more, it also gives him a "job" to do which is great for hyper/working dogs. This is nice and comfortable for the dog, the harness is made of a mesh like material that has a little stretch, and the packs on the sides are made of a water resistant nylon fabric. He has no problems wearing it. There is a hook on it to attach a leash but we use a pinch collar for now, as he is a terrible walker with out it, and we are trying to wean him off that to a regular collar.
