After antibiotics treatment, our cat developed a chronic diarrhea lasting almost one year. The vet prescribed some anti parasites treatments and the dry food was changed to a low residue diet with no effect. Upon my insistence, a comprehensive stool analysis was performed. Results were negative. A cat internist was consulted and he suggested the use of FortiFlora. The results have been outstanding. After approx 3 weeks stool was solid. FortiFlora was given for 2 additional months. Now our cat is doing very well. Interestingly, he loves the product and licks the remaining FortiFlora dust in his food bowl. I asked the manufacturer (Nestle) for how long FortiFlora could be given to cats. The answer: no limits, basically for the entire life of the cat. Prudently, we stopped giving FortiFlora to our cat after 2 months. I have a theory: The antibiotics wiped out the intestinal flora of our cat and some adverse bacterial strains took over. No balance with beneficial bacteria could be established by giving to our cat dry (sterilized) food. Hence the necessity to introduce in his digestive system beneficial bacteria. I just presented facts and a theory. I did not receive any incentive whatsoever by anybody to promote FortiFlora. I simply wish this information can be of benefit to other beloved cats.

My 20 1/2 year old cat began to have the smell of death. It was not pleasant. My husband said her stomach was rotting. Now I understand why some old people smell bad. OxyFresh helped in the last couple of years with her bad breath, but I had no idea it went deeper than that. The bad bacteria had to be counteracted with good bacteria inside her. My husband bought FortiFlora and within a short time, the bad smell was gone and her health improved tremendously. She is back on track, can jump again, and her coat has returned to being shiny and fluffy. Thanks Purina, you saved Tammy's life and my other two cats don't sputter at her anymore. We're buying the canine version for our 11 year old standard poodle. We both believe pro-biotics are a must from time to time and definitely in old age.

This was recommended to help my cat with chronic diarrhea, and within a couple days there was improvement. Of course, the right food is also important, but this product helped right away, and continued to normalize.

Adopted two kittens within days of each other. The 2nd kitten was stressed from a few days in a kennel prior to coming to us, and his stools were loose. Soon they both had very loose stools. A friend recommended this product. Within 48 hours they were better, but I used it another day or two to be on the safe side. I used 1/4 packet per kitten per feeding. I noted that the kittens were otherwise extremely playful and energetic and had excellent appetites, so I felt this was just upset stomachs and not something more serious.

I have two cats, a skinny 4-year old with inflammatory bowel disease and a chunky but healthy 2-year old. I originially got this hoping my sick cat would like the flavor and that he'd eat more, and that maybe he'd stop having such loose stools (he's on prednisolone and leukeran). He loved the flavor, but after devouring nearly a whole packet mixed with wet food he started looking nauseated and burping/hurking a little. I'm guessing that the "animal digest" ingredient has mixed proteins. He loves fish but absolutely cannot tolerate it in his diet as it makes him vomit. To be on the safe side I won't be giving this to him any more. With an otherwise healthy cat I might just decrease the initial dose, but with him it's not worth it.

The other cat, interestingly, would not eat the food I mixed the Fortiflora with. So I guess not all cats love the flavor. :)

For the IBD kitty, I'm going to go back to the capsules of probiotic I got from the vet (Vetri-Mega, I think it's called) along with the Fresh Digest enzyme blend I got at the pet store, both of which he's been consuming for a week with no obvious issues. To make food more appetizing, I have ordered powdered chicken liver from a cat breeder who also sells powdered mixes to supplement raw food diets. My sick cat appears to tolerate chicken, and many cats like the flavor of liver. The medications do seem to be helping his appetite, though.
