I have three of these Store-N-Feed units and we just love them for our Greyhounds. I've NEVER had water or moisture get inside where the kibble is stored. The units are perfect for traveling too. The weight of the kibble keeps them from moving around. Yes, moisture can get under the stainless steel bowls and, if there is a bit of kibble there, it can get icky, but it's easy to clean and this shouldn't be a problem for most people. I recommend these units without reservation.

Bought this for my American Eskimo. He's about 17 18 inches tall from floor to his shoulder. I use the feeder at the 12 inch height. It's a good height for him. He's not the biggest eater, and would often leave a lot of his food in the bowl. I've had this feeder for about two weeks now, and I have noticed that he finishes all his food right away. No more leaving food until it is dry and yucky. I don't know if this is because he likes using the raised bowls better than the bowls on the floor (or it is something else), but I am happy that he is finishing his meals.

I decided to buy a raised feeder because I read that it can aid with digestion. My dog often has diahhrea. He is on special food for a sensitive stomache; he gets antibiotics when he needs them; I try not to let him eat grass, etc. but still he gets diahhrea, seemingly without explanation. I read that raised bowls help digestion, so I decided to give this a try. I don't expect this to be a cure, but I figured it could at least be one more thing in his favor.

When I started shopping around, I really wanted to buy one of the pretty wrought-iron raised feeders with ceramic bowls. There are some really beautiful feeders out there, and I was willing to pay the extra money. However, after fiddling with different options in the pet store and on-line, I finally opted for the our pets store-n-feed. It is not as decorative as some of the other feeders on the market, but it is the most practical, and I am very happy with my purchase. I use the bottom storage compartment for items that I don't use everyday, but would take up space in my kitchen cabinets, such as extra canned food. The stainless steel bowls are light and can go in the dishwasher, and I don't need to worry about the chipping or breakage that would happen if they were ceramic.

I had not intended to use the self-watering system, because I work from home and I change his water-bowl frequently throughout the day -but once I tried it, I realized what a handy bonus this is! Now, I am assured that he will have fresh water throughout the day, without my needing to change it. I just change the water in the morning, affix the bottle, and he is set all day long. The manufacturer suggests using a 2-liter bottle, but I have found that a 1-liter works just as well. And I think my dog likes to see the bubbles as he drinks! Also, since I am using the self-watering system, I now actually have two bowls to use for his food which means that he can be eating out of one bowl, while the other is in the dishwasher. The self-watering system has been an unexpected plus.

This feeder is much less expensive than others, and yet offers so much more: practicality, convenience, durability. I'm so glad I didn't get swayed by the prettier feeders - And, know what? it actually looks just fine in my kitchen. Wish I bought this sooner.

The dog likes thishe no longer has to stoop as low. We love itgreat storage, looks less cluttered than the old bowls did, it's easy to just scoop food out of the base with the bowl. Travelling just involves picking up the whole thing and carrying to the car. We're very happy purchasers!

As for the review complaining about moldy foodI honestly don't see how this could happen without you noticing. We remove the water and food bowls daily to fill themthe water bowl to take it to the sink, and the food bowl to scoop kibble out of the base. They nest into separate depressions in the top of the lidso the food below is sealed off.

There IS an extra channel for water spillage (and I assume, evaporation) on one side and not on the other, so as long as you place the water bowl on the side with the extra channel, and clean out the dog bowls on a regular basis, I can't forsee any problems.

I think this was worth every penny. We go camping and this is a great way to take enough food for the trip. I like that it gets higher as the dog grows, right now ours is a puppy and will grow to about 80-90 pounds, raising the food bowl to prevent bloat, stomach twisting is great. I haven't had any problems with the bowls rusting.

I got this for the adjustable height and the more controlled bowl location. The storage was not on my mind until after I got it home and realized it would benefit the unit for stability. My only real issue is that you have to remove the bowls to access the food. That's fine if you feed when the water needs changing, but otherwise you have to move both bowls to get to the stored food. Could be messy, or at least inconvenient. Worse if you're using the bottle feeder, which works great, but again is sort of in the way for removing the top and getting to the food. The only other issue with the food storage is having to stoop over for it. Some people may find bending down to do this a bit difficult depending on their physical abilities. It is a decent thought and definitely cleaner and more controlled than having two separate bowls on the floor which move around when the dogs feel like watching me clean up water. So far this has been very stable and it looks much easier for the fellas.

Pros:

Good height for medium and large dogs

Decent stability, increased if used for food storage

Bottle self-water feature nifty

Easy to clean and maintain

Cons:

Have to remove bowls to get to food if using the storage feature

Bowls are well seated in their spots, could spill water putting the bowl back in (small issue). Easily fixed if they added finger holes on either side.

Top can be very difficult to fit back over the bottom once you slide it off. This depends on how it was stored at the pet store. The top did not want to easily fit back over and slide down onto the base.

Design:

Plastic with stainless steel bowls

Fairly generic. Could be a downside for some people as they are not the prettiest things on the shelf. Could use some texture or alternate colors to liven up the matching
