I love these and have 6 on hand at all times for my 3 little dogs--I own 6 rather than 3 because they love them as well, and often hide them in places I cannot find them.
Try inserting a sliver of cheese and half a small milkbone or other treat--your canine companion will play happily with it for as long as it takes to get the cheese, which obviously will vary widely, dog to dog. My guys are all Bichons, yet each has their own theory on how best to tackle their Petstages Occupi Treat Dog Toy, Medium. Each one takes a different amount of time to solve the puzzle.
You can also freeze these in hot weather with a bit of peanut butter and a treat inside, or stuff them with canned dog food and freeze.

I have a maltese and a poodle mix. Besides placing a bone-shaped treat into the largest opening, I found my own way to stuff with treats: placing small cubes of freeze-dried beef liver treats deep into the tube and stuffing small bits of Pupperoni into the small side holes. The Pupperoni treats are an easy goal, but the liver cubes are harder because they have to either chew the toy to push/crush the cubes out or lick the cubes out. Both ways give my dogs some exercise and fun. It may last about 15-30 min depending how wedged the cubes are.The only CON are this toy is that it can be very small to clean. I have the small size toy (for toy breeds). Medium size may be too large and heavy for toy breeds, but they're probably easier to clean.

This was a great idea only IF YOU have a dog that doesn't chew as if it's a professional sport.. if you do have a high end chewer don't get this. I found this toy at Petco on clearance for a dollar or so and decided to give it a try. I read its description and it mentioned being able to utilize several treats to keep a dog's attention. I thought I'd try to see if it would hold my existing dog food that I get from Costco in the maroon package by Kirkland and it was a perfect fit!I filled all the little holes with Kirkland dog food and later filled the inner chamber with dog food first, and then plugged the holes with the same food, causing pressure to be exerted on the inner chamber of food disallowing it from falling out.
My dog was very happy! He is a Chihuahua and an aggressive chewer. He has torn up other toys, and I have been reassured by pet specialists that this is normal behavior; but other than a small tear, this toy has held up.
I am not currently sure where this toy is, last I saw it was by the couch, but when it was actively used, I would have to refill it once or twice a day. I no longer have any of the Kirkland food that fits this toy, otherwise I'd find it and put it back in use.
I have been told that dogs like to test their toys for weaknesses and exploit them; thus being a good idea to not leave them with the same set of toys for long periods of time. Rotate the toys to keep dogs occupied and keep toys intact. I suppose if my dog could use a computer, he'd make an excellent brute-force hacker.
