I have two adult male beagles and have tried quite a few "boutique" level dog foods from Innova and Orijen over the past couple of years since they seem to be perennial favorites. I monitored my dogs closely from their stools to their coat and immediate response after eating. I found the Innova lines to make them lick their chops for about 10 minutes after each meal (likely due to the very high protein levels). They also gained a little bit of weight so I had to cut down their intake (to what seemed like almost nothing). This food, as I understand, is better suited for high-energy/activity dogs.
The original Orijen was better, but the fish-based proteins and Omega 3s ranked high for me, so I ended up switching to the 6 Fish. They've been enjoying it for a little over a year and the popularity has grown so much that at one point this year, it was almost impossible to find. It has also received a few awards this past year. The 29.7 lb bag lasts the two about 2 months.
In short, Orijen 6 Fish has drastically improved the coat, stool, energy level, and overall health of my two beagles compared to any store bought brands.

Our almost 6 year old golden retriever has been plagued with itchy dry skin and loose stools all his life and we have tried many high quality dog foods to no avail. Finally we found Orijen fish formula and he is doing great!!!! Looks beautiful, not licking and biting his paws and skin any more and his stools are perfect. And he loves the food!!! Just wish it were easier to find in the larger size bags.Buy Orijen 6 Fish 80/20 - 5.5 lb Now
I have a 3 yr old Domestic Short Hair who developed Struvite Crystals and had to spend 3 days at the vet. Luckily I caught the problem on time, rushed him to the vet, and all is well with him now. The vet said that he would need to be on a special diet for the rest of his life and that he could only eat Hill's Prescription c/d. I didn't think anything of it and followed the vets orders. A few months later, one of my dogs developed a few allergy. After doing research online and speaking with a Pet Nutritionist, just because a vet recommends prescription food, doesn't mean it is "quality" food. I looked at the bag of Hill's c/d cat food, sure enough the first 4 ingredients are: Brewers Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Chicken By-Product Meal, Pork Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid). Corn Gluten? Chicken by-products? Big no-no's!! I quickly start researching other foods, and by suggestion, I tried a bag of the Orijen 6-Fish. My cat absolutely loves it! His coat is so soft and shiny, and he seems to have a much better temperment (but he is still quite the terror no help for that one). HOWEVER this food absolutely stinks! It is gosh-awful, terrible! I can't sit anywhere around the cat bowl for longer then 5 minutes let alone eat dinner nearby. I hate to even open the canister I have it stored in, to serve him more. I had about zip lock bags worth left and I just couldn't take it anymore. I packed it up and gave it to a colleague to feed his cat (he said it smells like manure). Don't get me wrong, it is great quality cat food, but I personally cannot stand the smell. If you can deal with the smell of literally 6-(dead)Fish, then I would recommend this food or maybe try the Regional Poultry and Fish instead. I however have changed brands all together, only because of the fact that I found another brand that has no magnesium or ash.Read Best Reviews of Orijen 6 Fish 80/20 - 5.5 lb Here
This food is not the best food for every dog. I had my dog on 6 fish for about 8 months and during that time her creatinine levels were very high. As soon as I took her off the food, her creatinine levels went back to normal. I'm sure this product is fine, my dog is just incredibly picky. Received quickly and in good condition.
